I'm not advocating the sack of Doya - Amoah

Accra, March 9, GNA - Mr. O. B. Amoah, a Deputy Minster of Education and Sports on Friday dispelled rumours that he was advocating the sack of Coach Ratomir Djukovic, helmsman of the Black Stars.

He told the GNA Sports that what he suggested during a radio interview in Kumasi on Independence Day was that the technical team ought to be beefed-up and the GFA should act quickly if they were no longer interested in the services of the coach.

The Kumasi fans were angry about the continual stay in office of the coach during a phone-in segment saying, he had demonstrated that he lacked the wherewithal to succeed at the summer World Cup. But the deputy minister called for caution in handling the problem, citing the instability in the Togo national team where players are divided over coaches Stephen Keshie and Otto Pfister.

He, however, said it was not out of place for a soccer fan to complain, "because after all the coach is being paid with the tax payers' money". He called for calm and asked them to take a cue from what was happening in neighbouring Togo.

GFA officials, currently attending a workshop in Germany are expected to meet with officials from the ministry this weekend to discuss the way forward.

Mr Amoah said in order not to pre-empt the outcome of the meeting, "I will rather prefer to leave the final decision at the door steps of the GFA because it falls under its ambit."
