The Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development is in partnership with Wembley Sports Construction Limited to upgrade the Zurak Park at Madina, Accra, into a modern sports facility.

The park, when completed, would have an artificial pitch, changing rooms, washrooms and floodlights.

Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, Minister of inner City and Zongo Development, disclosed this at a sod-cutting cweremony to signify the commencement of work.

He said the project marked the “beginning of the creation of a united and inclusive society, where what could be found in an elite community had been brought to the doorstep of the people of Madina’’.

Alhaji Saddique, who is also the Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency said the project, which is currently being piloted in various communities across the country, would be extended to other Zongo communities.

‘’It is worth mentioning that this sports project is being executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and more of such would be built across the country this year’’, he said.

Alhaji Saddique expressed the hope that the facility, when completed, would help develop the necessary talents, foster unity among the people and help improve the economy of the community.

He commended Alhaji Zurak, a businessman for protecting the park from encroachment.

Nii Kotey Dzor I, La Nkwantanang-Madina Mantse, appealed to the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development to extend the development to all communities.

He urged the people of the community to unite and fight for a common goal.
