Andre Ayew in Ghana to seek herbal treatment

Swansea City winger Andre Ayew was in his native country of Ghana this week while the Black Stars engaged Canada in an international friendly as he sought traditional herbal treatment for his sour knee problem in the West African country.

The Swansea star pulled out of the Ghana squad for Tuesday’s friendly over an unspecified injury but his presence in the West African country raised eyebrows whether he snubbed the Black Stars.

Ayew was spotted in several locations in Ghana’s capital, Accra during the week which sparked the suspicion.

However, insiders close to the player say he arrived in the country to seek herbal treatment to minimise the intermittent pain in the knee when he plays.

The 25-year-old secured permission from his Welsh club to make a quick trip to Ghana despite being declared unfit to join the Black Stars for the friendly match against Canada in Washington which ended 1-1.

Ayew is suspected to have returned to his UK-base following the end the international break.

He is expected to be fit to play for Swansea on Monday night against Stoke City.

The former Olympique Marseille man has hit the ground running since moving to England to join Swansea in the summer.

He has scored four goals in eight Premier League matches for the Swans.
