admissions to the colleges of nursing should be matched with estimated needs of nurses needed by the country with an additional 10% for those who may practice outside the country or change their profession

The ministries have no business training/bonding anybody in basic professional training (in health institutions of all categories, teacher training colleges, agric training colleges, etc). All these institutions should be handed over to the Universities and Polytechnics, so they would train and award them University certificates, diplomas and degrees, just like for doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, scientists, etc). After completion, the relevant professions bodies can organise internship/horsemanship/apprenticeship for them. After their registration, they release them into the open market (government or private) to look for jobs. I am sick of this "Government is refusing to post us" business from ministries' trained products. Does the government post graduates of mathematics, physics, archaeology, geography?
Unfortunately there are some politicians and their surrogates in the ministries (esp. health and education) who see these training institutions as their political and financial world banks or source of influence and power. various governments have sat down and allowed this rot go on for a long time, establishing schools all over the place for political points. Now it is chocking the government. Of course, if you bond them, then you have "employed" them until the bond expires and you are obliged to post them
Starting with MoH, this issue will move to MoE and MoFA, and on and on. Hand over these schools to the Universities and Polytechnics now and we will not hear of this again!

Most of us don't have any idea about what is going on, maybe even our governance. If you allow them to seek jobs any were including outside by themselves. When you get to our hospitals and they are not many to attend to the many sick at the same time..try telling them what you are saying here..and explain to your relative who is dying that this is what you suggested to the government..Can't we understand that the nurse patient ratio is still low and bad despite the increase admissions and facilities. You don't have, yet you want to dispatch to other places..God help Ghana
