Dear Folks,
Our dear Hon. Mininster, Otiko Afisa Djaba, has made some excellent observations and/or comments. Yes, certain styles of dressing may make people look "fashionable" (if only they are in the business of fashion), but would equally make them vulnerable to some "bad" elements in society. That is no deniable fact!
Equally, there are some so-called "fashionable" hairstyle or hairdo (also a form of dressing) that MUST NOT be worn or encouraged in societies - especially in societies like Ghana. How can Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba claim to be a "role model" to/for the very vulnerable girls she is advising?
There would have been nothing wrong, possibly, with the Hon. Minister's hairstyle if she wasn't a Minister of State. What would society feel and say if our Presidents, Vice Presidents, Ministers of State, MPs, Reverend Ministers, etc., etc wore hairstyles like "MOHAWK" and the likes of it?
If our Hon. Minister can't be advised or would not take advice to change her hairstyle, for the sake or benefit of society (because she is a Minister of State and expected to be an excellent role model) then what authority or moral justification does she have to comment or advise on indecent dressing (i.e., very short and revealing dresses worn by the youth, especially the girls).
Such a comment should not been seen as gender-bias. I also notice that, these days, people are NOT taking pieces of advice along such lines because the people offering the pieces of advice are themselves not good role models and possibly not worth listening to. Yes, people have to take responsibility for their actions or inaction, but for heaven's sake, we can expect people in responsible and respectable positions to dress without decorum or following some dressing code. How come, to date, decent people and societies have not accepted and embraced the dressing called "Ottofista" or "your pants are falling?"
Please, let's keep advising ourselves, especially our lovely Hon. Minister Otiko Afisa Djaba to see the need to change her hairstyle, for the benefit of the very vulnerable in the Ghanaian society (at least) that she is trying to reach out to. If she would not change her hairstyle, then I suggest she moves into fashion and design ministry - certainly NOT in her current ministry. May be she would be okay in Tourism!

Ok. Short dresses causes rape, tight dresses causes rape, big bottocks causes rape, big boobs causes rape, small waist causes rape basically being a girl causes rape.
No madam pls your statement is very wrong. what causes rape is irresponsible men who have no fear or respect for females are unable to control their urges.
Dressing in a particular way can INCREASE your chances of being approached attacked or cat calls. But it is never the cause of rape.
If you want to address the causes of rape especially with the position you hold pls do it professionally and thoroughly instead of picking a little piece of the puzzle and running with that.

This is a most unfortunate statement.
Nothing can justify the defilement and rape of young girls and women - and the minister must not give the impression that somehow a young female's dress sense can justify an assault on her dignity and violation of her body by brutes who lack discipline and self-respect.
We must allow females to dress as they wish. Period.
Above all, Ghanaian society must make it absolutely clear to all foolish and irresponsible men, that females in short dresses are not asking to be defiled or raped - and that if they violate the bodies of women in this country they will always be prosecuted and jailed. Full stop. Haaba.

In a whiteman land when you say something stupid like that telling girls their dresses attract rapists you are in trouble and as a politician that is the end of your political career but in Ghana we have a minister who supposed to protect women but instead she is supporting rapists.
We said this from the beginning that that woman is not fit to be a minister especially that ministry but NPP supporters will not listen and here we are hearing the most outrageous comment even a lunatic will not make about women.
NPP was telling us they have the men and women but they could not get any woman to appoint to head that ministry but Otiko Djaba who is not cultured, who is backward as minister.
I hope all women will take to the street to demand her resignation, she is unfit to be a minister.

OTIKO UR HAIR ATTACT RAPE
This is a debunked position. This is unfortunate coming from a female minister w/ responsibility for protecting women and children. She needs to go for a course on sexual assault.
If a girl is raped it is not her fault whether she was naked or covered in a veil. There's no excuse for rape. What kind of leaders do we have in ghana???. They are so low IQ. How can you tell little girls they're responsibl ...

Please will the reporter address our dear minister as "her" and not him. 2nd paragraph....according to him refers. It might be a typo but I guess sometimes a little proof reading will help. Thanks
Ignorant minister, what someone wears should not be an invitation to a rapist. Tackle the rape-culture not the victims, you don't empower women by always telling them to play defense.
Madam your hair is edgy ...be yourself. Thanks for advising like a mother should do
Stupid women. What about bad hair style?
There is no dress that justified rape so anyone engage in rapping must be punished. However, schools and all other institutions must be allowed to have a premises dress code for their students and or recipients. Appropriate ...

This is the most stupid comment a Minister and a woman to make! You are brainless! I wonder the merits of your position!
Dont copy the hairstyle of the Minister as well. If you have nice looks like her, such hairstyle can also attract rape!
Generally there should be no excuse for rape. Lets deal ruthlessly with such sick people!
