But as usual in Ghana: "Not my fault"

It is most tragic when an event supposed to be peaceful and entertaining suddenly turns out to be so fatal.
We cannot foretell most natural disasters but modern technology and sheer diligence of those responsible in keeping cites for such events safe often help to avert the worst as in this case. I presume there wasn't much of any security assessment and monitoring going in the area and at the Falls, in particular. If there was, the area could have been found to be hazardous after the heavy downpour and closed to visitors until conditions ameliorate.
We have the attitude of copying blindly, jumping to adopt foreign practices without ensuring structures and guidelines are in place to dutifully engage in the activities associated with them. And in this case, as may be in other tourist cites in Ghana, all we seem to be focusing on is getting the number of tourists grow without doing any impact assessment of such increased visits or making sure the area is secure.
Active Weather monitoring, environmental assessment and traveling conditions are all factors that ought to be seriously considered in promoting our tourist industry.
My heart goes out to the victims families. And I hope the Government would do its due diligence to ensure such a calamity does not happen again.
Our Governments have foolishly kept the same routine of playing "Monday Quarter-backing" with Road Accidents, too. That is, they have failed to implement the necessary measures to keep our Roads safe, and we keep having many horrible vehicular accidents, only to have the Governments come out after the fact to express their sorrow to the victims.
Long Live Ghana!!!

we need a strong team of park rangers who know the ins and outs of these places and can determine how safe these tourist attractions are. so sad!

Storms, unfortunately, cause disasters all over the world, like the floods and landslides in Peru or the dump slide in Ethiopia, and Ghana is no exception so can we stop the spiritual imputations and find proper scientific solutions to prevent the avoidable ones in the future. For example, if we had proper scientific weather forecasts in Ghana, could we have predicted this storm in the Kintampo area in advance to prevent this school excursion trip to the area which resulted in this preventable tragedy instead of talking about vague prophetic predictions? Can our chosen leaders start leading this nation properly into the 21st century? We can pray when we can for God's help but even the scriptures also talk about God helping those who help themselves!
