In the early 1990s, I was arguing on Okyeame and trying to point to people like Prof. George Ayittey what Nyebro quoted, pasted below. My refrain then was: they said the Chinese were coming and Africa shall be the grass on which the two elephants of the West and East fight on. What shall we do to avert that? People then thought I was joking. They all know better now, and it's only beginning. Galamsey alone is not a laughing matter.

That's why I respond with derision when I hear or read leaders of the NPP and NDC mouthing the empty SLOGAN of the "private sector is the engine of growth" and how they shall support it. They are just ignorant fools who haven't read much. Bawumia simply falls in that category.

I wonder if there is a change in ideological direction. Maybe they've seen that the phrase doesn't sound well in a poor country with such huge income disparities and property being created through dishonest means with the political elite involved.

Perhaps Akufo-Addo never really bit into this property owning democracy thing. His bombastic pre-election promises involve so much state intervention that flies in the face of a property owning ideology.

But your piece is about Bawumia's blanket recommendation of copying Rwanda. He conveniently sidestepped the ugly side of Rwanda's success story. I don't know if it is out of ignorance or he thinks he can deceive all of us. Well, he can't deceive you. But Bawumia's "cleverness" has been over-rated. I don't know what kind of convictions he has himself but he comes out just echoing decisions that were made elsewhere and above his head. The guy is no natural politician. I wonder if they listen to him - "they", the real owners of the party whose errand boy he has become...

You willed yourself to give the most corrupt party ever eight years to plunder, maraud and pillage our nation with barely a sneeze. NDC turned our nation into a beggar nation globetrotting with a cup in hand shamelessly begging for alms which when they got disappeared into private accounts and Ammissah Arthur and Terkper sat there like zombies and did nothing to bring the culprits to book. Two supposedly financial wizards who couldn't even spell the word "economy" let alone understand what it meant. Those two clowns couldn't even learn from other sister countries with bustling economies what is making their economy tick.
The 'trial and failed us big time so I don't the grounds for your beef with Bawumia praising a sister nation's economy and saying it's worth emulating other than you grandstanding as usual.

In society couples that stay longer with each other have the best of families or have a lager size of family. People who hit and run may by chance have a child or two and not the best of children.
Looking at the level of socioeconomic development of Britain, Japan, Germany, U.S. and some Western European nations before the second world war you will notice that the China, Cuba, India, USSR, North and South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and even Ghana that emerged after the second world war and all had long serving presidents did better in socioeconomic terms than the advance capitalist countries after the second world war.
