Advantages of Tax Cuts:
What the benefits and the negative effects of reducing all taxes?

The idea of cutting all taxes is key element of libertarian politics. Cutting taxes is often a mantra repeated by conservative parties, although in practice, they usually find it more difficult to cut taxes than their rhetoric would suggest.

Firstly Cutting all taxes has an opportunity cost it requires either:

Cutting Government Spending

Increasing Government Borrowing

Of the two, cutting government spending, is the only policy which is sustainable in the long term.
Benefits of Tax Cuts

Government inefficient. It is argued the private sector is more efficient in spending money than the public sector. Government spending tends to be wasted, with high bureaucracy costs.

Lower taxes can increase incentives to work. It is argued lower income taxes will encourage people to work longer hours and new people to enter the labour force. Lower corporation tax will encourage firms to invest in the country.

Laffer Curve. It is even argued that cutting taxes can even increase government revenue. This is because if taxes are too high people don't work, so don't pay taxes. However, if people do work more, the government can actually gain more revenue.
Problems of Tax Cuts
Difficult to Cut Spending. The main problem that governments have faced when in power, is that cutting spending is actually very difficult. When you are in opposition it is very easy to say that their are too many 'benefit seekers'. It is easy to say, the government spend too much money. But, when you actually try to significantly cut spending it proves much more difficult because it will annoy some group.

Increased Inequality. Cutting taxes can also lead to the danger of increasing inequality because a lot of government spending is targeted to lower income groups. It also depends on the type of tax cuts.

Cutting Taxes rarely increases incentives. The Reagan administration hoped cutting income tax would stimulate supply side improvements, in practice it caused an increase in government borrowing. If you cut income tax, people don't necessarily work more (there are 2 effects: the income and substitution effect at work)

Taxes can be used to discourage spending of demerit goods. E.g. taxes on alcohol and cigarettes can be useful for discouraging their consumption.

Lower Taxes can lead to higher cost elsewhere. Generally, the US has a lower tax burden than the Europe. However, although Americans have lower taxes they have to pay for private health care insurance. However, they are also paying a profit margin to private companies. The Americans spend more on health care than any other nation, but, they have still patchy coverage. I would suggest that America should increase taxes and pay for health care from government spending - it would be more efficient and equitable.

It's not about ambitions but sustainable policies. There is already an apparent reduction in numbers for student trainee Nurses and teachers. Shall we get more schools and health facilities? Nkrumah's had more lofty ideas but was thrown out. Ghanaians are getting wiser by the day and they will judge all government actions. No amount of self praise will keep one party in power for ever. Ghana is a third world country and no lies will change that in four years. Government must make the cedi stable now or we travellers, traders are already feeling the heat.

The nation will definately crush economically if we don't expand export to cover these taxes Npp is cutting or abolishing.

The smart way of doing this is to expand first your our exports whiles taxes are gradually going down. How can you use GHS400 million free SHS ? That money is half of what they need to implement this concept successfully. I don't know if know the current situation of the country and what this budget means to us now and the future.

No one is against free free regime but think beyond the box because prices oil, cocoa, gold etc are not stable at the international market and this budget is basing on our export sales income which is not guaranteed.

He was in the previous NPP government, he was around when NDC was in power and saw what was going on. He did his home work well that was why he hit the ground running, and has not stopped. He may not be able to fulfill all the promises, due to unforeseen circumstances, but he will definitely not go the way of the NDC. Dr. Nkrumah started the fee free education in Ghana, and people from the Northern Region of Ghana are still enjoying it. With our natural and human resources we should be able to do more for Ghanaians in terms of provision of health, education, and infrastructural facilities. My heart bleeds when I see pregnant mothers lying on the floors of our hospitals, when school children go to school under trees, and politicians at the presidency will be riding in SUVs, comfortable saloon cars. So please MP wait and see if after 2 years you do not see any changes in the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian then you can start talking, and condemn the NPP party and the president. Remember, NDC left the tomb of the former president not cared for. It is this NPP government that is taking care of it. Your eyes were on the spoils of politics, Porsche cars. Thanks for the space. God bless Ghana, our motherland.

To broaden our export capacity the government has laid down a plan of action especially in the region of agriculture, albeit, food production. Perhaps you need to go over the budget statement and convince yourself that the economy is in good hands with no room to accommodate negativity. Oil was discovered in commercial quantities, brought to parliament but nay sayers shouted "kube anwaa." NHIS? "Oh it can't be done." Free SHS? "It's impossible." What is it with us(Ghanaians),pessimism must be eradicated from our minds for all the good things we'recommend witnessing and enjoying were started by somebody so it's about time we say yes we can.
All the promises Nana Addo and NPP have made are all good and if even they don't fulfill them all,they're morale booster and reassuring so rather than talking them down and expecting them to fail,refrain from that for this country Ghana ought to be better than what it is now.
Whether over ambitious or whichever way you prefer to describe them,all the promises must be welcomed by every meaningful patriotic Ghanaian or citizen of this land.

Nkrumah was criticised for Akosombo Dam , Tema and NDC criticised Oil Discovery and NHIS but started enjoying benefits of oil wealth. What does NDC stand for. Infrastructural development is good but value for money and the economy must grow to support all the big plans.

Candifate Akufo Addo needed very much to present AN ENTICINC CAMPAIGN (POMISE(S) in order to win power knowing very well that that was his last opportunity. He explained that very wrll to his campaign team as well as the FORMULATORS OF THE NPP MANIFESTO. They did their very best & managed to put together a MANIFESTO which had no obligation to explain many things in there.
When the first mention was made of the most striking campaign items the whole country were very bewildered because they sounded like KWAKU ANANSE Stories. However the NPP Campaign Machinery kept harping on them until they sounded good to the ghanaian electorate & consequently they gave their votes massively to the NPP/Akufo Addo now HE The President of The Republic of Ghana.
Time has now come for The President & His government to deliver on their campaign promises. So as much as they scratched their heads to put an enticing MANIFESTO together they equally had to put an equally AMBITIOUS BUDGET together to measure up to the ENTICING MANIFESTO.
Under normal circumstances & in other more developed democracies The NPP manifesto couldnt have been able to win the hearts of the electorate because there were too many unbelievables in there; however the level of our people to see through false promises is so low that they swallowed every promise line hook & sinker
Now the time has come that The President & his government must deliver.
The first STEP to this is THE BUDGET which must be in tandem with the MANIFESTO PROMISES. So the Finance Minister & his team also did a good job to prove themselves & the Party.
Now the time to deliver has come. Kwaku Ananse has finished his job now its left with President Akufo Addo Veep Bawumia & the Finance Minister. Whst next: Ghanaians are asking for what they were promised.
Lets see now how the DRAMA unfolds into the future;

I completely disagree with this MP's aversion. Like an individuals, as human beings, the NPP must show ambition and forward-looking in its bid to take the reins of power. Having outlined these ambitious objectives that moves the country forward, even if all of them are not achieved , any other party coming to power has the opportunity to complete them - and that is good for the growth of the country.
