Prof; a laudable talk indeed. I think it is time for all MMDA's to employ environmental health and safety coordinators, who would be responsible to the heads of these institutions. Safety representatives could as well be established in all sections of the institutions. It is so sad there are no safety policies in these institutions. Where there are, safety education is very minimal. We don't want any costly accident like the Medical Stores fire outbreak in TEMA. I believe the country has a lot of Environmental Health and Safety knowledgeable professionals within these institutions and yet management that doesn't see the relevance of safety fail to engage them, maybe out of the management's shear ignorance or negligence of safety. I suggest heads of institutions should be punished so well over all instances that caused an environmental and safety accident. If safety coordinators were at work, medical stores wouldn't have burnt. It is a pity the MoH hasn't learnt its lessons to look for the numerous safety professionals it has, just to task them. NPP minister should sit up. Prof has opened the gate.

Let me help this man to understand certain things as leaders.

1.NHIS
since the days of our independent, the country health delivery was on cash and carry, it was a policy regulator from k4 government who brought NHIS to stay- to me it has not got it perfect statues but at least we have a plan to shape it to perfection if we get the political will.

2. Heritage fund
it was the past government who thought it wise that we need to create that fund from the oil proceeds for our unborn generation, which is a loudable idea
3. Traffic congestion in our cities
do you blame the motorist ? hell no , past government saw it prudent to build dual carriage roads and some interchanges to ease the congestion, though we have not eliminated it outright, at least it has help, forget about the corruption in it because it is non material in this analysis.

housing deficit

k4 saw it very important to start the affordable housing units, which if you politicians paid much attention to could have reduce the deficit with some percentages by now.

all that i am tying to draw your attention to is the fact that -if people in power got visions and lay them down as policies and programs these type of challenges would not be there to talk about, but what do we see the people in power using the state money for ?
1.exgratia
2. v8 tundura and landcrusers,very consumable heavy cars
3.abandon the projects of last government,
4. 10% kickbacks
5.corruption- eg why should we employed personals at tollbooths ? to steal the money collected ? instead of buying a sticker for the whole of the year or go automated ?

why do we have to buy state cars for politicians ? to use it only for 3yrs and sell it out at very unthinkable Akomea prices, ? instead of asking them to use their own cars? tell me the years of Akuffu Addo car before he became the president ? but when got elected his own car is a taboo to mention to him ? are we normal human beings ?

if for eg the people cut trees for charcoal and it cause deafforestation, the prudent thing to do is to make electric or gas cookers available to them

if the people make open toileting, it is up to you to provide them a decent facility to be used
if the people throw out refuse in the street, or to our streams, it is the duty of the leaders to propose a clear road map in collecting and managing refuses as a priority to bring the people along and onboard.

Ghanaian leaders are like the pharasees in the bible ,, they preach something they themself dont believe and practice but want others to do it been practical or not.
there is noway you can change a society with mere preaching , there must be a migrating road map with safeguards

Support individual initiatives in the fight against Environmental degradation and its effect on heath
I am a Forest Research Scientist based in Germany. In 1995, I initiated a Tree Planting Project „Planting of Trees on Ghanaian School compounds“ with 4 Schools in the Central Region but now increased to 75, with school children planting beautiful trees on their School compounds. Solar lamps as incentive have been introduced into the project. A child gets a free solar lamp when he/she plants 4 trees and caters for them for 6 Months. Since every child is eager to receive a solar lamp, thousands of trees are being planted. A modern tree nursery has just been completed in September 2016 where 8000 tree seedlings have already been nursed and distributed. The project is sustainable since it is being guided by environmental education.
After reading an Article 'Dangerous Bananas on the Ghanaian Market', I became a victim when I came to Ghana to supervise my „Tree planting -Solar lamp-Project“ last year (2016). While travelling from Swedru to Accra early morning in July, I bought 4 nice looking pineapples on the road side and asked the woman seller to peel two, one for me and the other for Nana, the Project Manager, who was driving. I enjoyed mine but immediately afterwards lost my voice. I regained my speech after consulting a doctor at Korle-Bu Hospital who prescribed medication for me. The result was that the pineapple was chemically treated and brought for sale. The fact is that if I had no Money to consult a doctor and buy the medication, I will be speechless now. Unfortunately, many Ghanaians patronizing these contaminated fruits are accumulating these poisons (chemicals) gradually in them unlike my body which reacted immediately. I therefore employ Authorites like EPA, FDA etc. to also control Inland products since export products are strictly controlled. Likewise, bees, mushrooms, snails etc. are disappearing from farms and forests due to uncontrolled application of fertilizers, insecticides and other chemicals. I plan contributing further my quota towards this Problem. Anyone to join me?. Food for thoughts.
