Your's is an important question.
We will note, however, that Nkrumah had a mixed practice and vision, even just as the US and the social democratic states in Europe have, even today.
What happened after the overthrow was a total re-orientation to the West. That constituted a loss to Ghana on so many fronts. There are official records that support this "truth".
ITEM: That is one reason why we say it may be time for Akufo Addo and the NPP to apologize to Ghanaians for what their forebears did to Ghana.

Prof L,
You guys are spot on with your observations. As far back as 21 Dec. 2012, I had noted in my Staying in the Frying Pan aticle the shift of the NPP even under Kufuor into embracing left of centre policies. I wrote as the 2nd of my Xmas wishess from the incoming Mahama administration:
"Second on my list is bringing out the social in the claimed social democracy of the NDC. This is what shall create the industries and the jobs which are critically needed in the country. With the Rawlings factor, which is undoubtedly populist and right-wing, drown, we expect to see unfolding the left of centre which represents the Nkrumahist tradition the NDC has clearly captured. I personally do not expect much in that direction but the NDC must wake up to the fact that even the NPP in office was more to the left in its socio-economic policies than them, even though the political rhetoric of the NPP is right-wing, market oriented, private enterprise and property grabbing in practice, by the way!"
There you have it! I didn't do an evaluation of the inept Mahama regime but it doesn't need any analysis to know that the NDC under Mahama failed woefully to do what I tasked them to do. Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP want to do exactly that: the industries and the jobs! Kudos to them!
How are they going to do it? They claimed through private enterprise initiatives. I can smell a mile away what they intended to do. If they let themselves be overcome by private greed and tendency towards crony capitalism, grabbing community resources and opportunities Mugabe socialism style, instead of foster a communal ownership and benefit, they'd be in for a spate of conflicts. I have ideas which can make them popular and ensure they stay in power for 20 years! I am certainly not sharing! Let their greed consume!
I just want to end by saying a big shame to the CPP and the other so-called Nkrumaist parties for abusing the legacy Kwame Nkrumah. As for the NDC, they have no clue what social democracy means and entails. I wrote that I didn't expect much but to be so vampid and clueless is beyond pardon.

Kwadwo, you can say, write or fantasize all you want or lie if you must to delude yourself that socialist proposals by the NPP under the Akufo-Addo administration is different from Nkrumah era socialism. There are no better or worse socialism but socialism. There are socialism-ills just as democratic practices always leave a path of destruction creating slave masters or employers and slaves called labor. After all socialism offers a take it or leave it option just as in democracies the slave masters/employers tell the slaves/employers to take what they offer or leave because there is no room for union bargaining. After all, Kwadwo, cannot name one of your favorite democratic nations where governments gave each district/region/state a factory from the government neither can you conjure it. In the best of democracies government can take tax payer money to retain important institutions as America did under ex-President Bush in the bailout of banking and financial institutions or ex-President Obama did with bailout of GM. What you cannot find is government telling any district or region to create a factory, build a damn or give same amount to each district. In capitalism funding is by need and justification and the return of taxpayer money to districts, regions, or states are based on their need and or size. Simply put, Nana Akufo-Addo is engaged in socialist practices and advocacy and denying it will not make his socialism any more democratic than you Kwadwo becoming a Caucasian.

If Mr Duodu is as "rabid" a critic of Nkrumah's policies as is claimed, then when did he get "cured" of that rabidity enough so as to make him cite Nkrumah's development plans as an inspiration to the Akufo Addo Government?
This mindkess labelling of peope is what is preventing Ghana from going forward. As far as I know, Duodu's criticism of Nkrumah relattes to the Preventive Detention Act and other authoritarian measures. Does it mean that he shoud also condemn every one of Nkrumah's actions even if he admires them?
That shws a one-dimensional aproach to life and issues. The full extent of Kwame Nkrumah's understanding of socialism was one-party state, incarceration without trial, life presidency, suppression of the freedom of speech and of association; and the cultic worship of the President as immortal, as fountain of wisdom, and as infallible. That was Nkrumah's brand of socialism which is now irreversibly repudiated.
Under the despotic rule of Kwame Nkrumah, free education, free health care and free housing were all provided to the extent that they will make the people regard Nkrumah as some sort of a demigod worthy of worship.
Everything was therefore polluted to create the great infallible and immortal image of Nkrumah himself, and never done in the interest of the people. This toxic kind of illiterate socialism was what Nkrumah proffered, all geared toward his own self-aggrandizement and personality cult.
The more educated and civil alternative of socialism operates within the context of a free democratic societies such as in Europe and elsewhere, and is acceptable as the social tool for balance and equanimity. And within this admixture of the social/democratic principles, socialism operates to mitigate the residual harshness of the capitalist/democratic system and gives it a humanitarian face and phase.
We Danquists have always projected this version from the very beginning under our "development in freedom" mantra. Our property-owning democratic principle assumes universal opportunities for the citizenry so that they can evolve their talents and circumstances toward economic well-being in order for them to be sufficiently endowed to acquire their own properties. This actually means starting them off with those socialist provisions that will lay the foundation of their financial welfare and well-being, leading to their development in the context of true freedom and justice.
Nkrumah's fake and illiterate socialist principle required him to deprive of all the people of their freedoms and justice in order to substitute these deprivations with a set of free resources: free education, free housing free health etc. In other words, Nkrumah asked the people to give up their freedoms and justice for freebies! And that was his own brand of fake and toxic socialism!
Under the Akufo-Addo government, we purvey all the universal freedoms and justice together with the very best of the socialist principles: free education, health and housing........

Nonetheless, your response does not, and cannot dispute the fact that to Nkrumah's diminutive mind, socialism was a convenient means to impose tyranny on the country and to perpetuate his own rule and foolish self-aggrandizement.
Your strident utterances here do nothing to dispute this fact or alter that historical record. You yourself often quote the Singaporean dictator's style of leadership as Nkrumah's own template for Ghana's development, as if the only way a country can prosper like Singapore is when it is under a totalitarian regime!
We Danquists however project the view that freedom and development are not mutually exclusive. And that a social responsibility principle can work well with democracy to achieve national progress and development.......
Live with our triumphant and prevailing view and stop your diversionary tactic of introducing the Akosombo Dam which would not be in existence without the hard work of Gbedemah, who wicked Nkrumah later betrayed.
