There was near pandemonium and confusion at the Annual Global African Investment Forum held in Westminster, Central London after a heated exchange between Ghana’s President John Mahama and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo degenerated into open insults.This was due to General Obasanjo openly accusing the Ghanaian president and his government of blackmailing and collecting bribes from Nigerian businessmen in Ghana, buying numerous properties in Nigeria and South Africa and financially contributing 12 million dollars to Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign last year. This infuriated President Mahama who lost his temper and pointing his finger, called General Obasanjo an ” idiot” and a “silly buffoon”.It took other ministers present as well as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to calm tempers and usher President Mahama to a nearby room. The forum, which takes place from 1st to 3rd December is attended by African Heads of States, Ministers, Private equity firms and investors to discuss opportunities for investment and development in African Economies.

For all who are naive of what is behind the Asougaman Chiefs display of constitutional illegality , there is a historical under currents being played buy Mahama's NDC. And we should be careful of divisive politics.
Some history lesson: How did the Annum and Boso ended up in the Volta region? And why they and the Akwamu allied as Asuogaman? The Akwamu and Anum and Boso are linguistically far apart as Africa and India.
Now let's start with languages. The Gonja, Cherepons are all part of the linguistic group "Guan". So Anum and Boso are Guans from Chereponi. Those interested should visit these tribal enclaves to confirm the linguistic similarities.
And the Akwamus? You have to wait and things will be clear.During the great migration from the north by the Akan group the Akwamu were most militaristic and the Guans were their vassals. The Anum Boso became their allies as they pursued the Gonja to the south. The great Akwamu warrior Asare moved south with their allies Anum Boso to settle at Asaremankese now Asamnkese in Abuakwa land. Go to Asanankese to day and you will see the settlement of the Anum Boso on the hilly side of town. The Guans settled on the mountain range nea the coast and the Akwamu made them a vassal group. The Akwamu military head quarters was Kropong or now Akropng. Since there were no gold on the maintains the Akwamu demanded thousand slave annually from the Guans thus the name Nkoaapim or now Akuapim. To cut the story short: During reign Nana Ofori Payin ( 1645 - 1727) great Akim Abuakwa King Akuapims sought protection from the Akwamu. Ofori Payin ordered his nephew, Safari, into battle agsinst against the Akwamu on behalf of the Akuapim ( Guan). The superior army of the Akim drove the Akwamu and their allies Anum Boso to the present day Asougaman. Needless to to say the Akwamu hedgemony in the South ( Ga and Awutu) and the near East on the mountains were diminished. The Akwamu and the Anum Boso during the battles moved to connect with the Ashanti army lead by the Warrior Adu Bofo the that had campaigned in the Eastern part of the Volta and settled at Asikuma/ Peki. Anum Boso towns are very close to Asikuma/ Peki in the Volta region. The Akwamus lost all their lands in the south Eastern Ghana and influence as well. They had to push the Batos and other settler groups out to occupy the present day Asougaman. What the Asuogaman Chiefs done has linguistic and historical wars flavor. In this electoral cycle, the involvement of Chiefs seem to have historical underpinnings. Are some rogue politicians stoking historical wounds?
We need to remind Chiefs what the constitution says. And both Nana Addo and Mahama must discourage endorsements. Chiefs can thank politicians for good work done in their constituency and ask for more from all aspirants. Asuogaman constituency is made up of Ewes, Akan, Zongos and Krobo.
