I am not going to condemn any political party since both parties fell short of the true economic objectives of the country. What Ghana needs urgently is the diversification of the economy. This can be done by processing the abundant natural resources Ghana is endowed with. This means continuing to sell raw materials to foreign countries so far has been counter-productive. Ghana also urgently needs a manufacturing base which has been the catalyst for progressive states globally. Relying only on petroleum opens the country to devastating global shocks. With a diversified economy Ghana could withstand global shocks which has been the mainstay of developing countries while ensuring a robust currency for the country. Both NPP, NDC and previous governments have squandered their chances. Why will a country without any substantial natural resources such as Luxembourg have GDP per capita of $99,000 (2015 est.) while Ghana with abundant resources has a GDP per capita of $4,300 (2015 est.). Do not tell me Ghana cannot do this because Mauritius an African country continues to strive and can boast of $19,500 (2015 est). Ghana does not have any excuse to do better and this applies to both NPP, NDC and the myriad of political parties in the country.

Thank you counselor for your wise advice to our political parties and politicians.I hope they will take a cue from what has happened to the economies of those nations which depend almost solely on oil revenue as a result of the fall in oil prices.Russia,Nigeria,Angola,Saudi Arabia,etc are all reeling from the massive drop in the price of oil.We must learn from what is happening to their economies and diversify the economy and get more revenue from other sources.Emphasis must be placed first on agriculture to make the nation self-sufficient in food production and second the industrial sector stimulated to at least stop importing what can be produced in the country.More jobs will be created and extra money will be available to finance the budget for development.
