  Can the ministry of lands and related government institutions do something about this galamsey menace? I cannot believe that this problem is allowed to expand to cover so many areas of national existence. Rivers are polluted, other water bodies are polluted, farm lands are degraded, towns and villages are threatened as the miners can even dig up townships and the government is doing nothing about it. So even one of our largest foreign exchange earners is in trouble and no action from government. Exactly how much is being generated from these illegal mining activities that makes government think that they should not take really drastic measures to curb it? Even the water from the pra river that is expected to be used in irrigating the sugar plantations planned for the Komenda sugar factory is so polluted that it cannot be used without the expenditure of millions of cedis to treat it. That is where we are with this gallamsey rubbish.
