John Mahama, for the first time I heardhim that he is a member of Assembly of God Church, I was so happy. Not knowing that he is so corrupt and he is destroying Ghana. He must be voted out. It's Akufo-Addo's own responsibility to tell Ghanaians where he earned his law degree. He wants Ghanaians to vote for him to become president of the country and therefore they have the right to have complete knowledge of his entire educational background. If his claim of being a genuine lawyer is true, why is it a problem for him telling us which law school graduated him?

The fact is that if we Ghanaians don't take care, we're going to elect another crook like Kufuor who claims to be a lawyer but no one knows where he received his law degree. Kufuor all along gave the false impression that he obtained a law degree from Oxford University, but this university wrote to Ghana's parliament early during his administration in 2001, indicating that Kufuor didn't study law at Oxford but that he studied History, Philosophy and Economics. It's highly probable that Kufuor fooled Ghanaians and lied his way through to become president. No wonder, we all saw how corrupt be became immediately he assumed the reins of governance.

Akufo-Addo is similarly going to deceive us too. We Ghanaians are too gullible. And you Kwaku Tee is one of the problems with regard to this kind of issues, because of your unwillingness to reason properly and sensibly. You yourself know fully well that Akufo-Addo is a very corrupt individual and that his corrupt activities are already well documented. Of course, it's likely that people like you stand to gain in an Akufo-Addo's presidency; that's why you're blindly supporting him. What a shame!!!

As soon as Afoko came into office he changed the signatories to the party's funds, making himself and Kwabena Agyapong the sole signatories, sidelining the treasurer, who traditionally was one of the key signatories. So why did Afoko do this? He had an anti-Nana Agenda and saw the treasure as a pro-Nana activist who might derail the anti-Nana agenda. In pursuit of this sane agenda, Afoko also dismissed some unelected but technocratic staff at the party headquarters without recourse to the NEC or even the steering committee. The on-going court case has exposed Afoko as not only a liar but one who acted out of bad faith. NDC fools who were hoping to milk political capital out of this case have suffered big disappointment! Crawl back under your tattered umbrella and lick your wounds!

Your question clearly exposes Afoko's stupidity. Typically, newly elected officers take their time to learn from the outgoing officers and especially from the technocratic officers who manage the day-to-day activities of the organisation. Afoko went into spitting fire and antagonising everyone right from the get-go.

First, he seized the office that had been reserved for and used by the flag-bearer. He then held a press conference declaring himself the sole leader of the party.

Second, while failing to consult his predecessors on issues, apparently because they are pro-Nana Addo, he also attempted to sack technocratic/professionals officials whom he viewed as being pro-Nana. For similar reasons, Afoko wrote to the party's bank to drop the name of the treasurer as a signatory to the party's accounts ostensibly to starve Nana Addo's 2016 campaign of money.

The latter action prompted the treasurer and the first Vice Chair to re-activate the party's dormant accounts and then transfer into it resources the party had raised even before Afoko came into office.

Now, far from being an act of corruption, this was an act of wisdom, an action taken to stop the anti-Nana 2016 agenda. The NPP would have been stupid to sit down to allow the likes of Afoko to derail its electoral campaign in 2016 just to settle personal scores. Obviously if it had succeeded, Afoko's campaign of vendetta would have inured to the benefit of the NDC. It is no surprise then that it is the NDC seem so interested in keeping this Afoko matter alive. But as I pointed out earlier, Afoko is bleeding badly in his own court against the party. Better solve the economic challenges brought on by your mismanagement. Hoping to ride on divisions in the NPP to stay in power is so cheap! But what can we expect from such an utterly incompetent and corrupt bunch!

It is now a forgone conclusion that Akufo-Addo will be president come November. In order not to be left out, Rawlings and most of the chiefs in Ghana are queuing up to endorse Akufo-Addo. What has sparked this rush? The current spate of corruption in the country, as unprecedented as it is, has virtually no corresponding will to fight it or prosecutions to show for it. Mahama chose the wrong path, at a time of massive unemployment, by pursuing infrastructure development which by themselves do not offer sustained long term job creation, at the detriment of setting up full scale agro-based farm fed industries that would have benefited these chiefs and their teeming youth. Nil. Zero. Zilch!

We all know how he was secretly passing information to Rawlings when he was Attorney General. If you smoked marijuana on official trip abroad and you were caught, what makes you? If you had a baby with a 16 year old girl and silencing the parents with a house in Tema as a gift, what makes you? If you secretly planned against some people behind their backs what makes you? If you touched the breast of your own aunt, with the intention of *******, what makes you? You see, Rawlings is a joke, because there's no difference between material corruption and the other corruption. Former President Jerry John Rawlings yesterday turned Akwatia in the Eastern Region into another "boom" arena, attacking Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mr Rawlings had gone there to broker peace between factions of his party. Even though Akwatia NDC was boiling, with seeming cracks of division, the party founder spent most of his time 'hacking' the ruling party.

He described the recent congress of the NPP as a disgrace, since according to him, the elections were rigged in favour of Nana Akufo-Addo whom he described as ?another thief?.

He said when the NPP leadership saw that the elections were clearly going in favour of "Alan Cash", Lord Commey, the party's National Organiser cunningly grabbed the microphone to announce that somebody was distributing money to delegates to vote for "Alan Cash", in order to create confusion so the elections would be postponed.

According to him, the strategy used by Lord Commey worked to perfection as the NPP leadership after that announcement ?bullied? the delegates to vote for Akufo-Addo. "Alan Cash was going to be the clear winner but after Lord Commey used that strategy, everything went in favour of Nana Akufo-Addo," Rawlings alleged.

He told the NDC faithful gathered at the workers' club of Ghana Consolidated Diamond Ltd that the NPP was planning to rig the December general elections just as it did with the congress where Nana Akufo-Addo was elected the party?s presidential candidate.

"The NPP are bringing a thief to take over from another thief," he said, referring to Nana Akufo-Addo and President Kufuor, and added that there was no difference between the two."

The NPP leaders are a bunch of thieves; they are greedy and very selfish. They have looted the national coffers and see how they are shamelessly flaunting their wealth around in the midst of humiliating conditions of majority of the people".

According to the NDC founder, the party made a mistake by allowing the NPP to rig the 2004 general elections and that this time, NDC was going to be extremely vigilant to ensure that the NPP did not rig the elections again. He told the NDC loyalists to close their ranks and fight with a united front, noting that if they dissipated their energy on in-fighting and allowed the NPP to 'steal' the party, they should count themselves doomed.

Unfortunately we have such a politicized and polarized country that in spite of the obvious failings, of the incumbent president the elections are still going to be competitive. US, a country of 300 million has 2 parties but Ghana, a country of 26 million has 6 or more parties and still counting.
An incumbent always has a chance when the opposition is split as we have in Ghana. Thus even though the founder of his party is ashamed to stand by his ‘protégé’ he may still sneak in and inflict on this docile nation 4 more years of hell.

Akufo-Addo Is A Corrupt Individual!

Feature Article of Monday, 8 September 2014, Columnist: Mensah, Nana Akyea

Those of us who are worried about the slippery slope into political violence simply because a certain individual wants to be President "at all costs" must begin to raise our voices before it is too late! These series of articles must be seen as my personal contribution to help make sure that sanity prevails in our country before we descend into civil strife and possibly war. It is a humble call on all peace-loving Ghanaians to stand up and be counted!

I am particularly writing in response to the bullying tactics and campaign of insults that are fast becoming the hallmark of the Akufo-Addo campaign and to call the bluff of Mr. Mustapha Hamid, aide to Mr. Akufo-Addo, over his vituperative and intemperate attack on Dr. Arthur Kennedy's call for "a united party that has dealt with corruption and violence and intimidation". Certainly Dr. Arthur Kennedy must know a thing or two about corruption within the NPP in which Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been involved. The fact that he is not pointing them out directly does not mean there is nothing to worry about! I have every intention to address the issue squarely, even if takes a series of ten parts. This is only the beginning.

Dr. Kennedy still remains a party faithful and is not expected to wash the dirty clothes of the NPP in public. But at this stage, his silence on what he knows might be a disservice to God and country. I shall have the time to deal this this aspect in a later series. For now, suffice it to say that I have read carefully his statement calling for sanity to prevail in the party. The spirit of intolerance currently reigning in the NPP will not only ensure its defeat in the 2016 elections, but might also plunge our country into political chaos.

First of all, I wish to thank in advance, all those party sycophants who are quite predictably going to jump at me and insult and annoy me because they will only help to give me fuel to produce the second part of this article with maximum alacrity. The knee-jerk response to the slightest criticism of Nana Akufo-Addo with insults and unwarranted attacks and intimidation is exactly what I am complaining about. And it must be clear to all that Nana Akyea Mensah will not be intimidated!

The systematic attempts by Akufo-Addo's aides to insult and intimidate his opponents and critics is certainly not the best way to defend our democracy. I find it most unfortunate that in all these, Nana Akufo-Addo himself has remained silent, instead of calling his aides to order. Our democracy must not give way to school-yard bullies! It is absolutely important for our democracy to make sure that political candidates endeavour to win elections by the force of their arguments and not by the argument of force.

Apart from the insults, the only Presidential candidate whose body guards have been known to beat up opponents is none other than Nana Akufo-Addo! We all know his personal body guards were seen beating up those of the late President Atta-Mills' at the Oguaa Fetu Afahye in 2008. They were seen beating up former President Rawlings cameraman in a hotel lobby in Kumasi, with Akufo-Addo looking on approvingly! The unfortunate trend still continues to this day. Is it too much to ask that this must stop?

It is a shame that the only occasion where Nana Addo has been on record to condemn these senseless attacks was when they beat up Mr. Alan Kyeremanteng's supporters at the NPP headquarters. They went ahead to beat up President Mills' body guards again at the Manhyia Palace during the 2008 Odwira Festival, under the pretext that a body guard was carrying a gun. What kind of logic is that? Were they expecting body guards to carry bananas?

There is no doubt in my mind that had Dr. Kennedy said what he was saying in the presence of Akufo-Addo's body guards, he would have been severely beaten, and Nana Akufo-Addo would have most probably approved of it! In the lead-up to the 2012 elections, Mr. Asamoah-Boateng had to run for dear life when he attempted to pay a courtesy call at Nana Addo's "Victroy 2012" headquarters. They charged at him on sight, screaming, "Agenda 2016"! "Agenda 2016"! "Agenda 2016"!

Even the current chairperson of the NPP, Mr Paul Afoko, has already received this "baptism of fire" from Nana Akufo-Addo's henchmen, as they generously doled out a fair share of their severe beatings for daring to challenge their boss! A party that cannot tolerate any form of criticism is a political dictatorship and not a political party! What was so wrong with the wise counsel of Dr. Kennedy? If indeed the NPP really means to win an election in Ghana, then they need to heed this call: "The truth is that" Dr. Kennedy writes, "the NPP brand has been tarnished by divisions and violence and intemperate talk since 2008. To win, If he becomes the nominee, he needs a united party that has dealt with corruption and violence and intimidation behind him. To get there, he has huge mountains to climb."

We know very well about Mr. Akufo-Addo's reputation for violence and intimidation, so the least said about this "all die be die" individual, the shorter this article would be. I do not intend to labour the point. However, the spin Mr. Hamid is trying to put on Akufo-Addo as being incorruptible cannot pass without comment. He ought to have let sleeping dogs lie! I have decided to focus on this aspect in these series of articles. Hence the title.

Mr. Mustapha Hamid was quoted as saying, “We are all human beings and may have our deficiencies but Nana Addo’s deficiencies do not include corruption, they do not include violence and they do not include exclusion,” Mr. Mustapha Hamid noted in his attack on Dr. Kennedy. He even went further to claim that Nana Akufo Addo is "unblemished when it comes to corruption".

To further buttress his point, he stated:

"As Attorney-General and later minister for Foreign Affairs, Nana Akufo-Addo, never drew one litre of fuel from government coffers, he paid for his own security, never lived in a government bungalow, paid extra from his own pocket in order to sleep in hotels when he went abroad, etcetera; those are public records at the ministries where Nana Addo served as minister".

Really? This is ridiculous! Living in a government bungalow officially designated for ministers does not make a minister corrupt! Sleeping in a hotel on official duties at government expense does not make one corrupt! It seems to me that Mr. Mustapha Hamid does not even know what constitutes corruption! This is a rare piece of nonsense. Is a minister to be considered corrupt simply because he lives in a state bungalow?

For starters, if indeed Mr. Hamid thinks what he is saying is true, then I challenge him to ask his boss to throw more light on what happened at the Hotel Hyatt & Resorts, located on 24M Streets, Nw, Washington, DC 20037, on Wednesday, June 4, 2008. I am putting it to Mr. Akufo-Addo that this is not only a closely guarded secret because it was a criminal fund-raising activity that broke both US and Ghanaian laws, but that he also used the Ghanaian tax payers' money and state resources to finance the entire fund-raising event!

And we are not talking about small money here. The whole event was organized by The Whitaker Group, lobbyists and investment promoters, which later confirmed that indeed the Government of Ghana paid it sums amounting to $1.3 million. The Whitaker Group further explained that "the money was not for lobbying on behalf of the Government only, but includes other works aimed at facilitating trade and investment to create jobs".

This was in reaction to a Ghanaweb publication on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, an article detailing how the Government doled out the sum, explaining that "among other things the money went to service dinners hosted for officials of Government". Incidentally, Dr. Kennedy was present at the luncheon as the Director of Communications of the Akufo-Addo campaign. He laconically admitted that the secret luncheon did indeed take place with a group composed of mainly US multinational corporations:

"The group", Dr. Kennedy said, "was made up of people with substantial investments in Ghana and also of others who have an interest in investing in Ghana. The meeting was therefore to afford Nana Akufo-Addo the opportunity to explain his vision of transforming the Ghanaian economy and creating a modern society. The dangers associated with big multinational corporations in the USA financing political parties in a poor third-world country like Ghana cannot be under-estimated. This is the most serious form of political corruption available on the planet! The selection of so-called "business-friendly" candidates by these corporations to "help" them win power are translated often in lower labour standards, a blind eye on vital environmental protection measures, and generally sacrificing the common good for special interests, such as the imposition of GM foods on the population without the consent of the people!

As Adam Smith (Scottish philosopher and economist, 1723-1790) once put it, "People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public." The question Mr. Hamid must answer is what was Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, who went to the US in search of funding, doing secretly in a room full of multinational corporations, some of whom have been convicted of bribery and corruption in countries as diverse as Germany and Indonesia?

Of course, you and I were not there! And your guess is as good as mine! So if Mustapha Hamid wants to tell us his boss is not corrupt, he must begin by giving us further and better particulars on this event, and stop throwing dust into our eyes on government bungalows!

Lower life expectancy which has fallen below 40 years( they would tell u it is 60 but that is not true because we all live here and have eyes to see, they have no accurate record of births and deaths.

Poor nutrition leading to poor physical health, there is big difference in the physical appearance of a child from the third world compared to one from the civilized world.(remember, a sound mind is found in a sound body)

Looking at some of the negative effects of corruption, it is insane that some officials engage in it and it is also insane that some people vote to retain a corrupt government in power. Ghana needs change of gov in order to pursue those that have stolen monies meant for the dev. of our children.
