The Housemaster is trying to protect himself. The question is, did the student request an Exact to go and see a Doctor earlier in the day and he as a Housemaster refused?
So the school Authorities were not aware of the health status of the student? Maybe this is not a requirement at our high schools but if it is not, then it should be a requirement that all students especially boarding students should have their recent health condition including illness of every student on record at the school and housemaster and house mistresses should have this record with them.

@ Sarpong disclosing medical condition is not a requirement for admission to our secondary schools. Parents can volunteer that information if the ward has condition of this young man so that the school is made aware of that. Anyway my brother how many Ghanains are aware of their health status. Even at the universities where medical test is done is not enough. I think the medical test is only done for common diseases like malaria and the likes. Though I do agree that disclosing student medical status especially the borders should be a requirement.

For example if a student suffers from Asthma, there should be an Asthma Action Plan form filled by the student's Doctor to be given to the school Authorities so that in the unlikely event of an attack, treatment could be instituted before say an Ambulance arrives.

Maybe I shouldn't say this but exact was not a hindrance to me when I was in Secondary school. My Housemaster didn't see eye to eye with me at certain point in school and after I had been refused exact for two consecutive weekends, I never bothered to seek one and rather started giving myself exact anytime I wanted to go to town.
Yes, I did issue myself exacts for about three years by making copies of blank exacts and filing it anytime I needed one. I was not going to allow any Housemaster to prevent me from going to town as long as I was going to be absent overnight.

THESE DAYS STUDENTS ARE ADMITTED ANYTIME EVEN IN THE SECOND TERM THROUGH PROTOCOL. SONS OF POLITICIANS, CHIEFS AND OTHERS ARE ADMITTED WITHOUT MEDICALS. A TUTOR OF HOLY CHILD SCHOOL COMPLAINED HOW THE FIRST LADY BROUGHT A BUS LOAD OF 18 STUDENTS FROM THE NORTH TO BE ADMITTED AROUND THE END OF THE FIRST TERM LAST YEAR. AND YOU CAN IMAGINE THOSE STUDENTS ARE VERY DULL, BUT WHO CAN CHALLENGE THE WIFE OF THE PRESIDENT.

How can the authorities says the boy died because he has sickle cell.having Sickle cell doesn't guarantee death, it is negligence on the part of the authorities. Such problems are manageable unless it was not disclosed by parents . Patient need a lot of guidance not to do all that his peers are doing at school .They should have called the parents immediately he complained to know the step forward. Let's hope this doesn't happen again. School Authorities must accept their fault and stop trying to defend otherwise parents of sickle cell will stop sending their ward to the boarding house.
