it is so tragic. For the athletes for whom this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in limbo. However there is a way to tackle this. First of all look carefully at the list of the people that absolutely NEED to go in other words cut it down to a miimum that will make a lot of savings because the ghanaians like to travel with a lot of extra people in the delegation which quite frankly is unnecessary, costly and even hampers the athlete a things quickly descend into a 'party' atmosphere. SO the Minister would be doing the athletes a BIG favour if he actually started to act on their behalf and their best interests rather than the Federations who just want to milk it to be honest. The second thing to do is to really question the Federations about their selections and DEMAND from them a clear account, in writing what their selection criteria is. If they've picked the best person with the best record, then the Minister has a chance to persuade commercial sponsors. NO CORPORATION OR BUSINESS PERSON IS INTERESTED IN SPONSORING GHANAIAN ATHLETES BECAUSE HALF THE TIME THE ONES THAT HAVE BEEN SELECTED ARE A RESULT OF PERSONALITY ISSUES. AND WE ALL KNOW THAT IF YOU ARE A WINNER YOU'RE USUALLY NOT A SUCKY KISS ASS PERSON IN LIFE SO WINNERS HAVE A WINNER'S ATTITUDE AND THAT IS THREATENING TO THE SOME ADMINISTRATORS IN GHANA SPORTS AND FEDERATION PRESIDENTS. In other words, if there was transparency and a real explanatin for the merits of the individuas picked then corporations might come onboard. But if you have a Martha Bissah for instance and you don't pick her and pick someone else then don't be surprised if the business world doesn't want to back you. Or same in swimming or whatever. In other words, the Minister needs to know WHY the individuals have been picked. What their ACTUAL TITLES AND CHANCES ARE, and then whittle down the unnecesary numbers of hangers on and then have a proper and real budget. that budget can be covered at that point. The South Africa government said that they would NOT agree to any South Africn athlete going to the Rio Olympics, even if they had qualified. They are going to make the choice based on the actual chances and historical performance of EVERY ATHLETE NOMINATED. SO THEIR PLAN FOR THESE OLYMPICS WERE, FIRST YOU QUALIFY THEN WE LOOK AT YOUR RECORD AND THE FIELD AND DECIDE IF WE ARE GOING TO INVEST AND SEND YOU. And that's South Africa, a country with a lot bigger economy and a lot of medal success in the past. If the Minister did this he would not have sleepless nights because right now he's trying to solve an impoosible problem with ridiculous expectations by federations who feel they are above explaining anything to anyone!

This is why I think this guy is not fit for his position. A competent minister would have appealed to the private sector for sponsorship long ago. Do you see that he is still not making an appeal even though he is expressing his frustration about how to sponsor the athletes. This is a sign of "machismorism," incompetence at best, refusing to bow to anyone for help. He must understand that he cannot do anything successfully alone. Therefore, he changes his attitude all relinquish his post for a better person.

How will the private sector respond knowing how wasteful we have been as a nation during the past few years. He has to step down as a minister to save the ministry. He is causing too much friction there.

I don't agree that he has to step down. In fact I think since he's demonstrated that he has no fear of taking on the powerful football lobby, he is actually a good guy for the post but what he needs to do is to go further. He has to have an inquiry into the whole way the sports federations do buiness and the way they are performing. he has to establish a new modus operandi with demands for selection criteria and statues by every federation to take it out of the dark greay areas that meas that these federations do whatever they like. because whatever they like has not produced any results anywhere and anyone that tries to do the right thing is always shunted off because they blow the whistle. SO THIS MINISTER CAN ACTUALLY INSIST ON A THOROUGH AND REAL CLEAN UP AND WHEN HE DOES THAT, THEN CORPORATE BODIES WILL GET INVOLVED BECAUSE THEY WILL SEE THAT THERE IS A CHANCE THAT ACTUALLY SOMEONE IS LOOKING AFTER THE ATHLETES, THE SPORTS AND THEREFORE LIKELY TO SUCCEED. YOU CAN'T ASK SOMEONE TO INVEST IN ALMOST CERTAIN FAILURE!!!

This is common sense. Nii take charge before you start peeing on yourself. Most of these guys are just going to add to the number of people at the games. Instead, streamline your qualification times. For instance, the qualification time per IOC requirement for a 100 meter dash is 10.5 seconds. Meanwhile, the final 8 or 9 athletes at the games will all run under 10 seconds, so if no Ghanaian athlete is running below 10 seconds, why take him? Some will say, it's a means of encouragement to the athlete for as long as he or she has met the qualified time. But we are hard strap with money so there's no time to bullshit about. Take the athletes that are showing signs of possibly winning a medal for such trips period.

And put half the money that you would have spent on sending them to Rio on local development and African competitions. It is better to build in the African zone and take it from thre and also focus on the younger athletes and develop them through Juniors and the Junior Olympics. The Weightlifters are doing good, Martha Bissah should DEFINITELY have been sent and it is absolutely outrageous that she was banned because she won't say sorry or whatever the weak and pathetic excuse is. In fact the Minister should sack the Athleteic President for that ridiculous decision! A youth Olympic medallist who put in a brilliant performance and is only 18 and has at least two more olympics in her should the one to go with her chosen coach (WHOEVER SHE CHOOSES) and whoever else has really good times in athleteics. The swimmer who has good times, the weightlifter who has a chance, not just spend spend spend and hundreds of people going to Rio for a jolly!!! they don't even help the athletes and half the time get in their way with their USELESS advice when they have NO CLUE!
