Here is the ruling in simple English for you.
Hello EC we know you are trying to act outside the constitution and are not following our instructions. You brought us numbers that were not real but we won't hold you in contempt. School kids go back and clean your desks plus all the other mess you did not want us to see.
The Supreme Court has give Charlotte Osei and team a rope with a noose to hang themselves.
If at a later date, God forbid, there is another Electorial court case from the 2016 vote and it is proven by through audit that they did not delete all the NHIS registered voters, then the Supreme Court will find them in contempt and send them to jail for not doing as instructed by the court.
EC must complie a new voters register. All this Broohaha is not worth anyone's reputation and possible time in jail for politicians.
After all the EC's mandate is to be a fair Refree.

This ruling is actually nonsensical and doesn't make sense at all. This is because;
the court said that the deleted names should be given another chance to re-register.
Which actually means that;
56000 deleted = 56000 reregistered again
-56000 + 56000=0
The end result will be waste of money, waste of energy, and waste of time.
I can only agree that Abu Ramadan and his lawyers have succeeded in making fun of our supreme court, NPP and Ghanaians.
And this was what the wise general mosquito was saying all this while that it will be a waste of time and a fruitless exercise because the same names will end up in the register again. I think General Mosquito is a wise and needs to respected.

Our systems aren't functioning well. That's why US Prez Obama said on his visit to Ghana. The SC is not courageous enough to stamp its feet to correct all the wrongs going on in our electoral system. The petitioners asked for proper accounts of all NHIS card-bearing registrants, which the EC had admitted was unconstitutional because they were in the MAJORITY! So how does the SC agree to 56,000 names that was presented? These are the reasons why Ghanaians have lost faith in our courts. It's not a surprise that some individual would threaten the SC because they're bogus in their vies or opinion.

What is wrong with you? Deleting 56,000 from the register is not what will win Akuffo Addo is over ambitious and insatiable desire to be president. After all who said these people are all NDC people. Also these people would be given opportunity to re-register and nobody can prevent them from registering if they show evidence of citizenship. This is a useless and waste of time. What the NPP are looking for is a new register which they didn't get and can do all the legal gymnastics but it would not lead them anywhere. Nobody can present any fake additional list to the EC to delete them. Those making those assertions must know that the EC is the custodian of the form A1. Nobody can create fake form A1 which I know the NPP and their cohorts can do based on the election petition experience. People are wide awake to the devilish and dirty tricks. This time it won't work. If they also think of using court cases to disrupt the elections calendar with the aim of creating constitutional crisis that would also not work. As for you so called old soldier the least said the better. You don't look like someone cultured. Even street child would have some sense in him than what your post betrayed you

Mr. Nartey I think you miss the whole picture once you introduce partisanship into the meaning of this SC ruling. It is all about constitutional rule. Not a Victory or Loss for any political party. The issue is , should we allow any constitutionally mandated institution to be a law into itself and do whatever it pleases?
The establishment of citizenship is what give one a right to vote under the 1992 constitution. The same constitution made sure the EC cannot be influenced by politicians so it insulated this institution from manipulations in the performance of their mandate. But their independence did not give them the authority to disregard the qualification required to register to vote, which is proof of citizenship. This is what this case was all about. You want to excersise your right to vote? Then establih your citizenship, register and vote. Period. This is not hard to understand folks?'
Today our Supreme Court made all Ghanaians proud by affirming that Ghana is a country where the "Rule of Law" is supreme, As one of the plaintiffs declared: the" SC ruling is a victory for Ghana." Today the message was we should not allow the schemers and frsusters to rigg our Electorial processes for their benefit and potentially plunge this country into civil strife as occurred in Ivory Coast, Kenya and other countries.
Democracy is always a work in progress. Let's build strong institutions and support them fir a better future for the next generations.
The "Peace" and progressive developments we seek as a people can come about only if we perceive our governance institutions to be transparent and fair .
Long live our motherland Ghana

No court delivers judgement with retroactive effect. This ruling is surreal. The supreme court is setting a dangerous precedent. This action, however,is not surprising because the Chief Justice is related to the NPP (Atta Akyea) by marriage. Most of those who sat on the case are Kufuor appointees, and that makes the ruling more dangerous for the future.
This is an unfair burden on the EC. It is akin to debt judgement where one can clearly see the judges do not understand economics or finance principles. Our learned friends are half baked, and they know it. This is not the time for emotional ruling.
The "NHIS" should have been challenged in 2012 and not 2016.

KM, the point is once the act was legal, you can tweak it but cannot change what was previously done. Take the converse case. If one is jailed because of an act that was illegal at the time but that same act has been decriminalized, those who ran foul of the law and were penalized are not compensated. But going forward, those who commit the same act are not committed to court. It is that simple.
If you lived in the 1940's and 1950's (as I did), you will remember it was illegal to sell Akpeteshie. Many people were jailed and or fined for both selling and drinking. Today it not an illegal act. Those who were fined did not have their monies returned to them let alone the interest. Those who were jailed did not receive any pardon from the state.

There was no ambiguity with the position of the SC in it's rulings from way back 2014. Indeed, in it's May 2016 ruling, 2 years after the 2014 ruling, the order of the SC could not have been more succinct.
The fact that the EC and the Mahama NDC gov't and party felt, there was any ambiguity when all over the country and outside the country, Ghanaians understood the orders of the SC so very clearly and brilliantly, with the exception of the EC and President John Dramani Mahama showed, a certain reluctance, a certain inertia, a certain belligerent and intransigent position that deviated from the facts and the evidence and manifestly, the orders of the Court when juxtaposed against the mandate of the EC to ensure free, fair, credible, transparent and reasonably acceptable election results in this country.
So the question is why was the EC and the Mahama NDC gov't so fixated to the point of threatening to murder Justices and Judges, on flouting with such gross utter disrespect and disregard and impunity such clear orders, when the SC had also expressly stated that all and every attempt should be made not to disenfranchise Ghanaians who would be so affected in carrying out the orders of the court?
Let us just say after the 2014 ruling, after the 2016 ruling with Justice Dotse even going ahead to speak to the matter and recusing himself, with further clarification again sought to orders which should be clear to even primary school kids, there can be no confusion and no ambiguity in this matter going forward.
The mandate of the EC to organize credible, free, fair, transparent and acceptable elections to the satisfaction of Ghanaians and not it's executive appointing authority has never been clearer, and hopefully the EC is under no illusion of this mandate, as Ghana goes into this 2016 elections and any elections after that.

Wasn't it the NPP that alleged that over 4 million N HIS card bearers votedin 2012 as such their votes should declared null and void? Ghana has a big problems having such characters in our mist.
