Stupidity and ignorance and tribal politicking is bringing them there. Sometimes I wonder this is our beloved Ghana. Most of these members of Parliament do not know what the issues are, and do not understand the importance of not selling your birthright for political expediency, however sadly, the do it. What a disgrace!

Mr Minority Leader, I understand your argument, however since parliament is not there for a particular group of Ghana, it means any true Ghanaian can stand and be voted into the house, whether they paid their way in or through their popularity. There are no institutions in Ghana where aspiring parliamentarians are trained. You all learnt the process as apprentice before you gained that experience. I wish those of you who call yourself ‘seniors’ in that enclosure should nurture the new entrants to take the mantle from you whenever you are voted out.

Many of the Parliamentarians have "qualities" no higher than the shoes they wear or the "folks" suits they buy from the ministries. Have you noticed that some of them do not even know how to knot their ties? And some of them can not even tell the difference between women's and men's clothes. It doesn't stop there; even the president does not know that he has to put his teacup back on his saucer after a sip. This is how bad it has gotten to when you have barbers and butchers as parliamentarians.

It is a very true observation. Apart from ignorance on the workings of parliament, many MPs do not even know the social structure of their constituencies. They know nothing about how to impact the very people they represent. They do not know anything about the law, and worse of it they either absent themselves frequently or fail to read any document before supporting its passage. All they follow is their party's line of thought. The next parliament may even have many unqualified persons, reading from the primaries of the two leading parties. It is a sad situation for democracy in Ghana, but the big question is, what is the way forward?

In a democracy what then do you do?
If you as Minority leader wants to introduce a Minimum educational standard, fine! But I doubt it!
If you demand the MPs to read on certain laws before taking their seats, let the Speaker say so and then implement it!
If you want to give new MPS some orientation, say so!
If you demand MPs to visit their constituencies every quarter and render account of the MP common funds given them that most pocket, say so!
As the Bible says "the talk of the lips leads only to penury".
MPs have not doe. A food job to promote service to the nation and most Ghanaians view you as just interest in self-gain.
Have MPs brought up issues of
-Underground sewage systems for our towns and cities as mandatory?
- Flood control design and construction for cities like Accra?
-supervisory and enforcement to ensure loans procured for major projects such as the $795 million for the Accra Flood control, or for electricity or $4.2 billion for water projects in 2005/2096 time, are actually itilizes for intended orojects and accounted for;
- amending the constitution and decentralizing some executive powers and allowing towns and cities and districts to elect their own leaders locally and to be accountable to them and do plan for their own survival?
- setting minimum standards for road construction and reports needed before contractors are paid and even
- licensing artisans and contractors such as electricians, plumbers, masons, welders, so they can be qualified manpower for global companies that may need qualified work force?
- reviewing and enforcing laws on the AUDITOR GENERALS reports that have thousands of malfeasance never prosecuted?
Hon. Mensah-Bonsu has been in Parliament for decades and one expects some better level of action beyond utterances and complaints from him!
All the best.
