Employment and development will only come with a policy of producing and adding value to our primary products, setting up factories to make things: pineapples into pineapple juice, palm fruit into palm oil, soap making, etc. The building of the factories will provide jobs for laborers, and you have a multiplier effect all around. Until the governments make economic policies and create corruption-free incentives to set up an industrial and productive economic base, there will be nothing to alleviate the chronic unemployment and underemployment in Africa. The hifalutin nonsense and catchy phrases thrown up by idiotic unthinking bureaucrats mean nothing. “I see great entrepreneurship potential in many of the 45,000 applicants that applied for TEEP this year alone, but the level of training, mentoring, and networking that we offer means that we can only select 1,000 each year. I call on everyone here to support those who missed the cut. This is a clear path to sustaining African economic growth.” is nonsensical. The only clear path to economic growth is in setting up an enabling environment for productivity and imaginative use of our resources, not bullshit and cant. Nigeria drills oil, but still imports gasoline and oil by products and practically everything, including toothpicks!! Nothing is produced there, while we run to China’s factories to buy finished goods. Ghana has cocoa, we can’t produce one high class chocolate making factory. Half the produce gets rotten in villages, where there is no transportation network to bring the goods to market, or to convert tomatoes to tomato paste at the local level of harvest. Africans appear simply incapable of thinking beyond their immediate needs; are corrupt, selfish, disorganized, uncooperative with each other, and consequently end up at the bottom of the economic ladder, producing cheap raw materials for other economies to add value and re-sell those added on products to them. We are fools; and until we get the right committed, educated, imaginative, leaders who are dedicated to the cause of their own people and collectively act, we will forever remain poor, unemployed, downtrodden; and have guys like this fool in a bow tie mouthing off high sounding meaningless crap trap with no clue to finding a real solution.
