I hope many of them will marry more wives and produce more children which will increase future NDC votes.

By the way, who will vote for a party kicking against the factory? I am sure this factory enable NDC win Eastern Region and increase NDC's Ashanti votes to 1.5 m.

I incline to think it is people from opposition side whose emotions get tickled when facts and truth expose their falsehood. Just like calling the British High Commissioner FOOL because he revealed the truth about alleged crime implications rumor started by opposition member.

I urge you to read and understand before you start to attack the person of a comment posted and write well or check your spellings, whichever is the problem.

The factory is not meant to produce sugar to compete with world market prices but to, at least, help solve some of the sugar importation problems.

Farmers can be supported to produce sugarcane to feed the industry and cut down on our imports. I need employment oo and will thus support anything that would produce legitimate jobs. Ofosua should wake up from her slumber. The Dr's argument is matured and unbiased argument we seek in this forum. Instead of the insults, Ofosua should lay out her counter argument. It is time "think thanks" think through their "policy statements'" if they want to be taken serious. Though they may be right in their assertion, some of us would like to know the basis upon which such assertions were made. Any "think thanks" who seek the interest of Ghana should remove their political lenses since that could easily cloud their judgement. Ghana is bigger than any political party and those who seek a better future for Ghana must encourage Dr Arthur's remarks which seeks to give credit where credit is due, while encouraging best practices from all. Our myopic political lenses is killing innovation and the development that Ghana needs so badly. Let us revive the spirit of patriotism and selfless service that holds the key to our future. So, Ofosua, we have been sleeping on this "one-sided-thinking" corner for far too long and it is time we wake up from our slumber and change our position for a better Ghana. Nobody has said having the sugar factory at Komenda is wrong or bad. What they are talking about is the lack of proper think through, void of political propaganda purposes, to ensure the whole supply chain of sugarcane to feed the factory was in place as soon as it was commissioned. The current situation of commissioning it only to shut it down 48 hours later for six months is nothing short of election grabbing stunt. Is this so hard for you to understand Doctor Kakabo? Shut your beak up sometimes. You don't have to respond to everything all the time.

Nowhere in this world will a FACTORY be COMMISSIONED, to start production, and immediately after that (preciely two days later), as soon as the Media with their Journalists leave the site, be shut down for 6-months repairs. What are they going to repair? And how do they know it will take six good months? What is going to happen to the raw materials in the production line? I can tell you THERE IS NOTHING!!!
But then, I ask: Did the President press a knob to set anything in motion when he supposedly COMMISSIONED(?) the factory, when they all knew the factory needs at least SIX MONTHS repairs before anything can start moving?
If you also have a question or two that need to be clarrified, then can you blame anybody who sees the actions of the President at Kommenda as sheer propaganda?

I listened to news file and wondered why someone will think that solving part of a problem is needless. We should have concerns about competition from imported sugar but that is a challenge any serious person should embrace. We should not do it because of competition? The world is about accepting reasonable competition and Ghana and for that matter Komenda Sugar Factory must rise up to the ocassion. Even if we are able to reduce our import bill on sugar by 40% in the next 5 years it is a plus as "Rome was not built in a day".

I was very disappointed in Kofi B. and the Dr Afriyie for decaring doom for the Komenda sugar factory. All the big corporations in the world started from a very humble beginnings. The had it tough but with determination and hardwork they are able to rise above all the problems to become a global brand. Apple went through a series of upward and downwards growth since the inception of the company from a very humble beginning yet they are still trading today. Instead of insulting the intelligence of the government I think the best thing for a think tank like yours to do us to advise the government on other ways we can improve on the yield of the sugar cane by researching into countries using a similar technology as ours. This is what a think tank does rather than behaving like a political party. It is a shame to hear you speak like that but I am not surprised because you are being funded by the Danish government and other international bodies who knows that should ghana succeed in its sugar production it will create unemployment in their country so they have to use traitors like Imani to help their interest. A project designed around populism and propaganda over the long term will fail, because the critical ingredients needed for its longevity had not been factored into it, and concerns raised by Nduom, Bentil and all manner of Ghanaians are very legitimate most especially when, every Ghanaian is acutely aware of the fact that, the basic raw material resource needed for the factory to operate at its fullest capacity, is not available and would not be available for some time.
That is a deficit in planning considering the magnitude of the investment, underpinned by the lack of any thinking in the revamping of the old factory.
The other factors influencing the importation of the product and the people and individuals involved, and the liberal trade policies by virtue of the fact that Ghana is a signatory to a number of them and other bilateral agreements, when considered, creates the situation where things start to crystallize as to the long term viability of the factory, for those who take the exercising of the brain muscle seriously.
Then you come to the raw material and it's cultivation, the soil characteristics and how it has changed or otherwise over time, and how this is going to impact it's production factoring in the issue of climate change and whether the Custodians of the land would even be willing to give out land for such a venture and under what terms and what benefits would accrue to them directly or if they would be better off leasing their land for other more profitable ventures.
Then you come to efficiency in the cultivation and harvesting of the raw material and how that influences the cost of the final product vis-a-vis the competition ie the market dynamics at which point, it becomes more competitive for the factory or otherwise and what interventions would come into play and whether those interventions would be in tandem with market forces of which the factory and the farmer have no control over.
So it is not just a simple matter of there is an old factory, it has been revamped and it is ready to produce 100% but the raw material is even not there. Now if there is such a situation right from the onset, it cannot be the case a lot of thinking went into such a project because from the get go, it has been exposed as such and now situated it firmly in the realm of populism and propaganda. And given the fact that other projects such as the Pwalugu Tomato factory when subjected to critical analysis exposed it as now the playground of goats, sheep and all manner of ruminants, it does follow the Komenda factory would follow a similar fate and that is just being true to the facts. IMANI and Bentil are not doing propaganda with the Komenda factory, but situating it within the realm of truth which Arthur K just does not seem to appreciate, which unfortunately, nobody can help him.
