Clearly, having the factory is simply irrelevant if we don't have the sugarcane to produce sugar. Did mahama think about this? In 1967 Dr. Osagyefo gave us 2 sugar factories. Faztforward to 2016 and we only have one with no sugarcane to feed it....hmmmmmniggas!

THERE CAN NEVER BE ENUFF SUPPLY OF SUGARCANE TO FEED THIS FACTORY. THE EXTRA CANE CAN EVEN BE EXPORTED TO EARN FOREIGN EXCHANGE REVENUE FOR THE NATION. THE PROBLEM IS WHY BUILD A HOUSE BEFORE U ERECT A FOUNDATION? THE EUROPEANS DONT IMPORT COCOA FOR THEIR CHOCOLATE FACTORIES BECOS THEY R STUPID. THEY DO SO BECOS THEIR WEATHER IS NOT CONDUCIVE FOR COCOA GROWTH. SO THEY HAVE INVESTED IN COCOA FARMS IN AFRICA N BUY COCOA BEANS AT CHEAP PRICES BCOS THEY CONTROL THE COMMODITY MARKETS..N THEN EXPORT FINISHED COCOA BACK TO AFRICA TO BE PURCHASED. WAA LOOK...THIS FACTORY IS A GOVT ENTITY, NOT A PRIVATE VENTURE. SO GOVT SHOULD HAVE PLANNED AHEAD AND PROVIDED GRANTS TO THE YOUTHS N UNEMPLOYED FARMERS 2/3 YRS AGO TO GROW SUGAR CANE. WE HAVE THE WEATHER N SOIL N IT WOULD HAVE SAVED US SO MUCH MONEY IN FOREIGN EXCHANGE TRANSFERS TO PURCHASE SUGAR CANE FROM CHINA. THIS WILL LEAD TO INFLATION.

"At long last" the komenda sugar factory is seen the light of day. With a line of credit from India and the government's own "component" .1.7% interest is relatively ok.But how did we get here?
Why did government decide finally to embark on this sugar business with a loan from India. Is government sure it has not put the cart before the horse? Rather than encouraging commercial farmers to embark on this venture, the NDC government's seemingly socialist agenda prefers government participation in everything even though the end result may not be pretty. Now where are they going to get the raw materials to feed the factory. We are now going to have to import sugar cane to feed the factory?
Back to speed: In the mid 90's, a group of American commercial sugar farmers came to Ghana to do commercial sugar farming and purchase the komenda and Asutsuare dilapidate factories.Atta Mills was vice President then. These Americans arranged to meet with Atta Mills for negotiations. It was not to be.They stayed in the country for over 4 months. The meeting with Atta Mills never took place so they left. There after, the factories were sold to a "company" who only demolished part of the iron structures and roofing metal sheets and sold them as scrap!
At the time, it was written in a tabloid newspaper the reason Atta Mills did not meet with the American farmers was that a Lebanese had come to set up a sugar import business in the country and some leading members of the NDC were shareholders in that company. Therefore a sugar factory in Ghana was going to be detrimental to their own interests. They published names of these figures in the JJ government.Again there was no substantiation nor rebuttal. The name of the company that bought those factories were never made public either. These factories never saw the light of day either. The chiefs in the area were pissed and I do hope they remember!
So years later this same NDC would take a line of credit from India to set up the factory with no commercial farmers from India?
There are so many questions in my mind. Will ask them later!
