Yes children of lecturers. The answer is to increase intake to 500 in Accra & 500 in Kumasi. This pomposity among doctors will end. They will give excuses because their children will enter even with lower grades

I really agree with your comments. If you get time to google US medical practice with foreign training, you'd get a clear picture. As for the certification, you can always go to pass and you can get those additional courses to backup. But I tell you, in the US, you start to go into the profession right from high school. Major qualifications would include how much community service you have, your military involvements, etc. It's a whole lot of frustration. Upon all these, you start as post doc like Housemanship in Gh for 3 years. Getting a position is another burden because you are basically foreign trained. Employers wouldn't take any chances as far as delivery is concerned. Brothers, it's really hard ooo. And when they realize that your age is advancing from 25, another level of hesitation.
On a light note, kudos for your bravery against corrupt mahama led ndc.

US and European countries don't recognise them and they do the shit jobs there like cleaning tha asses of the aged. Opportunities must be given to all qualified candidates who wish to pursue medical courses, it shouldn't be tribal.

Secondly, I like you to obtain facts and not fiction as regards medical practice abroad. Standards aren't same everywhere. Get that in your mind. Technological resources in US far out run gh, so are the standards of practice.

Of course the brain drain situation may have improved but the picture painted by the professor cannot be entirely true. There is a new resurgence now with a dramatic paradigm shift with a lot of young doctors moving to Southern and Eastern African states with relatively better condition of service. There maybe better condition of service with better remuneration but other factors on the blind side are significantly contributing to the current high attrition rate which are specific or personal rather than general. We know for a fact that nepotism, cronyism, dirty politics, religion ,sexism, ethnic prejudice and hate play a key role in some instances.Selective discrimination and favoritism based on the above stated parameters even applies to postgraduate training.Even the reaction on this platform is talking about wards of doctors not better qualified favoured in medical admission pointing to typical case of nepotism. This phenomenon has been extrapolated to real practice itself where others are victimized either because they don't have biological parents as doctors or foster parents termed as God Fathers or Mothers. We have seen instances where numerous young doctors have been relentlessly pursuit, victimized and persecuted on grounds of ethnicity, religion or social background.Indeed there are some old doctors who still hold on to a precolonial mentality of the medical profession reserved for some elite tribe or families with others unfit to be doctors. That is why somebody like Dr.Akyem Apea-Kubi who have all 4 children as doctors can pursue a northerner right from medical school days to eventually have him sacked. How did it happen? It was a group of Akans including Dr.Ebenezah Appiah Denkyira, the DG of GHS an Akyem himself who fraudulently implicated the young practitioner with a mental illness to have him dismissed through an indefinite suspension in less than a month in office as the new Director General. This is the typical case of nepotism, cronyism and ethnic prejudice and hate we are talking about. This is exactly why we have a high attrition rate particularly in public health institutions by those who feel victimized and persecuted in a mixture of selective discrimination and favouritism.Brain drain still exist but it is more personal than general. The only buffer is young doctors hard done by a discriminative and selective profession finding solace in private practice thankfully with Ghana now a middle income Country.

The second man was married to a phone operator. "Phone operators have sexy voices." Bill thought to himself. The third man was married to a teacher. "Teachers are too formal and strict. poor guy." Bill thought to himself. After their honeymoons were over, Bill got a call from the first man. "NEVER MARRY A NURSE! ALL I HEARD LAST NIGHT WAS 'THAT'S UNSANITARY. THAT'S UNSANITARY'!" he screamed into the phone. A little later, Bill got a call from the second man. "DON'T MARRY A PHONE OPERATOR! ALL SHE SAID WAS 'YOUR THREE MINUTES ARE UP'!" the man raged. After a few more minutes, Bill got a call from the last man. "Remember to marry a teacher, Bill. She kept saying 'we're going to do this over and over again until we get it right'."
