Your point is far better than the IMANI boss' idea. But what can make clear here is we are in certain stage of human civilisation where people who trade brains rather than muscles could survive the next century. So what Mr Cudgoe should understand in the first place is that they not productive because they have not been trained to be one. So putting them in farming wont make any difference until they are trained properly to be productive.

Stupid people can just say you dont know anything about governance, the sector is not productive and stuff like best brain are in the private sector. They don't have foresight. They cannot understand your reasoning. Agric is the best way and the best brain has to help for it to become productive.

This is senseless. Is IMANIsaying that the government should force people into agriculture or what. You can retrench workers but you cannot dictate to them what they should do.

What a myopic argument! Just 600 000 public sector workers and you're complaining? Ghana has a population of almost 27 million and just 600 000 and you think is too much and for that matter people should be retrenched and sent to do agriculture. Mr know-all, what will then be the percentage of Ghanaians in agriculture if your suggestion is taken? The current percentage of tse in agriculture is above 60. Do you know the percentage of Americans in agriculture? That is less than 5 % and yet they can feed themselves and give us sorghum and wheat for free. I thought you would have charged the government to do more in the sector. Last year agriculture grew by 0 % (0.04%). Mr know-all, do care to find out why? Because the government had shaken her responsibilities in the creation of enabling environment for all stakeholders to work to grow the sector. Ghanaian governments over the years (Rawlings to JM) have not been serious with the sector. Even Gen. IK Acheampong did better in the sector than all these modern day presidents. Mr. Cudjo come again!

Looks like he neglected to tell the reporter, and the reporter neglected to ask, how many public servants would be ideal for Ghana given the size of the population; geography; political organization; taxes paid by Mr. Mahama and other high level official; assets declared by politicians; number of political appointees in charge of the civil servants and their competencies, etc.
