Thank you for expressing my viewpoint even more concisely. Nana Addo does not reserve any right to be consulted by the incumbent Government on its Foreign Relation policies, let alone directly by another country's leaders on how it has to do business with the Ghanaian Government.

If there is anything that Nana Addo or any other Ghanaian believes the Government did that contravenes our Constitution, that individual could go to the Court with it. But the Government is the only entity that legally reserves the right to decide on such matters. The Parliamentary Opposition could be the other source of any legitimate request for Government's consultations on matters of this nature. Not the Opposition leader outside of the Parliament.

Akufo-Addo is not a Prime Minister who ought to be consulted for any action the Government is supposed to take in implementing its Foreign Policies. Meanwhile, the Constitution does not include the Opposition Leader in the Executive whereby we ought to expect him to dictate how our Foreign Policies ought to be implemented.

So, I see any contact with Akufo-Addo by the USA Diplomats on the Gitmo issue as only a courtesy, or even more exaggeratedly, as a way to preemptively keep him from making any noises the Embassy expected from him.

And even so, I wonder if that could not have been a prick-of-a-tooth-pick to the Government, when the US Embassy went around the Government to contact Akufo-Addo on that issue.

Some Ghanaians could even draw the wrong conclusions from such contact with Akufo-Addo by the USA, in the sense that many of us have long believed the USA has always preferred the NPP, or the Danquah-Busia-Dombo side of our Politics, to others, and that she always maintains a clandestine favoritism to those Political leaders of the UP/NLM stock.

In that vein, I wonder if the USA would have cared to make a similar contact with, say, the NDC Opposition, if it were the NPP Administration that was incumbent in such a situation with the Gitmo 2. I seriously doubt that.

Yet, Akufo-Addo thinks he is the one whose approval should have been sought for by the USA before bringing in the Gitmo 2. That is most ridiculous and insulting to the Presidency. And we should not tolerate that at all. Opposition Leaders are not nationally elected members of the Government and must not be formally, or otherwise, elevated above our sitting President, no matter who that maybe.

It is important to note that such expectation of the Akufo-Addo cabal has long been a characteristic of his Political campaign. He travels abroad to meet with Parliamentarians and other leaders of Governments of other Nations as if he is the bona fide Head of State of Ghana. He is so egocentric that he cannot see himself any less than the incumbent President, while in Opposition. He wants to be the President so badly he would rather want others to see him as such even before he ascends the Presidency. His minions arrange to have him be received with pomp and gallery by Officials of Foreign countries, even when he visits there as a private individual.

That behavior is deliberate and orchestrated to subtly impose his imminent rise to the Presidency on Ghanaians.

I remember when his Chief scribe in New York, Professor Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., prior to the 2012 NPP Primaries, led an advocacy to get NPP appoint Akufo-Addo as its only official Spokesperson. That was a cunning way of surreptitiously sneak the idea of Akufo-Addo's sole candidacy for the Presidency into the minds of NPP members across the Nation. Such would surely have confused the less politically conscious Ghanaians into thinking by that role, Akufo-Addo had been already designated and endorsed by the Party as its sole candidate. I even wrote an Article to expose that scheme, much to the chagrin of the Professor.

But to sum up, you are very right that the guy, Akufo-Addo, sees himself, and wants to be treated, as more important than the President. Period.

You miss the point. Akufo-Addo would have accepted the Gitmo 2 under much more secrecy, even doing all it could to keep the Opposition out of it, had he been in Power under such a circumstance.

You miss the point. Akufo-Addo would have accepted the Gitmo 2 under much more secrecy, even doing all it could to keep the Opposition out of it, had he been in Power under such a circumstance.

We all know how badly he always wanted to prove to the West that only his leadership could offer stronger, more reliable relations with the West, especially the USA. He would have even initiated such a move to bring in the Gitmo 2 ahead of the US request that he did so.

The only reason he seems to be reticent, now, on that idea, I believe, is because he envies the seeming warm relations the USA, under Obama, is according the Mahama Administration, and might even be angry about that. His ego is bruised by that.

I would like to add, too, that Akufo-Addo's Faction of the NPP has indicated in many ways a certain preference for the Republican Political strain of the USA to the Democrats. And I am not referring to the nominal display of shared emblem, the Elephant, that both Parties have.

The denial of and bruhaha on the US Consultation with the Opposition leader, therefore reflects a more deeply reposed resentment in Akufo-Addo against Obama's dealings with the Mahama Government of Ghana.

In the end, however, the USA remains indispensable to us in our way forward, no matter what Administration is incumbent in Ghana, and Akufo-Addo better learn how to maintain the momentum.

The idiotic writer of this article must bear in mind that the USA would never have taken convicted Jihadists from Ghana Prisons, if they had to be deposited on their land without having had a first and foremost Congressional debate about the convicts. But sadly, guess what, our dumb President of Ghana decided to go it alone and accepted on behalf of the unaware citizens of this fine country two ex-Jihadist convicts for keeps. Mahama is never a good leader otherwise he wouldn't place Ghanaians interest at the expense of the US We are a sovereign entity just like them and our home can't be a dumping place for their rejected criminals.
If the US and Mahama wanted to do the right thing, they should have rather involve parliament. Is Nana Addo or Duncan Williams a parliamentarian?
