Resolving this issue has taken longer than expected. There are still question marks as to why illigal miners should be allowed to access a registered mining concession of a mining company. This to me speaks a lot about the loose systems in place. Strict laws have been made for mining companies, yet we watch and defend illigal miners when they are not just breaking the laws but causing mess to the environment. The government obviously does not care about the mess that these illegal miners are causing to AGA as they loot ore from the underground mine. This should be written in history books as to how the Government of Ghana sat and watch a giant mining company to be taken over by illegal miners. And this is really happening in NDC tenure.. Politicians will do anything for money and fame but they forget that someday they will account for what they did, if not on this earth. The case of Obuasi is a good academic piece to study about the impact and role of government in Galamsey on mining companies.

the first comment is very true of what is happening. The government has to be strict when it comes to illegal mining. It seems the government does not want to temper with votes so they are not ready to tackle the illegal mining issue at Obuasi. That's the dirty part of politics.. but what happens after elections? The government has not been able to create jobs for the people yet they watch and allow the good companies to fail. Its high time we changed government for new improvements in our economy. Allowing illegal mining to operate is not creating jobs for people, it is rather allowing the few greedy and money loving people to steal from what could have been used to benefit a wider group of people. What can illegal miners do to improve Ghana's economy? They will only destroy the environment and pose as security threats because they are alsways armed. Everyone involved in illegal mining should be prosecuted. I wish AngloGold the best and hope the government will intervene properly because all other investors are watching what is happening and they will not the take risk if they know government can punish them like they are doing to AGA for the sake of politics!
