Why has it taken all this time for the Ambassador to declare their views now? Why has the President not publish the terms of their acceptance into Ghana and who are those personalities who gave their green-light.

Nana may not be somebody you support, that's ok, but you have to understand that he's NOT in power so wasn't part of the agreement between Mahama's team that accepted the GITMO 2. The Parliament of all institution was not even part of it, ok?

You could ONLY put COWARDLY and HYPOCRISY on Nana's neck if he was involved but turned around to blame the govt. I hope you understand my point?

Now think about this: The US could not keep them because of security concern but the same US asked Ghana to take them regardless of our OWN security. Why is is it that now the US has sent in military personnel to team up with Ghana military for "security reasons?". Just ask yourself that question and attempt to answer it truthfully.

Back to your point: "informing NANA before the GITMO 2 entered Ghana" is not the same as Nana being a part of the team that approve their coming to Ghana. Informing Nana means EVERYTHING was ALREADY a done DEAL, but they "informed" Nana about what has been negotiated by the govt in power. Now, if an agreement is made to transfer these Gitmo 2 into our country don't you think it's imperative on behalf of the US government to consult the biggest opposition party in the country prior to the transfer, knowing the magnitude of the detainee's story in Guantánamo before the world?

The problem here has nothing to do with Mahama, but your so-called Nana who is claiming he was never consulted and knew next to nothing when the Gitmo 2, according to him, were forced upon us.

In fact, the US ambassador, Robert Porter Jackson is not at all happy about the heightened tension these Gitmo 2 has created for Ghana due to the latest bogus terror threat in linkage with the two. So, if you folk have any unanswered questions, kindly place it before Mr. Jackson and spare Mahama's name over this.

Indeed if NPP knew their coming will incite violence or is dangerous, Nana should have as a serious leader began public debate on this decision and out-rightly rejected the move. Also, he should have told the US a big 'NO'. But wait and see what Nana said at that time when his response is also made public.
If he had rejected the move, 6 moths is enough for Ghanaians to stop the transfer even if the Government is in support. Do you think Let My Vote Count and Occupy Ghana wouldn't have had a field day? Nana's silence is his failure and lies he didn't know about it will be his downfall.

As an opposition leader informing him of a DEAL already signed by Mahama on behalf of Ghana, between our country and the World's "super-power", what could opposition leader do to stop a deal signed, sealed and possibly huge money having changed hands already?

As is done in the US and other democracies, the leader of the largest opposition party, must be briefed about major issues affecting the security of the nation. Nana Addo therefore needed to show maturity and disclose that he was informed, even if his opinion was not being sought. But to come out and say that he was only put in the picture after the transfer was made and not before would have cast Nana Addo as an incredible leader. This impression would have serious repercussions in foreign and diplomatic circles. When hard decisions are needed to be made, it is not always a question of throwing everything to the general populace to decide. That is why we have a president and also leaders of political parties.

Second, this ambassador should not BELITTLE our intelligence by telling us that those individuals whom his own country could not admit for security reason, should be admissible into Ghana nonetheless. What makes him assume US citizens would not be safe keeping them but Ghanaians would?

Third, the last time I checked, The US wanted to station so called African Command Center in Africa, which Africans generally refused. By bringing security risk entities into our land and attempting to, or holding JOINT MILITARY operation with Ghana, does it not take us back to the same ATTEMPT to station the SAME disliked military base in Africa, but rather this time putting terror RISK individual on our land to cause our need of their security "help?"

When will Africa ever have leaders with a real HEAD over their necks as past astute leaders like Kwame Nkrumah, Thomas Sankara, Sekou Toure, Patrice Lumumba and others did?

Now informing, emphasis on informing, other stakeholders is very much quite different from engaging in the discussions to arrive at the decision to host them or not, which decision finally came to light did not even involve the Minister of Interior at the time Mark Owen Woyongo and the Foreign Minister Hanna Tetteh, who both emphatically stated they were not involved in the final decision to host the Gitmo 2.
Akufo Addo has not denied he was not informed but the consent of Ghanaians underpinning this decision and agreement to host the Gitmo 2 was not sought either through the People's representatives or the Legislature or through any form of engagement on any level involving the input of the masses, as pertains to the US.
In the US, this process would have gone through the Senate and the House and from what the world and everybody has observed, the US senate and the House of Representatives including proposed states where more dangerous inmates of Guantanamo are to be held, have rejected them.
So let's not confuse the two about informing and the actual decision taken to house the Gitmo 2, which was a decision taken solely and singly by John Mahama without recourse to the citizenry.
And Ghanaians say, it was a reckless action on the part of John Dramani Mahama as the state of apprehension and tension and the heightened terrorist threat in the country demonstrates.

Akufo Addo's desperation is clearly seen in the way he responded to the Government's acceptance of the GITMO 2 in Ghana as refugees. As we are being told now, the US actually showed him a lot of respect as the main opposition leader in this issue but, he has no value in this. The only thing he values is how to become president. Even here, he does not think it necessary to demonstrate how better he can rule if given the nod but to constantly distract the president and condemn everything he does. In this, his dishonesty and hypocrisy is clear for all to see. For instance he knows very well that if he becomes president, he will not be able to deport the GITMO 2 but he is behaving as if that is what he will do mischievously believing that, their coming is going to collapse the country and so he and his charmed supporters are calling on the Government to ask the US to take them back. This gambling strategy of Akufo Addo has failed because once the light of the truth is revealed as in this case, his dishonesty is clearly seen.

Maybe the question you will want the Ambassador to answer would be was Akufo Addo involved in the decision to bring those inmates to Ghana or not? And if not what would informing him have done after consulting the Foreign Min, who was even not involved in the negotiations and the decision to bring those two inmates?
The reality is they are here and as a result of that decision, Ghanaians are under siege with the threat of terrorism hanging over our collective heads like the sword of damocles, that is the reality.
So instead of trying very hard to actually make John Mahama not to look like the novice that he is, maybe you would want him to take the EPIC GUARDIAN OP seriously because, God forbid should any terrorist attack happen in this country, John Dramani Mahama will resign.

Ghanaians should be asking the United States why it did not disperse the detainees among its fifty states but instead chose to disperse them among African countries.

Afterall, these are detainees of the USA and not Africa's detainees. Was it not the USA and its CIA that were training Osama bin Laden in the mountains of Afghanistan when Osama was fighting the Russians? No African countries were involved in that act. The attention of the Office of Nana Akufo-Addo has been drawn to a news item on some online media portals and on social media to the effect that the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party was “consulted” before, to quote the news item, “the infamous transfer of the two Guantanamo Bay detainees to Ghana.”
According to the story captioned “Nana Addo was consulted before GITMO 2 Transfer – US”, the new US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson, in a meeting with some editors on Friday, April 15, is alleged to have said that “the Foreign Minister and this Embassy consulted about informing other stakeholders and so we did talk to Akufo-Addo before the transfer happened.”
These statements by the Ambassador, therefore, create the impression that Nana Akufo-Addo was “consulted” and thereby had foreknowledge of the transfer of the Gitmo-2 detainees.
For the avoidance of doubt, we would like to reiterate our earlier stated position that at no point during the transaction between the two governments was Nana Akufo-Addo consulted, and the facts of the matter speak clearly for themselves.
On January 5, 2016, the Deputy Chief of Mission/Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Ghana, then acting as Chief of Mission, Melinda Tabler-Stone, called on Nana Akufo-Addo at his Nima residence to inform him, with the consent of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, about the impending arrival into the country of two ex-Guantanamo Bay detainees, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al Dhuby, as a result of discussions between the US and Ghana governments. The day after this visit, on January 6, it was announced that these Guantanamo detainees had been admitted into Ghana upon the authority of the President of Ghana. It would appear that at the time Melinda Tabler-Stone spoke to Nana Akufo-Addo, the two Gitmo-2 detainees were either on their way to Ghana or had arrived in the country.
It would be an unusual use of English, in these circumstances, to suggest that Nana Akufo-Addo was consulted. At best, what can be said is that he was informed of the transaction as it was being implemented, in other words he was presented with a fait accompli, not a consultation.
These are the bare facts of this matter.

You made your agreement with Mahamah for a whole 18 months. The GITMO2 arrived in Ghana on January 6, 2016. A representative from the U.S. Embassy met Nana Addoh on January 5, 2016 to inform him. Do you call this a consultation? What could he do? Does he have any authority to stop them? You guys were looking for some kind of alibi just to say even the opposition were aware. Nana Addoh is not the right person or the right representative to inform or consult in an agreement between Ghana and another sovereign nation. Parliament has that responsibility but not the opposition party or leader. I'm glad Nana came out quick to set the facts straight.
