Dr Bawumia said for example that a runway rehabilitation alone at Kumasi airport cost this country $23.8 million whereas a proposed airport at Ho is estimated at $25 million; and asked sarcastically, “was the runway in Kumasi paved with gold?”

He insisted that given the resources at its disposal, one should expect at least four times the quantum of investment that the NDC claims to have undertaken, saying, “The close to $30 billion of borrowing that was not used for projects could have been used for other critical sectors of the economy.

He mentioned the rail network from Accra to Paga, the water problems, energy, many major road projects in each region, transformation of agriculture particularly in the Northern Regions, Afram Plains and others through investment in machinery, irrigation and dams as some of the projects that the huge amount of money could have covered.

He also said the amount could have been used to build one world class hospital in each region, buy at least 1,000 ambulances, set up factories with the private sector across the country to add value to raw materials and create jobs, equip existing health and education institutions with state-of-the-art facilities as well as build an additional 600 of the Senior High Schools the government is currently trying to build.

According to Dr Bawumia, the reason why he insists the NDC government is attempting to hoodwink Ghanaians with claims of massive infrastructural investments is that “Most of these projects are over-priced as a result of the single source procurement method, which has become the procurement method of choice for this government, as we saw in the SADA, GYEEDA, Karpowership, SMARTTYS bus branding, etc.”

He articulated, “I would like to see for example explanation from the government quantity surveyors of the costing on the Kumasi airport runway for $23.8 million. However, you and I know that they would not explain because they cannot explain.”

He said all previous governments, especially the NPP, undertook infrastructural projects but the NDC is making it look like it has done what nobody did, saying, “The real fact is that the NDC has no real achievements to point to outside the undertaking of some projects; hence, their resort to mediocrity.”

Dr Bawumia also said infrastructural investment was not supposed to be for its own sake but to increase productivity and production in the economy. “If you have indeed undertaken massive and unprecedented infrastructural investment, then why is the economy collapsing?

“Why is the NHIS in trouble? Why is unemployment on the increase? Why are businesses collapsing? Why is agricultural growth stagnant? Why is manufacturing growth negative? Why is the government having difficulty meeting statutory payments? Why the high interest rates? Why the massive exchange rate depreciations? Why are the SADA guinea fowls flying to Burkina Faso? Why the massive increase in utility prices? Why the withdrawal of teacher and nursing training allowances? Why all this suffering in the land?” he asked.

Bawumia doesn't understand why a runway rehabilitation alone at Kumasi airport cost this country $23.8 million whereas a proposed airport at Ho is estimated at $25 million; Someone should tell this man that Kumasi Airport is an international airport with very large runway. A runway is not the size of his bedroom and so he shouldn't expect cost to be low, as compared to the HO Airport which is not an International Airport but a domestic one.

Again Bawumia calms given the resources at NDC's disposal, they should do more. This is a one sided and partial statement. Especially when one considers that the price Petrol which is a major source of income for government had fallen drastically.

Shamefully he spoke about the infrastructure development under NPP and said that the government is making it look as if it was only them who are providing infrastructure. If you provide infrastructure and 5 people share a hospital bed and another provides infrastructure where two people share a hospital bed. Tell me who has achieved a lot and if such achievements are not worth celebrating.

The points raised by Bawumia should be ignored it lacks logic.

There is no constitutional quagmire as to whether President Obama has the power to appoint another person to the Supreme Court. It is clear President Obama or for that matter any President of USA has the power to appoint a Supreme Court Judge when there is a vacancy. The process is that the President appoints somebody and the Senate confirms the appointee.

What is going on is that now the Supreme Court has eight members, four conservatives and four liberals. The Liberals usually side with the Democrats and the conservatives go with Republicans.

With a Democratic President, the Republicans are afraid the Obama appointment will be a liberal or best case scenario, a moderate who will vote with the four liberals so the Republican majority in the Senate are threatening they will not call for a confirmation if Obama with about ten more months of his administration appoints somebody. They want the appointment to be made by the next President hoping that a Republican will win the Presidential elections but Obama will call the Republican bluff and make the appointment.

The Minsiter ws more than right when he compared the two countries. Obama does not impose because the Constitution of the USA does not allow it. But in Ghana the constitution allows the President to take decisions and even with the decisions he consults people who matter. Again you are wrong when you say Obama doesn't impose but Mahama does.

Under Kuffour the country was sent to IMF and declared a highly indebted poor coountry. Kuffour destroyed the economy and left nothing for the late President Mills to work with when he came into office.

Under Kuffour corruption was a shared responsibility and together with his Ministers they wasted over million state money in the name of Ghana at 50 plus they also conveniently shared state bungalows among themselves.

Therefore the same principle couldn't have been applied, Kuffour did not have a government he had a business entity

Over here in overseas, nations that we never thought would have their economy in troubles, we see them confused yet they coperate to better things within because they have no other place to run to. Our nation is full of primitive mindedbess.

In other words we have many educated buffons who lack experience to help better situations SO that they raise the crediibility of our nation in the eyes of outsiders.

As cited by the minister, on normal basis many developed nations with democracy for many many years still sit in confusion with the system they had live with years. Shame unto the USA that talks much but still live with many problems with the democracy they impose on people.

per ur wicked treatment to Ghanaians, u need to compare urself to de likes of Nebuchadnezzar, Adolf Hitler or infamous king Agokoli and not USA and Obama.
der's no perfect govt but der are some govts which try to alleviate de poor from their poverty by introducing sound and proper policies like Health Insurance, Free Maternal Care, School Feeding, Cocoa Mass Spraying, Metro Mass Transit. I could go on and on.
but wat can we say of ur NDC except corruption, greed and theft? Ghanaians will never forgive u for de misery u've put us through.

A student of constitutional law...really? And alludes to a so-called quagmire in the US about the constitutionality of Obama replacing supreme court judge Antonin Scalia who recently passed on at age 79. What is at play is the balance of power as there are four appointed SC justices by democrats and five appointed by republican presidents respectively. Obama is within his constitutional rights to appoint one, just that the republicans want to stall it because Obama is in his last term and the republicans who control the senate can stall it. Watch this space..
Obama will do the appointment in the next week or two and the manoeuvring will begin. This is pure politics and has nothing to do with constitutional law....there is no debate here...i still wonder why somebody culpable of plagiarism can be minister and be addressed as honourable....tweaaa. Don't blame him but the tweaa reporters and/or journalists
