Ghana is paying six times its total oil revenue as interest on the country’s total public debt stock; that’s the computation done by former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“We’ll reach GHC99billion by the end of this year,” the Running Mate to the Flagbearer of the biggest opposition Party said in a post-budget presentation interview with Richard Sky of Citi FM.
“The interest on this debt alone is going to be six times Ghana’s oil revenue,” Dr Bawumia said.
“When we found oil, we were happy that we found oil, but the borrowing of this Government has compromised the whole oil discovery; you need six times our oil revenue just to pay interest on the debt, not even capital, so, it is a really sad development,” he complained.

The president has been saying that he tried to introduce electronic payment and acquisition systems into the public sector {to reduce human contact with cash} in his effort to fighting corruption, but lamented that the systems were often resisted.
This has become so monotonous that Ghanaians are beginning to wonder whether the president is actually serious and interested in fighting corruption as he claims, or it's just another crocodile's tears to deceive Ghanaians into believing that he is making an effort, while the government and its cronies amass billions of dollars at the expense of this struggling HIPC nation.
Why should Ghanaians hire a president that can't even introduce an electronic system successfully into the public sector to save us from criminals masquerading as civil servants? Mr. Mahama must be seen to be fighting corruption with all his might rather than go on lamenting helplessly like the rest of us who hired him to do the job.

President Mahama is not only serious and committed to fighting corruption but also to reduce it if not eliminated. Apart from the electronic payment and acquisition system introduced by government to prevent human contact with cash in the public sector, he is also implementing the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan. the electronic system just like any system is not immune against challenges which has been rectified anyway.

There is no debt-free government in Africa and if you care to know, unlike the NPP whom couldn't manage their debt properly whilst in office which has landed us in the situation NDC came to meet, the NDC government has resorted to new debt management strategies which includes on-lending and escrow account mechanism between the ministry of finance and MMDAs with the view to achieving desirable debt sustainability.

Japan, the world’s most indebted nation, is struggling to emerge from over two decades of stagnation. Greece, second in the list, is suffering a critical economic crisis. According to the IMF.
Since the early 1990’s Japan has experienced continuous stagnation. Recently, policies put in place by the Government to tackle the crisis have tended to push debt levels even higher. Currently, the Japanese Government is spending almost half of its total tax revenue on tackling the enormous debt. In spite of this, the yield on 10-year Japanese bonds remains at a surprisingly low level, under 1%.
Greece has accumulated a massive debt. On 14 July 2015, the IMF released a report addressing Greece’s debt sustainability. The introduction in the report gives an accurate image of the country’s situation:
Greece’s public debt has become highly unsustainable. This is due to the easing of policies during the last year, with the recent deterioration in the domestic macroeconomic and financial environment because of the closure of the banking system adding significantly to the adverse dynamics.
The financing need through end-2018 is now estimated at €85bn and debt is expected to peak at close to 200 percent of GDP in the next two years, provided that there is an early agreement on a program. Greece’s debt can now only be made sustainable through debt relief measures that go far beyond what Europe has been willing to consider so far.
Here are the 20 countries with the highest public debt:

What is wrong with former heads of state and the current president pictures being embossed on a bus? the only thing which i think was wrong was the contract where the company (Smarttys) responsible for the re branding inflated the cost. As a committed president in fighting corruption, he has directed Smarttys to refund some GHC: 1.9 million to the state aside the resignation of the transport minister. lets give the president some credit in his quest to eliminate corruption in this country.

President Mahama loves everybody equally and does not play tribal politics unlike the NPP. The SADA project was a good initiative to accelerate socioeconomic development in that Region but destroyed because of our own attitude which must be changed. JDM has however ensured that those found guilty in the SADA brouhaha face the music to serve as deterrent to those who are interested in destroying the effort of government in developing this country. so you see, JDM does not condone corruption at all...

Cherish and gallant teachers of mother Ghana, you don't need a prophet of God to advise you. Reason up.Just take a look at what he has done, for every little increment it would be made public which would not even be paid but when taxes on salaries are increased the public wouldn't hear that but always making teachers elements of mockery in society. please REASON UP.

What do you expect from a nation which has a person like Akua Donkor as the adviser. Akua Donkor has openly said he advises Mahama and he listens. I am not sure which advisory role she is playing but any role in the absence of more intelligent, competent, learned, more qualified people to give this government an advice has led to the deteriorating condition in Ghana and the nation going backward since Mahama and NDC took over the reigns of government in Ghana. But time will tell.

Since when did Akua Donkor, founder of Freedom party became the adviser to the president? on what basis are you claiming the nation is going backward with the assumption of office by the NDC? Notwithstanding the transitional challenges Ghana's economy continues to expand. The country's GDP as of June 2015 stood at Ghc:133.34 billion from GHC: 30,179 billion in 2008.

This baseless argument is not good for nation building. in terms of honesty, the NDC government is the best as they dont renege on their promises like other political parties particularly NPP. NDC made a promise in its manifesto to build 200 Community SHS which is still in course with some 123 of the schools awarded on contract and will be completed soon. some of such schools have also been completed and commissioned. He promised to fixed the energy crisis in his manifesto and working on that with the Ameri Power plant and Karpower barge on-board. In effect, Ghanaians are enjoying stable power supply.
