This business of smuggling fuel to our neighboring countries thrives on the lower fuel price regime in Ghana. The best way of solving this menace is to sell our fuel at the same price as in those francophone countries.

This is good as long as the government makes profit on the fuel and not subsidizing it.

Because the more people buy (irrespective of them smuggling or for personal use)the government receives it VAT and all other taxes.

Now for people who do not know 4 litres of petrol cost 5€ in Germany which is over 20 GHS. Out of this 80% are taxes.

It is true that fuel is cheap in America. But Germany is a very strong economy. Maybe we can learn from them and use the taxes to develop our nation.

At my last check, last week, Paga had 16+ filling stations and counting! A litre of petrol in Burkina Faso is about CFA685; a litre in Ghana is GHS3.5, on average (about CFA545). What do you expect drivers from the neighbouring countries to do? All the big trucks crossing Paga to Burkina, Mali and Niger, fill up their gigantic double tanks in Paga! And yet we sit in Ghana making noise when subsidies on fuel are removed. Ghanaians should do well to travel across our immediate borders at least once in a life time (not USA or Europe) and learn how to be patriotic.

Who issued the license for these oil companies to site the fuel stations? vehicular concentration is not very high in such small towns so we are importing oil to smuggle and make illegal profit. Greedy bastards ! Ask who owns these fuel stations across the country.

The are 20 filling stations between Navrongo and Paga and new ones are springing up. Who give them the license to open them? Surely government. So you are all involved. Is only God can safe Ghana.

For one to say government should stop the smuggling of fuel to the neighboring countries such as Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote Divoire. People should find out what job opportunities the government has or have created for the people in those towns; Widana, Paga and Sampa. It is the fuel stations that provide employment for the people in the communities. Every filling stations has 8 to 10 staffs and you multiple that number by the number filling stations in the towns. Besides that, the stations pays monthly operational fees to the various district they find themselves in.
