Allegedly an al-Qaeda agent, Hassan Ghul born Mustafa Hajji Muhammad Khan,[1] was also identified as a member of Ansar al-Islam.[2] His nationality was reported as Saudi Arabian,[3] Yemeni,[4][5] Pakistani[5][6] or Egyptian.[7][8] His testimony was a critical factor in identifying the secret location of Osama Bin Laden in Abbottabad.

Captured by Kurdish anti terror and turned over to American forces in 2004, Ghul was stated to have been as lowly as a "courier" who ran packages and delivered letters for al-Qaeda members. Ghul held such high ranks as "top lieutenant", "second-in-command" or "trusted emissary" of everyone from Abu Musab al-Zarqawi to Osama bin Laden to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

He was held at a CIA black site for two years, before being turned over to a Pakistani prison system.[9] It was during this time of detainment by the CIA in early 2004, but before he was subjected to "enhanced interrogation" techniques, that Ghul listed al-Kuwaiti as a close associate of bin Laden.[10] CIA records show that Ghul was not the first source of the name "al-Kuwaiti," which was also provided in 2002 by another detainee, Abu Zubair al-Ha'ili, who was being held by a foreign government.[11] Intelligence agents intercepted a satellite phone call [12] made by Osama bin Laden's bodyguard in 2010 which led to the surveillance of a courier that in turn led intelligence operatives to Osama bin Laden's compound.[13]

Ghul was killed by a CIA drone strike in North Waziristan in October 2012.[14]

Ghul was first mentioned in the 9/11 Commission, where he was stated to have led three people, including Mushabib al-Hamlan, to a waypoint controlled by Abu Zubaydah.[15]

He was captured on January 23, 2004[16] by Kurdish anti terror, possibly associated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan,[17] at a checkpoint near Kalar, at the Iranian border after police sent a fax to American CIA officials to confirm his photograph. There are contradicting claims that he was caught entering Iraq to bring al-Zarqawi money and bomb schematics[18] or that he was caught leaving Iraq bringing al-Zarqawi's progress report on successful suicide bombings into Iran.[7]

Ghul was carrying a USB flash drive and two CDs, one allegedly including a 17-page progress report believed to have been written by al-Zarqawi, claiming responsibility for suicide attacks in Iraq. US Intelligence officials have contradicted the accepted story, stating that the progress report was instead found in an abandoned safehouse in Baghdad.[19][20] In addition, the US military provided the media with "photocopies of the original handwritten Arabic letter" which were then translated, muddying the claim that it had been a computer document.[21] A notebook in his satchel also revealed a number of names and phone numbers of suspected associates.[22]

Kurdish forces immediately turned Ghul over to the American military, and he was interrogated while still in the country.[19][23] Although he may have been cooperative with the military interrogation, his questioning revealed little.[24]

From the above, I wonder which of the Togolese registers is Mr Esse referring to? If what he said is accurate, it means the problem of double registration and foreigners being on their register was resolved after President Mahama's intervention leading to amicable or peaceful resolution by the register being audited or cleaned. If my understanding is right, then there were two Togolese registers (original with foreign names and the audited one without foreign names). Again, if I am right, then Bawuamia used the original register containing the foreign names and not the audited one without foreign names used for the election unless Mr Esse is not telling the truth. This man has rather exposed Bawumia with his intervention.

Why is this man telling Ghanaians to have a new register when Togo audited their register with foreign names and multiple registrations but did not prepare a new one? Is he an adviser to Ghana's opposition party or Togo's opposition party?

NPP should not rely on this man for advice because his confirmation has exposed NPP and Bawumia and in fact, made the claim for a new register weak if NPP is using Togo as an example.

After the naked armed robbery on the 31st December 1981 which resulted in His Butchery Majesty Julor Jato Rawlings alias Gyamfi Paul aka Togbui Avaklasu I the butcher of Dzelukope, raiding the offices of the presidency and seizing the keys to the vaults of the Bank of Ghana and keeping it for himself of 19 good years,the conduct of elections has never been free and fair.

When the good people of Ghana rejected his so-called (P)NDC junta and called for the return to civilian rule, Julor Jato Rawlings nicodemusly changed his (P)NDC into a NDC overnight,selected his apologists as members of the Electoral Commission and used the voter register of the 1986 District Assembly elections as the same register for the 1992 elections.

The gangster regime of the PNDC-NDC did not allow Ghanaians to have a credible voter register for the 1992 elections and instructed the EC to use opaque ballot boxes to steal the elections for them.

They resisted every attempt to have a credible voter register and credible voter ID cards.

After pressure from donor countries and a boycott by the opposition parties in the 1992 elections, these gangster-revolutionaries finally agreed to photo ID cards.

The question any discerning lover of democracy will ask is: why is the NDC always against a credible voter register ?

One would be worried noticing that there are foriegners on Our voters register and would do everything posible to make sure the trueth is establish. however for the NDC they do not care so long us they will win election. we all listened to the man speak this morning confirming that what was presented is the same they recieved from the togolese EC yet People are trying to discredit what even animals see is the trueth. I expect People to begine to think about how to prevent it from happening the NeXT time we undertake a voting register. had we have a credible election comision I would have thought editing would have been the better way to deal With this issue but the way this ashawo woman is handling the issue there will be no proper solution.

In fact there are more NPP registered members in Britain and Germany who have registered and vote in Ghana than any party. So why don't they understand why Ghanaian dual citizens should register in Togo and in Ghana.

If they want confirmed authentication from Togo to their evidence I think using Togo opposition party raises eyebrow and has less credibility than to be desired. Dr Bawumia should know better.

I do not in any tip of my imagination wanting to believe that this article is meant to support the claim by NPP as authentic. This is laughable! Why might it be the Opposition party to attest to it? Even the party in governance's claim cannot be accepted. The simple reason is that, no political party can certify any voter's register in the world over when the Electoral Commission is formed by a Constitution. Yes, the Opposition in Togo can allegedly support the NPP's claim, but it does not mean that NPP is using it as their supporting evidence to the challenge in the Peoples Republic of Ghana. Even if we are siblings, it is only our mother who can tell us whether we are from the same father or not; none of us, the siblings can bet on it. Therefore, I do not think anybody and for that matter, the NPP is laying any claim of support from this article. Now, why did the Opposition agree for their voter's register to be audited but wants Ghanaians to have a new one? What constitutional right does even a ruling party from a different sovereignty has, let alone the opposition, to ask a sovereign state like Ghana to have a new voter's register even if they were to foot the bills for that exercise? The political maturity in Ghana is such that Ghanaians do not easily fall for this kind of Psycho-political gimmicks.

We will vote for the party that will deliver development to the region and the country as a whole. When I look at the Volta region, my heart weeps and keeps asking myself what are we gaining for always voting NDC. We will vote now for parties with development in mind for the region. NDC without Volta region votes will not get 30% of votes in Ghana, yet we are denied every development in the region. Its time for a change and make ourselves the region that decides the winner. Doesn't all this indicate some collusion to get at the incumbency in both Countries by their respective Opposition Parties?

This issue with the Register should have been placed upon the desk of the Parliament to make it less partisan, and more of National imperative.

The more the opposing Parties view it as a mere extension of their partisan feud, the less likely we would ever have any confidence in any form of Register that would be eventually used. Even if we recreate the Register, there could be some NDC folks who might claim certain manipulation by some entities in NPP, for instance, to make it favor their cause. And then what?

I really deplore the silence of the Parliament over the whole issue. It could have voluntarily taken the matter up for conclusive legal and unbiased resolution.

The NDC, however, should have encouraged the EC to create a new Register, if time and money would allow it. In that case, if Akufo-Addo loses again, he would not have any excuse to reject the outcome, and be forever silenced over his unelectibility to our Presidency.

This issue is becoming interesting every passing day. Why are we doing this to ourselves as Ghanaians? Do we as a nation rely on ourselves or others? The way we are going, it will soon become obvious that Ghana will have to use outside institution to do our work for us. If not, why should we behave the way we are going? We don't believe in our own institutions? Would we believe in our institutions if and only if a particular organisation or political party assumes the reins of power? The questions we have to answer are:
1. Like Ghana, does Togo give copies (hard or soft) of their electoral register to their political parties?
2. If yes, why would the NPP tell Ghanaians a particular opposition party avail to it a copy of the Togolese register? Don't forget the Togo opposition is made up of many political parties.
3. Why would our NPP not want to apply to the Togo Electoral Commission for a copy of their register than to an opposition party?
4. Why would our own NPP not name the particular party in Togo so its Electoral Commission will confirm or deny same?
5. Why does our NPP want to embroil Ghana in a tango which in the end will serve no good to either country?
6. The EC has replied to all issues raised by the NPP on the electoral register. So why will the party not avail the EC of its authentic & verifiable source of the the Togo register to put paid this to and fro tango in Ghana? One thing we all should remember is that Ghana belongs to all & it behoves on all of us to hold it together. Whatever we sow today will germinate tomorrow much to our dislike. Are we going to use the coming elections to destroy this nation & when that is achieved over whom & what are we to rule? The world is watching Ghana.

Comparing Ghana's voter register and Togo's register is not right. Togo's register was compiled after 2012 of which Ghana's register was already in existence. Why don't you think it is Ghanaians who rather crossed there to register after Ghana's election but rather the other way?

I blame the media for the rising political temperature in Ghana. How do you verify authenticity of this issue from opposition party advisor in Togo? Can't you rather contact the EC chairperson in Togo? What a hell that you don't even trust your own people (EC) in Ghana but want to rely on opposition parties in other countries?

Also, there are so many insults here and there from the youth in Ghana. Pls, pls pls, let's tone down. It cannot change what is happening and as Christians and Muslims as we are let's avoid insults.

Our EC went to Togo without reps of political parties in Ghana. Did you guys hear the man good when he said people from the two countries cross to either countries to vote during elections time. After failing to display publicly, their contraption they claim can expunge non-Ghanaians from the Voters Register which even their own supporters know is a lie, NPP is still disturbing Ghanaians with their idiotic claims and threatening violence at every turn. Akuffo-Addo even in his Christmas message alluded to this as he's been doing in his speeches abroad.

NPP should know it's lucky to have longsuffering Mahama as the President. But they shouldn't stretch their luck. The rest of the country is getting incensed. We know the capabilities of their so-called military/security advisers including Kofi Koda: Cowardice and dishonesty are part of them.

We glossed over the treasonable things you said and did before and after the last elections because we thought we could teach you a lesson or two in maintaining peace. But we see you're taking the meekness of the rest of Ghanaians as their weakness and spewing garbage meant to sow discord in the country. This time if you start something stupid, we'll take the battle to you and ensure you won't rise from the ashes to disturb the peace of Ghana again.
