Petrol cost that much because you all get free medical care, children allowances, free housing for low income people and other welfare benefits that is not available to Ghanaians.

I can also tell you that I buy petrol in Houston, Texas at some gas stations at $1.59, about GHc 6.00.

Selling petrol at GHana16.00 per gallon is too much when the minimum wage in Ghana is about GHana7.00 a day.

What is the minimum wage an hour in UK? At least 5 pounds an hour. You earn about twice an hour what a minimum wage earner earns the whole working day in Ghana and you are comparing gas prices in UK to that of Ghana, where is your analytical ability?

In the first place I believe considering the fall in comodity prices around the world Ghana's income from these comodities has reduced significantly resulting in a big budget deficit. So money must be generated somewhere to enable the government pay its bills. One method is raising taxes or prices, in this case on fuel products. I personally believe the increase is necessary but not so high at once. The government's communication team should have educated the public about the need to increase taxes and prices. All over the industrialised world there have been increases in tax or cuts somewhere to help in balancing the budget. Ghana cannot continue subsidising the price of petroleum products forever. People say the price of crude oil has fallen globally so the govt. must rather reduce than increase. Why don't these people tell us the truth that the govt. has been subsidising the price? In Ghana almost everything is now politicised abandoning the truth and reality. Don't forget a rich country like Saudi Arabia has also increased prices of petroleum products.
