the below is what JJ.Rawlings mean in short words..
Fighting corruption is not just good governance. It's self-defense. It's patriotism.
Corruption is the enemy of development, and of good governance. It must be got rid of. Both the government and the people at large must come together to achieve this national objective.

Ideals stripped away at early stages of the electoral process, they pad their way to the top with larger bundles of cash. This is not to absolve politicians but understand why they act the way they do. It's because of us. Despite moaning about corruption, we don't hesitate to vote back the same tainted representatives. At times, we vote for cash, TVs or freebies. And sometimes, we don't vote at all.
It is our fault that corruption has become the monster it is today. The politician is an integral part of this problem but not the whole of it. Treating politicians with 'disdain' won't provide a silver bullet to cleanse the system miraculously. Until we fix our tendencies to slip cash and use 'contacts' for licences, degrees and connections, we will never be rid of corruption. We may be rid of politicians though, but find ourselves in deeper trouble.
Like tennis or the tango, corruption takes two. Together, we make a system work or break. Each time you or i pay a bribe for a traffic offence, or grease someone's palm for a railway ticket, we are being corrupt...
Of course there's a quantum of difference between those in power, with the ability to withhold what's needed, and the applicant before them. In that scenario, money sometimes seems the quickest way to avoid hassles, ensure services, escape questioning on why a 13-year-old is driving a car or an unqualified person helming a ship or an office... This is our way of 'getting around' a system that denies us fair opportunities, we argue. But each time we pay a bribe, we break our system a little more.

Kuffuor knows he is responsible for the return of NDc as he dismantled the grassroots machinery of the party just because he wanted to secure Manhyia dominance over all Akans . The result like a lion whose teeth have been pulled made the Npp very ineffective , distrusted among the Fanti speaking Akans and the Twi speakers especially in the Brong Ahafo region . He succeeded in totally alienating the allies of the Fantis such as the Gas and Krobos. Now he sees the true opposition is no longer in the NPP but now freelancing and waiting for political violence escalating into war that NDC intends for us. He continued the corruption of friends family of his clandestine allies JJ/Mahama and now know we the third force will eventually gain power and punish him. Today we notice NDC campaigners now supporting NPP like Sekou Nkrumah under the pretext of anti corruption and incompetence but where we they even last year when most atrocities were being committed.Yes we grow stronger and this year is the year we will boot out all these useless greedy bastards and criminals in rivers of blood. You Kuffuor like your NDC were never loyal to the Akans or Ghanians for that matter. It is not dumsor that will defeat NDC rather the fact that that they are all empty shells with no common sense talk less any empathy for the misery of the people. Since the days of Solomon the qualities of successful leadership are well known. The Romans refined this and had an empire that lasted over a 1000 years and the elements are as follows . A great leader needs be among the top 5 % in wisdom that stems from almost divine perceptive justice , an expect in economics or today's macro economics , a general well versed in strategy and the art of war hence the title commander in chief , genuinely concerned for the welfare of the citizens hence the patriotism that stems from the loyalty to the majority of his subjects not the other way round as we see today etc. Pepeni/ayigbe idiots have no loyalty or love for no one except their own selfish tribalism/hegemony and thats why NDC will always fail as all they can promote is exploitation through corruption. If you cant even fix in peace time dumsor what will happen if there is an uprising or revolution involving millions . Their corrupt ministers are resigning because they need time to properly stash away their loot before the war starts. Donkor was one of the most corrupt and ashawo Dzifa after the port expansion deals and a few other things is one of the most richest women in Africa today. This selfish greedy corrupt minister is only a symptom of this criminal mafia full of anti Akan prejudice and hate. We pointed out last year that all their projects were burdened or tainted by immoral corrupt selfish greedy appetites of the ndc and the kleptomaniac brothers of pepeni omanhene. If these projects ever make it to parliament or the president they are normally half baked very flawed or contaminated as the monies that should have been invested in the project development were spent buying favor or bribing ndc foot-soldiers , bureaucrats , technocrats etc into compliance. Now pepeni realizes he has less than 2 months to actual start something spectacular that if it doesn't win him the elections at least secure him a sizable strong opposition. If there in no success story then NDC will be rejected en mass by the people and fall to 10% of support which will mean that party will never again be entrusted with the helm of government. Most ministers will end up in jail or exiled if there is a peaceful transition , if they cause war almost all of them and their families will die horrible deaths in the imminent cutlass revolution .

I share your opinion that both the giver and the taker cannot escape blame when money exchange hands illegally. Human being irrespective of race is greedy but in a better democracies where institutions work both offenders can not escape punishment. The severe nature of the punishment deter future offenders. We are not different species of human being with inferior IQ. It's only bad leadership which have made us look like one.Obiri Boahen got it right. We need a revolutionary leader and Im wondering if this generation can provide us one, As things stands now these crop of leadership can't take us to the promise land hence we must not be afraid to try different set.

I strongly and sentimentally disagree with the learned lawyer assertion at least on the face of evidence of the devastation multi-party democracy have done to the continent of Africa.Massive corruption induced by the advent of multi-party democracy is glare in Ghana and neighboring countries like Nigeria with extremely weak institutions infected with the corruption virus. In countries like Botswana and Namibia where democracy have been useful in enhancing socioeconomic development, they have strong institutions and leaders committed to fighting corruption.Perhaps one reason for that is the fact that these are mixed race countries reminding me of a book in which a white East African compared the thinking of the black man to that of destructive monkey on a maize farm.In my view multi-party democracy have been very destructive in the west african sub-region by encouraging senseless and heartless corruption with impunity because of institutional paralysis initiated, manipulated and monopolized by the corruption machinery to maintain its sanctity.West African Countries like Ghana,Burkina Faso and Nigeria under military regimes of Jerry Rawlings,Thomas Sankara and General Buhari chalked immense development because these were military leaders who have their people at heart. These were revolutionaries with socialist ideology that ensured social justice and equality in the interest of the poor masses. These were disciplined and incorruptible leaders who instilled a sense of patriotism, nationalism and discipline. These were military leaders who ensured transparency and accountability in the interest of the poor tax payer making corruption a dreaded act to indulge in.Some of us true sons of the PNDC revolution probably grew up with the mentality of a successful youth through hard work and not thievery.Corruption during the days of the PNDC was a mirage people hardly think of not to talk of indulging in.You paid a heavy price if you were found engaging in even petty pilfering unlike today when people are looting millions and billions of the nation coffers unchecked in organized thievery.During the days of the PNDC white collar criminals in public institutions were even scared of kids playing around offices because you never know who will report you but you know you will certainly pay the ultimate price if found culpable of graft.Today you will be an enemy of the state and seen as anti-government if you perform a patriotic duty of exposing graft or refuse to indulge in it.The youth of Ghana today have completely loss their sense of patriotism and nationalism because we have extremely corrupt leaders who are happy to legalize corruption by condoning and conniving in it.They create the impression that the only way to be successful in life is to join the corruption bandwagon and learn the illegal trade of short circuit conduits at aggressive pursuit of wealth.Corruption in Ghana today is the bastion of top government officials and public officers trickling down to the poor man on the street. It is a problem of the very high social class and people in key responsible positions only interested in looting for their personal satisfaction at the expense of the suffering masses who toil to pay taxes for their services. That is why people now own fleet of sophisticated mansions, cars and multi-million businesses locally and abroad without questions being asked. That is why you suffer grave persecution and victimization with your life in danger if you speak against corruption in this country.People who have spoken against corruption have been victimized with a sack from public institutions and have the illegal act tentatively covered because it is an abomination. It is an abomination because high profile public officials with ties to government are the kingpins of the corruption syndicate in our public institutions. It happened to a young medical practitioner at Effia Nkwanta regional hospital who spoke against senseless corruption needlessly killing patients whiles a corrupt management enriched themselves through illegalities. The well documented case of patience sakpetey widely captured in traditional and social media, who died because she could not pay an illegal fee of 50 ghana cedis for blood transfusion triggered the doctor's dismissal from the GHS just because he spoke against it.The corrupt Medical Director vowed to get the doctor sacked from the GHS after wrongly and illegally dismissing the doctor only to lose the case at CHRAJ,western region. The hierarchy of the GHS subsequently fraudulently implicated the doctor with a mental illness and dismissed him on the bases that he refused to have a compulsory assessment and treatment. In fact a letter signed by the DG Ebenezah Appiah Denkyira copied to then Health Minister Alban Bagbin claimed he was suffering from a 'possible delusional disorder' and without bases as he never presented himself to the sham medical board constituted by the Chief Psychiatrist Akwasi Osei, who orchestrated the move in a grand conspiracy to victimize him in support of cronies in the western region. The doctor was sacked through an indefinite suspension with the reason that he refused to have a compulsory assessment and treatment for what a letter signed by the DG termed 'possible delusional disorder. The doctor have his case gagged up in the high court for the past 4 years and have been a victim of massive abuse, harassment and persecution in an attempt to seek redress in court.Series of lawyers employed have extorted money and connived against him in an attempt to kill his case in the interest of high profile persons who engage in an illegal and corrupt act.Even a request for police inquiry into his case to the PRO/IGP at police headquarters following attempts on his life as a result of the court suit was met with deaf ears. All channels to seek justice have been closed with the AG Department conniving to kill his case in the interest of corrupt top officials at GHS with strong links to the corridors of powers at the Health Ministry and government. Even voluminous document detailing corruption in that hospital to then Health Minister Alban Bagbin and his predecessor was swept under the carpet to cover the illegalities in GHS and justify the dismissal of the doctor in the process.Because of senseless and sentimental politicization of everything including issues of national interest and development, endemic corruption in fact criminal in nature will be extremely difficult to fight.So-called democracy often western backed without due consideration of the peculiar problems in Africa of extremely weak anti-graft measures coupled with corrupt and defunct law enforcement agencies, only create a huge avenue of open looting in freedom.Until western countries make a conscious and selfless effort of ensuring accountability by way of strict anti-graft measures and strong law enforcement agencies, persistent corruption, deprivation and under-development will remain as far as democracy remain in Ghana and for that matter Africa.Nevertheless, strong, patriotic and nationalistic leadership committed to the fight against corruption and accountability is imperative in democratic Africa.
