In reality quality education depends basically not on more years in school but instead the quality, meaning depends on the teachers'capabilities to teach with great experience in the basic/primary school education.
Therefore any one of solid and rational understanding of education could tell you confidently that there should be rather good teachers who will prepare the pupils very well so as to use such acquired intelligence to follow up the ladder to the higher education with excellence.
I studied in Ghana from primary school to the university, and we did well with excellence simply because we had a good basic education depending on the school one attended and the quality of teachers available.
South Korea and Singapore used university graduates to teach primary school pupils. What could one expect from these primary school pupils when they proceed to any higher level of education? Naturally their education could be described as quality, hence they will never be expected to spend longer or more years in schools like you hear today of the primitive proposals of longer years in school been argued over again.
A good example is lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata who attended a school with well equiped teachers who were interested in offering good teachings to the pupils in question. My senior cousin and Tsikata attended the same experimental school at Kotobabi in Accra. Today my cousin is a doctor in America.[ A good school and good teachers much needed, and it should be MUST]
Is it the same today in Ghana? Ofcourse NO, because teachers speak TWI with the pupils and even today the primitive minded minister of education Naana Agyemang is encouraging Ghana Education service to teach pupils in primary 1 to 3 in TWI.
Can we then today talk about quality education when people in higher level of education could prefer speaking Twi to English? Do they know THE DAMAGE that they are doing to our pupils education?
You are all primitive minded people of no real interest in quality Education, if not you should be emphazing the need that our primiary education ought to be given the priority with the provision of VERY qualified teachers to handle them so as to lay the good foundation for a good continuation without spending more years in the classroom.

im a humanitarian so i will consider education a ight. now, is QUALITY EDUCATION a right or a privilege? well, this is where the business of education comes in. you have universities and grad programs in canada which cost cheaper than thse in america. u also have ivy lg schools which chrge even more money. quality education is not a right but a privilege.gh is not blessed with quality instruments, educators to teach quality education to the kids. so i think the solution lies in making shs both 3 and 4 yrs. if you want the 4th yr f shs eduation to enter varsity in gh. then be prepared to pay for it. if you dont want the 4th yr option. then do the 3yrs and go to poly n learn a trade and if your grades a re good like b or a average then u can apply to varsity after u graduate from poly.

In this case, does it therefore not make good sense that the duration of education should be extended to enable students assimilate sufficient knowledge from an overwhelming curricula over a longer period of time?
Apart from having to assimilate academic substance most of which is largely alien to the average African student, many of whom come straight out of stone-age living conditions, there is another impediment which is the foreign linguistic means of instruction. Then also there is the cultural structure of education which is also alien to most students.
For the average African student to go through all these impediments and perform well, he/she has to simply cram. This is the reason why our - for the lack of a better word, 'intellectuals' are so inept, confused, incompatible and frankly speaking useless. Those of them who have the head to cram do so with distinction but at the end of the day, they end up becoming sterile and unproductive academics and of very little use to their own societies.
We need to restructure a new educational system that will enable our students to learn and understand what they are learning. A new educational system that will enable our students to understand that they are not in school only to pass exams and move on to pass more exams.

The main problem is QUALITY of teaching/supervision and not QUANTITY--the number of years.
I've met several people from around the world who have 12 years of basic education before their university enrollment.
All in all, we need to ensure that the schools are well equipped with teaching materials as well as good teachers.
If Nigeria/Sierra Leone can do it why not Ghana? Are we dumber than these folks?

It is not dumsor that will defeat NDC rather the fact that that they are all empty shells with no common sense talk less any empathy for the misery of the people. Since the days of Solomon the qualities of successful leadership are well known. The Romans refined this and had an empire that lasted over a 1000 years and the elements are as follows . A great leader needs be among the top 5 % in wisdom that stems from almost divine perceptive justice , an expect in economics or today's macro economics , a general well versed in strategy and the art of war hence the title commander in chief , genuinely concerned for the welfare of the citizens hence the patriotism that stems from the loyalty to the majority of his subjects not the other way round as we see today etc. Pepeni/ayigbe idiots have no loyalty or love for no one except their own selfish tribalism/hegemony and thats why NDC will always fail as all they can promote is exploitation through corruption. If you cant even fix in peace time dumsor what will happen if there is an uprising or revolution involving millions . Their corrupt ministers are resigning because they need time to properly stash away their loot before the war starts. Donkor was one of the most corrupt and ashawo Dzifa after the port expansion deals and a few other things is one of the most richest women in Africa today. This selfish greedy corrupt minister is only a symptom of this criminal mafia full of anti Akan prejudice and hate. We pointed out last year that all their projects were burdened or tainted by immoral corrupt selfish greedy appetites of the ndc and the kleptomaniac brothers of pepeni omanhene. If these projects ever make it to parliament or the president they are normally half baked very flawed or contaminated as the monies that should have been invested in the project development were spent buying favor or bribing ndc foot-soldiers , bureaucrats , technocrats etc into compliance. Now pepeni realizes he has less than 2 months to actual start something spectacular that if it doesn't win him the elections at least secure him a sizable strong opposition. If there in no success story then NDC will be rejected en mass by the people and fall to 10% of support which will mean that party will never again be entrusted with the helm of government. Most ministers will end up in jail or exiled if there is a peaceful transition , if they cause war almost all of them and their families will die horrible deaths in the imminent cutlass revolution .

You can not make such a claim less than 5 years or so after the change. Educational reforms take very long time before their benefits or otherwise are seen. This is how some of you have been making false claims to make your NPP candidate 'win in 2016'. Let us look at the educational system in Ghana from a non partisan lens. That is how we can get to the bottom of the falling standards of our education. Ghana is BIGGER that any political party and any individual. Do not throw dust in the eyes of Ghanains. NDC intension to destroy Ghana's education is the key to getting followers. They believe the more uneducated people we have in Ghana the more they can brainwash them to follow them. If you look across the country, majority of NDC followers are those who do not understand issues to governance. Taking into consideration about 60% of the population who says they rely on what people tells them when it comes to what is happening in the country instead of being able to read and understand is what encourages NDC to continue to destroy Ghana's education so that they can continue to lead the people astray by telling them lies. I am sure when NPP comes back to power they will revert it back to 4 years as Kuffour had it.

I wholeheartedly support the request by the private SHS to revert to the four years so as to improve students performance at the WASSCE. Indeed he current three-year system is not sufficient for the completion of the voluminous SHS syllabuses. It is important to note that candidates do not spend all the purported three years studying for the WASSCE. First, the placement of students in the various schools at the beginning of the academic year is always behind schedule such that some of the students report to school very late to participate in any serious academic work in the first term. Secondly, the academic calendar is always disrupted by sporting events and other co-curricular activities thereby reducing precious contact hours. Yet still, the WASSCE is conducted during the second term of the third year thus students only have a little over two years to prepare for their exams. What's more some of the senior high schools in the country are poorly resourced with reference to staffing, teaching and learning materials, transport system, etc to be able to use the short duration of three years covering the entire syllabuses. In view of the above, it is imperative for our politicians to consider the plight of the poor students and the implementers of our educational policy to revert to the four years system for a better and sound educational achievement.

Pls politicians it time we think deep into the future than a mere political gains. Per what we are experiencing now the three years policy wouldn't help because the wastage of the duration(years). First years for this academic year were placed almost two months into the term to the various second cycle schools. It is only the category A schools that the first years were able to report because of competition for a place unlike the low performing schools and never forget they are the majority. My school for instance only 20 first year students reported for the first term. So such students two solid terms are already out because they will be writing in2nd term in third year.Remaining 2 years a term for their secondary education which other activities will automatically chop off the remaining term leaving two years. Meanwhile the syllabi still remain intact. They were prepared for the three years. So most of these schools students use just 2 years to write for the 3 year programme.

Ridiculous! Is a whole term EVER given to soccer/athletics? No classes at all? Aren't soccer/athletics in the afternoon, after a full slate of classes? That's what it was in our days!! What's gone wrong???

In UK, the children spend 6 years in the primary school, 5 years in high school (secondary school) and 2 years in college ( sixth form). If they pass their exams, they go to university at the age of 18 years. Suffice to say that the standard of education is higher than Ghana's. Why? Most teachers have higher qualifications. For example, in the high schools, most teachers have 1st degree in their core subject. Computers are available in school and at home as well as Internet for homework. Power supply is on 24 hours/ day, 7 days and the whole year, simply put NO DUMSOR.
