In February this year, the NDC Government entered into a Built, Operate, Own and Transfer agreement with Ameri Energy of Dubai for the supply of 10 turbines with 230-250MW capacity of power. The total cost of the deal to Ghanaian taxpayers for the five-year period will be US$593 million, comprising of the $510 million direct cost plus a “variable charge” of $83 million ($16.6 million x 5 years). This is 16.3 per cent of the total cost of the project. Normally, a variable charge never exceeds 2 per cent of the total cost of any contract of this nature. So what explains this astronomical mark up?

These 10 GE turbines, according to industry experts, go for a total basic cost of some $220 million. This, naturally, has raised questions over the justification for the additional whopping $360 million.

The investigations, done by the two foreign journalists, first of all, confirm several suspicions raised by local observers, surrounding this deal, as well as raise questions that have not, and will not be answered by the President’s agents merely issuing statements and press releases. It calls for an open, bipartisan full-scale enquiry into it.

This Fortiz/Merchant bank deal deal from all indications is putrid, it stinks to the high heavens and nothing can justify such an atrocious deal, when Ghanaian taxpayers, from all indications are not getting any VALUE FOR MONEY in this stinking deal. Omane Boamah, MD should seek to explain why an equity firm which cannot even boast of the asset base to even acquire a non-financial banking license, should be made to take on this onerous task of not even a merger, but a full complete acquisition of Merchant bank, when Ghanaian taxpayers, have been offered far, far better VALUE FOR MONEY propositions from identifiable bodies with a portfolio of assets eclipsing over 100 billion dollars? It is indeed mindboggling the level of impunity and recklessness which has been unleashed on the affairs on governance by this NDC gov't. Ghana indeed deserves better than this recklessness which is permeating all facets of governance in this country. It's awfully pathetic.

This is nothing. We will now beguin to show all those past records that are more rotten than you see now. The media is opened now that is the difference...it is not any thing new that is happening in Africa. But it is a good thing. I say exposed past and present goverment deals and let the rot show...so one will make a mistake of thinking any goverment is better. All governments need to change.

We pointed out last year that all their projects were burdened or tainted by immoral corrupt selfish greedy appetites of the ndc and the kleptomaniac brothers of pepeni omanhene. If these projects ever make it to parliament or the president they are normally half baked very flawed or contaminated as the monies that should have been invested in the project development were spent buying favor or bribing ndc foot-soldiers , bureaucrats , technocrats etc into compliance. Now pepeni realizes he has less than 2 months to actual start something spectacular that if it doesn't win him the elections at least secure him a sizable strong opposition. If there in no success story then NDC will be rejected en mass by the people and fall to 10% of support which will mean that party will never again be entrusted with the helm of government. Most ministers will end up in jail or exiled if there is a peaceful transition , if they cause war almost all of them and their families will die horrible deaths in the imminent cutlass revolution .

These labels are sticking. The aim is to use these catch phrases to win the election. But what he does not appreciate is that the labels once stuck will take a long time - more than 10 years to erase. So assuming He wins the elections and becomes president in 2017, he will be ruling a country tagged as corrupt for the terms he will serve. May be he has not thought about it. Ghana will continue to be tagged corruption ridden the more our so called leaders continue to blow it on the rooftops and airwaves. Even here in the UK there is corruption and yet you do not get politicians making it headline news. They have in place systems and institutions dealing with it. In Ghana we have the institutions in place. What our politicians should be doing is to suggest how the institutions should work to bring down corruption. The idea is to create a country every aspiring president should be proud to lead.

Few Ghanaians would take Nana Akufo Addo serious when one talks about corruption in Ghana. First of all, this man was Ghana's Attorney- General under President Kuffour and he did not do anything about corruption. He should tell Ghanaians which laws he made to curtail corruption.The problem in Ghana is our institutions are very weak. In a democracy you need strong institutions to help fight corruption. For corruption is in human beings when given the chance in any part of the world there are always people who want to steal or cheat. So if there are no laws against corruption and the people who are supposed to help fight this canker are also not there, then how are you going to succeed? In Ghana we lack honest and deligent people to fight corruption. Everyone seems busy with himself as to how to survive when life is really hard. But we all forget we have to share the national cake fairly in order to eradicate poverty. When you loot or mismanage the problem is only shifting for the next generation of people and there will be no end to it. So Nana akufo Addo should tell us how is going to root out corruption and explain to us what he actually did when he had the chance as a minister responsible for fighting corruption under Kuffour. Merely criticising the current govt. is just a political talk, and cannot be taken serious.
