Kwakye is talking as if ECG, VRA etc., are not also government enterprises -- just as government supports government agencies such as education, health ministries etc., so it does for VRA and ECG. Even though ECG generates income for the government by selling electricity, it hands are tied by government so end up not making a profit. This is the same reason why government enterprises like Ghana Airways, Black Star line, factories went out of business. I am sure government officials pay when they board the privately owned local flights or use government furnished cell phones, therefore the companies make profits.
It is evident that government enterprises are inefficient and unprofitable and that is why they need to be privatized. It is a vicious cycle - ECG can't collect money from government or charge to make a profit so fall on government for maintenance and subsidies. The explanation from Kwakye does not make sense since government owns ECG. Seriously, where do you draw the line? And that is why there is so much wastage of electricity etc., in government owned buildings/institutions because the government simply ignores electric bills sent to them for reasons Kwakye explains.

The irony part of the whole thing is that these Foreign Companies will never allow foreign companies to owe utility bills in their country. In Germany for example, a foreign company which default in payment of a utility bill will be closed down the day it is discovered. ECG should therefore go and collect their money from these foreign companies and stop worrying the Government.

Let me get this straight:

ECG is indebted to the government of Ghana since 1977 (I guess Kwakye was not born by then), so the government uses power and decided not to pay the ECG. But the government is about to hike how much poor people pay for power.

OK, for the sake of argument, let us stretch Kwakye Goebbels' logic a little bit further: that is, Ghanaians will also decide not to pay for power because the government owes them for promising heaven and delivering hell.
