Bad leadership in Ghana was started by Nkrumah. In fact all our problems started with him. Nkrumah was a dictator and very ambitious. He introduced one party rule in Ghana and made himself life president. He was neither caring, compassionate, visionary, smart nor politically savvy. Most of the things he took credit for had been started by the British, our colonial masters. For instance Tema Motorway was on the drawing board when he took over and Akosombo Dam was not his brainchild. KNUST was established by Asantehene and the British. Surprisingly, most of the things he takes credit for were never initiated by him
Independence, for instance, was sought for by many and achieved under the aegis and cunningness of Kofi Nwiah, trickster and schemer extraordinaire. Well, all along I have been asking how and under what circumstances "Francis Kofi Nwiah" was able to change his name to "Kwame Nkrumah". I know that it is permissible for anybody to change his name anytime he or she wishes but it is strange and beyond comprehension for one to change his birthday from Friday to Saturday ie from Kofi to Kwame. This is what makes me suspicious of Kofi Nwiah or Kwame Nkrumah. He claimed that his date of birth was 21st September 1909. This day according to the 20th century Calendar was a Tuesday!!! So was Nkrumah born on a Tuesday, a Friday or a Saturday? We must find out what he was up to with all these very strange findings. He was indeed cunning and only preyed on the emotions of the Ghanaian masses. It was my wish that president Mills would set up a committee to investigate before declaring Nkrumah's "unknown" birthday a holiday.
When he took over we had trade surplus running into millions of Pound Sterling but when he was forced out we had a trade deficit of several million pounds sterling!! This was the result of bad governance. He should have been overthrown earlier than 1966. We all saw good governance under K4. To me K4 is the best president Ghana has ever had. Kuffour is the greatest. We thank Kotoka and Afrifa for stoping the dictator in his tracks. Ayekoo Kotoka and Afrifa. Kotoka AirPort should never be renamed.

Oh mine! Such a delusional, imbecilic, brain washed psychopathic LIAR. Pea size brain, FYI: Ghana's long term DEBTS inclu. other 3rd. World countries were forgiven and completely WIPED out by their borrowers initiated by US under Pres. Clinton for these countries to start anew with ZERO $$$$$ debt to their debtors of which corrupt, cocaine, greedy, Kuffour benefit during his so-called presidency. IDIOT, if you don’t owe anyone on this planet, you can do a lot for yourself and your country yet; if your burden with DEBTS there’s little you can for yourself and your country. With your pea size brain which is NOT even developed, you NEVER had the basic intellectual or thoughts to deduced this for yourself than being by your slave masters.
I bet you will FALSELY say or claim that GH’s Akosombo Hydro-Electric Power, Tema Motorway and the industrial city of Tema was NOT initiated and built under the GREAT leadership of Dr. Kwame Knkrumah ..... right whilst your evil, demonic Abrefa Busia, Akufo Addo, Gyedemah, JB Dankwah, Mama Tula etc. etc. were very busy at work instigating violence and throwing bombs to destroy GH? You should be ashamed of your stupid primitive, backward self. Whew! Some IDIOTIC, imbecilic, Punk!

The so-called professor that tried to embellish Nkrumah's economic record needs to go to School all over again. These types of socialist arguments could deceive Ghanaians in the 50s and 60s, but they cannot do so now. Nkrumah was the first leader to introduce unsustainable debt into this country by borrowing massively and unnecessarily to finance his whims and caprices. It was a misfortune that we had such a person as president immediately after the independence. He didn't lay a realistic economic foundation for sustainable development of the young nation at all, considering the amount of money that was at his disposal in those days.
Ghana had about one billion dollars in reserve when Nkrumah took over the reins of government from the colonial master. Could you imagine what the value of 1bn dollars was in the early fifties? Again, after 2years of his rule, cocoa prices at the world market rocketed and increased four-fold. But contrary to any sound economic planning, he did not reserve any fraction of the windfall for a rainy day, as the Whiteman had done with only one fourth of the revenues he got from cocoa. So, what did Nkrumah do with all the revenues he got from the astronomical cocoa prices, and the big reserve he inherited that took many years to build for our financial stability and sustainable development?
The man just went on a spending spree both in Ghana and around the world, throwing his weight about and talking big. So when the cocoa prices fell close to the end of his rule, he was quick to point accusing fingers at the West, blaming them for manipulating cocoa prices to sabotage the economy of Ghana and overthrow his government. Finally, after misusing all the money mainly on useless prestigious projects, failed communist agricultural projects and whimsical mad rush industrialization projects that did not withstand the test of time, he also burdened the young nation with another billion dollars' debt before he was forced out of the country.
The truth is that, Kwame Nkrumah met a rich and confident country with stable economy, and left it nearly bankrupt in some few years as a result of gross mismanagement.

Idiot, not only that; without ANY Power plant grid to generate constant, reliable electricity; NO country on this planet can generate any manufacturing based sustainable employment for its citizens and unemployment youth no matter what skill set they have. Kosai, ofui, if Akwasi broni wishes to set-up a manufacturing plant in GH; the first thing he or they look at is whether the country GH has continuous sustainable energy and reliable power grid to run its manufacturing plant non-stop 24/7. Ghana to this day have fallen shot and way behind in building additional more advanced Power Plant other than Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Akosombo Power Plant built years ago when most of us were either not been conceived by our parents orb been born or were toddlers. Without ANY new advanced, reliable, sustainable Power Plants in GH NO Akwasi broni will like to set-up any business or manufacturing plant to alleviate the massive unemployment crises in GH ………. Period. Get that thru. your clogged banku head.
My company built a 20-mile advanced Power Plant for China years ago and within 5-yrs. after its commission have taken over the World including the country of US. You set foot in any US stores and you realized 96% of the items on display were Made in China including ALL house hold items. Hardly can you find remotely anything Made in USA in any stores in US. Your argument is primitively shallow coupled with the brain that of 2-yr. old. The country GH currently needs to borrow more to meet its Energy crises to be attractive to foreign investors to build manufacturing plants in GH like Dr. Kwame did else; the country GH and GHs are doomed for forever and will slaves to the World and foreigners in GH itself. Even toilet paper have to be imported after the overthrow of Dr. Nkrumah. What a Shame!

The academia in Ghana in case you don't know is full of corrupt elements just like most pastors. If you were enrolled in any post - graduate programs in KNUST, lEGON, UCC,etc then you will understand my point. Lecturers deliberately delay and frustrate students with their research theses just because they have not given a bribe.
Those who sent some gifts to their supervisors have quick feedback and were able to graduate within the required period.
Now they are openly showing that a - two -year program could take you five years if you fail to do their normal thing ' bribe'.
Is this what members of academia in Ghana should do? As for the private colleges, the least said about them the better.
Buttocks for grades. Anas must move into academia to expose those corrupt lecturers most of them are the young Doctor ( PhD) not the professors because most of this corrupt practices involve those with PhD
I shall return

Ghana did not have trade surpluses under the British because we were the Gold Coast with minimal developments not Ghana. Second you and Nkrumah haters can't seem to know the truth about your own unadulterated lies; you claim Ashantihene started KNUST while Dr. Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe makes the claim KNUST was Nkrumah's in the make that is why it's lagging behind Legon which is it? Now even you Adade should have figured it out by now that with Ghanaians of your kind a multi-party system would have paralyzed Ghana and mitigated development in Ghana had Nkrumah not had the unparalleled wisdom and foresight to institute a one party system to get things done. Guess what was he not right; look what is happening under the wonderful version of multiparty system which ushered in tribal organizations masked as political parties with the sole purpose of promoting tribal preferences and stealing funds to shore up tribal projects. Finally I will presume you are a classroom educated Ghanaian who toil in the Diaspora like everyone else. Why do you think there is something called literature review as basis for most thesis or dissertations? Accra-Tema motorway plans on paper does not make it a reality Adade it took Nkrumah to make it a reality. Remember til this day there are idiots claiming it was a waste of money because you and others would rather go for the cheap things preferred by kokoase thinkers. So you see you can let Nkrumah jealousy and hate eat you from the inside but no one will know you as they do with Nkrumah; it takes people with foresight and wisdom which is lacking in Nkrumah haters.

@Prince i am very very disappointed that up till now you have not seen what the absence and effect Dr Kwame Nkrumah have had on our country and Africa as a whole. I am telling you if Nkrumah had his way and was allowed to continue with his vision and plans both for Africa and Ghana you wouldnt be sitting down there and anticipate your electricity being cut in the middle of the night. The country is doomed with fraudsters, bribery, corruption and total dishonesty and lack of trust from every angle of the establishment ie the police, army, judiciary, civil service and elsewhere in the country holding Ghana back and forth without fulfilling its most important goals. You talk about one party state, why do you think that was the only option felt by Nkrumah it was so because all those reasons behind that ideaology could be seen visibly in and around the establishment. During those era there were chaos, subvertive activities, planned assassinations and other confusing elements leading to distrust as to who was who to be trusted. If you know and have read about the history of Ghana during the turmoil leading up to the independence from the colonial rule there were back stabbers, betrayal from trusted people one could never have thought they couild do such things. Nkrumah went through hell trying to make the country Ghana the best in Africa and make Ghana a better place to live. It was during Nkruma,s leadership that we had a free education for every household rich or poor. Vast majority of Ghanaian citizen who came from virtually poor background were able to have education to a reasonable level and some to the highest, most of this people have developed from there and have reach somewhere they could never have reached had it not been the visionary of Nkrumah introducing the free education programme. I am not saying Nkrumah was an angel and perfect but at least he set Ghana to meet international recognition only to be betrayed through disloyalty of people les patriotic to help in fulfilling the goals and objectives of Nkrumah. Think about the Tema Harbour and the dry dock corporation, the Akosombo dam, the 3 universities in Ghana arguably one of the very best in Africa, the motor way which makes travelling from Accra to the heart of Tema port made easy and user friendly. It was a scramble for power from people who wanted to be seen or heard also in the international arena based on jealousy and other trivial reasons just to make fame and since then where and what has Ghana achived now only to be constantly gripped by dumsour and dumsour and dumsour, chaos at its highest, bribery taking centre stage, robbery and all sorts of immoral activities holding the country back. In order not to be biased you need to analys all the advantages too not the disadvantages just because you hated him does not make him a complete thrash. Be grateful for Nkruma,s achievements you wouldnt be able to read and write today.

Out of this 'mess' Nkrumah inaugurated Akosombo dam a month before he was overthrown.
Job 600, Tema harbour and Drydocks, Accra-Tema Motorway, Komfo Anokye hospital, KNUST, Cape Coast university, Ideological institute which later became University of Education, Winneba were all built. Education was massively expanded with the establishment of the GET fund, and free compulsory primary education introduced. Agriculture was industrialised and many industries set up to process raw materials.
TV was introduced for educational purposes.
Nkrumah famously declared that 'We neither look left nor right, we look forward'. Nkrumah was friends with President John Kennedy who was instrumental in Ghana getting the loan to build Akosombo Dam. Nkrumah had wanted to use his links with both US and China to bring an end to the Viet Nam war. He was on his Peace Mission to end the war when he ws overthrown.
None of our leaders comes anywhere close to Nkrumah.
Let us stop misrepresenting the past and distort history fr little development.

What rubbish! It is so strange and amazing that a person like you who quite strangely has the ability to piece together letters of the alphabet to make legible words and sentences, can be so daft and obtuse.
Kwame Nkrumah was certainly not ready to tolerate stupid views like breaking up the unity of Ghana into ethnic confederations and are we all not happy that he stuck to his guns?
Are we all not happy that he did not tolerate the rise of terrorism by people like you and the bigoted UP/NPP anarchists over 50 years ago?
Are we all not happy that our own blood brother Kwame Nkrumah, is the only leader in world history who liberated and emancipated the greatest number of human beings who had been enslaved, colonized and tyrannized by the capitalist/imperialist despots of the world for several hundreds of years? Your incipient ability to string together letters of the alphabet to make words is due to the enabling environment that Kwame Nkrumah created for all Ghanaians. But your ingratitude prevented him from staying long enough in power to ensure that people like you could be psychologically empowered to make sense out of the words that you write.
Kwame Nkrumah did not put Ghana in the middle of any two imaginary elephants. Every discerning Ghanaian who is not blinded by the vicious poison of ethnic and petty political narrow-mindedness and intolerance knows that Kwame Nkrumah was non-aligned, fiercely nationalistic, Pan-Africanist and anti-imperialist. If it is because of this that a nun quam like you can shamelessly say that he put Ghana in bad stead - obviously to the inconvenience of your adorable slave-masters, then so be it. Some of us, like Kwame Nkrumah, have suffered enough of being oppressed and tyrannized by your power-drunk, 'multi-party', 'democratic', exploitative and racist oppressors for the past 500 years and if that does not please you, then my friend, you can simply go to hell where you obviously belong.
I will leave you with a couple of quotes that I had occasion to impart, yesterday, to another person who like you, obstinately appears to refuse to wake up from the self-defeatist slumber of imperialist diktat and subservience.
“.. it is more honourable for a man to die living on his own two feet, than to live on his knees as a slave”.
“Ignorance and obscurantism have never produced anything other than flocks of slaves for tyranny”.

Strong partisanship started in Ghana when Kwame Nkrumah divided the nation into two: Patriots and traitors. Patriots were those who accepted that he should be president for life, practice one party state and communism and indulge in Leftist anti-Western propaganda using the small country's meager resources to challenge centuries' old, well-established Western countries. They even accepted that he should act as a savior of the Blackman around the world, while tyrannizing his own Black people at home because they have alternative views for development of their country.
Those who wanted him to concentrate more on the basic needs of the young nation and tone down his rhetoric against the powerful were called traitors, reactionaries, and agents of imperialism that should be liquidated and imprisoned dead or alive. Could you believe that the opposition members he was tyrannizing were the very people who started the struggle for our independence? They employed Nkrumah and paid for his ticket from the UK to come and work as General Secretary of the group, saving him from the tyranny of being unemployed in London. The independence struggle vanguards were senior civil servants in the Gold Coast. And as their struggle was gaining momentum and scope of the activities widening, they needed someone to work full time for the group; free from official work constrains to further spread message of the struggle.
Under their responsibility and protection, Nkrumah used the platform to become a public face of the group and his popularity soared. This was because, many people in those days perceived him as the person or the only person that was fighting for our independence. Subsequently, when he heard from the Governor General's female secretary, who was later sacked, that the British had been preparing to grant us independence, he increasingly used needless militant tactics to provoke the Whiteman, when it was clear that the wind of change was blowing, and also embarrass his employers in order to outsmart them. He then used the opportunity to break away from them, forming his own party and slapping them from behind to take power.
This explains the strong partisanship in the country and why Nkrumah didn't want the Liberation Vanguards to ever come to power in his life time. Maybe, he was afraid of his own ghost. Unfortunately, and despite all these facts, his supporters still want us to believe that he initiated, spearheaded and single handedly fought for our independence, and therefore name every national project after him as if we were in a kingdom.

Opayin Karikari, why did the people of the Gold Coast reject the Mate Meho terrorists (NLM-UP)led by Baffuor Osei Akoto,Danquah,Busia,Obetsebi-Lamptey,Mallam Tula and others - at the polls before and after independence? For instance,Danquah was soundly defeated in his own Akyem constituency by his nephew and ex-wife
(in 1952 and 1954)who represented CPP.And these two elections were held under the supervision of the British. The CPP won all subsequent elections after independence - though some were boycotted by the opposition party. This brought about the one - party state.
Malaysia and Singapore are practically one-party states,as the governing parties(National Front in Malaysia and People's Action Party in Singapore) have been ruling since they attained their independence - in 1957 and 1959 respectively.
FYI Lee Kuan Yew(Singapore)and
Tunku Abdul Rahman(Malaysia)were also labeled dictators by their violent opponents, like the NLM-UP did in Ghana. Infact, these two leaders were more brutal than Nkrumah, and they made Osagyefo look like a high school kid.Three thousand Malaysians died in the civil war precipated by the violent opposition.
Both Malaysia and Singapore passed Preventive Detention laws and thousands of REBELS,TERRORISTS and TRAITORS were detained.Malaysia still has some of the laws in force.
Today,Rahman and Yew are revered and considered founders of their respective countries; praised nationally and internationally for transforming their countries into prosperous societies - with highly educated citizens. Wasn't Nkrumah shooting for the same goals before his violent opponents and primitive tribalists - together with their cohort overthrew him?
And by the way,who told you that each country is an island to itself in this world?("WE LIVED IN A WORLD WHERE WE HAVE EACH FOR HIMSELF AND GOD FOR US ALL") Opayin Karikari, how could you subscribe to this nonsense?
Nkrumah,Yew and Rahman were friends and members of the Non-Alignment Movement(NAM)which was formed during the Cold War.Ghana was not a member of the Warsaw Pact nor NATO.So what was wrong with Ghana staying out the supper power politics and aligning itself with neutral countries like India,Indonesia,Malaysia,Egypt and Singapore?
So Ghana is suffering now and Nkrumah is to be blamed. What a stupid reasoning! Nkrumah has been gone for decades now and the NPP Government led by Kufuor, was the largest recipient of foreign aid in Ghana'a history. And you blame Nkrumah for the thievery and corruption that dissipated almost all the funds meant for the development of this country?
Infact, some of you folks - children of Mate Meho tribalists and terrorists - need re-education.

We should stop behaving like crawling children, cast our memory back and reason before jumping into some foolish conclusion that Nkrumah alone could emancipate this huge continent of Africa from the British, French, Belgium etc.
I do not think that all the African leaders at that time, were all admirers of Nkrumah so, what are we talking about? We should stop crying over spilled milk and think of how we can manage the resources in our various countries to the benefit of all and sundry.
We should uphold the rule of law and let the laws respects no one.

What most Ghanaian and Ghana well-wishers around the world have perceived all along has been confirmed by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. It is that; "Nkrumah could have achieved more for Ghana if his tenure (in office) had not been cut short considering his level of commitment towards the development of the country.
The sad irony is that the devil and the enemy of Ghana's progress are still at work to delay Ghana's socio-economic advancement - even though their predecessor had long since died and buried! The constant bickering against anything the present gov't tries to do helps to delay the economic and infrastructural development of the country. Siting workers and professionals to go on strike; peddling lies among the electorate because of the disagreement with the gov't and encouraging anti-gov't antagonism foster delay to get a job done for the country. NPP means NO PROGRESS PERMITTED.

The corrupt academia in Africa have contributed largely to the problems of development in Africa and especially Ghana.
The academia in Ghana in case you don't know is full of corrupt elements just like most fraudulent Ghanaian pastors.

Hi guys it looks as if most of us are narrow minded. We all know that Nkrumah pronounced independence for us, no doubt about that. Lets look at post independence Ghana through this scenario. Let us look at the scenario this way. Imagine Nkrumah used all the little that the Colo masters left for Ghana to train Ghanaians to be engineers, import more investors, build factories that wilkl manufacture cars as South Korea, China and the wise developing countries are doing now, dont you think Ghana then would be better off than the South Koreans now? Supposing Nkrumah did not use our money to make "Afekubo", that is to say giving our money to Nigeria, Guinea, Egypt, Algeria and the rest of the African leaders only to buy their support to be the 1st President of a United State Of Africa. That was like building a Castle in the Air. The then African leaders yelled a big YEAA to that Nkrumah only to suck Ghana's rich wealth. Look at Nigeria they were in the Biafra war and came to Ghana to seek political asylum in Ghana. While in Ghana the Nigerians received free education, learnt hyegien, manners and so on and so forth. Some of their renounced leaders and military men received free education in Ghana. After the Biafra war, things turned around for the Nigerians and their then president Gowon called the scattered Nigerians to go back to rebuild the country. Busia who became the prime minister in Ghana in 1969 asked aliens to comply with the laws governing the country.......... The aliens compliance order. The Nigerians became very offended by the orders and when things went bizzar for Ghana during the military rule in Ghana, the Nigerians considered this to be a payback time for Ghana. They were killing and burning Ghanaians alive. Some of us may be victims of the Nigerian oppressions of Ghanaians. They have even coined the phrase in their households "Ghana must go" That is the United State of Africa which Nkrumah dreamt about. Not only Nigerians threated Ghanaians bad, now lets count the countries,... Algeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast Togo, to finish the counting will consume all the space and our time. The latest is the resent South Africa Xenophobiaizim. Did we ever see any African leader continue from where Kwame Nkrumah left in the dream of the idea of the United State of Aftica??????????????????. Those other African natives who will talk about the good work of Nkrumah only think about a president who was spraying Ghana's wealth to other African leaders, not a dictator who was imprisoning opposition party members in detention without trials. Wise up mennnnnnn. yyyyyy
