NDC party has never accepted that there was any mistake in the voters' register. In fact, they said it was clean, credible and ready for use in the 2016 elections. Now, and after the stakeholders' overwhelming agreement that there were flaws in the register, and the proofs presented by the NPP that the register was bloated and tainted with all kinds flaws, they can no longer cling to those malicious denials. Instead, they are now calling for cosmetic changes to be made to the voters' register that would still allow them to rig the elections without tears.

It's a good idea but having an enlarged strong room fitted with cameras and sophisticated gadgets won't help stop bloated register or registering of minors. Why is the EC trying to fool Ghanaians? The first step to take towards having a free and fair elections is to have a genuine voters register. So far, the EC has made it clear that it does not give a damn about compiling a new register, but rather stick to the bloated one that the NDC have managed to their biometric register. It's not sufficent to have all those new electronic stuff in the strong room while it's clear that the register itself is bloated.

NPP should show less emotion and more maturity as a seasoned political party by allowing the process to take shape. They should not bring their infighting attitude and bickering and confusion taking place within their party to the electoral process and the elections. Ghana deserves better than that.

Jettisoning the strong room will go a long way to ensure transparency. At least the openness that will result will allow access to stake-holders and designated observers. CASE IN POINT: During the referendum on UNIGOV, in the Acheampong era, all persons except specially selected staff were cleared by army officers from the strong room after counting and before the results were announced. The counted results were then doctored to give Acheampong a winning result. I believe that NDC observers threatened NPP observers over some malaise that the latter objected to in the strong room. Vigilance and transparency both at polling stations and at the final counting and declaration of results would go a long way to ensure credibility in the results of the 2016 elections.

The strong room is where the results of voting are tampered with. Here in the U.K. votes and results of voting are counted and declared in large open room and building with access to all: candidates, the agents, party reps, electoral staff. if there is only a small difference in the results for candidates, which could lead to disputes, a re-count is done there and then in the open, NOT IN A STRONG ROOM, in a peaceful manner. Voting here is done openly and efficiently so that hardly any dispute results form elections here. Among other things, voting in Ghana is characterized by inefficiencies, delays, equipment break down on the part of the EC and its staff. Even where the above occur, transparency will allow voters to live with the outcome because no system is completely perfect. Our voting systems though should be fit for purpose. Charlotte said that the accuracy spec assured by her equipment suppliers is 99.98%. That is .02% error in results is acceptable. Now if you even double the .02% to .04%, then consider our voting population as 15,000.000, then any error over 300.000 calls for a legitimate complaint.

If in Ghana voting is only on the basis of citizenship, then it must only use proof of citizenship to allow voting. If, however the law allows other proof, then these criteria must be clear and understood by all. At the moment the criteria are not clear and understood by all, perhaps even by Charlotte Osei nor her staff, and doubtlessly even by you, sonkrosuo.

What it means is, the results from the polling stations right through to declaration should be jealously protected in it's accuracy and correctness.
The elections will be won or lost at the micro-level ie the polling stations, although it cannot be ruled out completely that, along the line there could be attempts to rig it.
Vigilance is thus key, along the whole value chain, and they all need to be opened up with greater scrutiny, transparency and openness from the electorate, right from the polling station to the EC, before declaration.
Strong room concept connotes strong man concept and all it's ramifications in terms of influencing the vote.
Kudos to the EC for killing that concept of rigging and bastardizing the sanctity of the vote.
