NPP consults UK over voters' register

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has held two separate meetings with the Rt. Hon. Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State International Development and Hon. Geoffrey Clinfton – Brown MP, the outgoing Chairman of the Conservative Party International office.

The meeting was to emphasise on the need for the United Kingdom to support Ghana’s electoral reforms and his party’s call for a new voters’ register.

Mr. Agyepong stressed that his party has uncovered various discrepancies such as double registration, registration of minors and the inclusion of foreigners from neighbouring countries into Ghana’s voters register.

He noted that the evidence adduced by the NPP which has been provided to the Electoral Commission of Ghana is compelling and of monumental proportions.

He also called on the international community to help enhance the democracy in Ghana by ensuring that the 2016 general elections are conducted in a free, fair and credible manner in the essence of protecting the true and valid will of the people.

The two top government officials in the UK, on their part, thanked the General Secretary of the NPP for his visit and assured him of their continued support towards the progress of Ghana in terms of her developmental agenda and vibrant democracy.

They stressed that the partnership that has existed between the two countries has been one that has proved useful among them, and therefore looking forward to deepen their relationship for the benefit of both countries.

The meetings took place on the side-lines of the Conservative Party conference currently going on in Manchester, UK.
