Land management is not who collects or benefit monetarily from the sale of land Okyenhene but how land is managed relative growth and development of communities and the environmental impacts of land use. Land management is a complete failure in Ghana but more so under the stupid scheme of the decentralized urban and rural planning schemes.

Stool lands under chiefs remind me of the problem poor people face everywhere. A poor person is easily persuaded to sell off his/her soul for money irrespective of long-term damages to life and liberty. This is why the poor will sell homes and land for cash rather than lease/rent land or home. The same is true for chiefs and stool lands. Chiefs do not have the clout and the common sense God gave ants to demand from land developers that roads, telcom infrastructure, sewage, drainage and utilities infrastructure must be prepared prior to the sale of land and or homes by developers. Hence we have structures pop up haphazardly in communities without a care for zoning, street names, street and home addresses and or paved bituminous or concrete roadways. What these local government and the national government call development I call it throwing up a dice.

We cannot talk about rail systems in our urban and cities because government will need millions to buy homes and properties because of the unplanned and unmet nature of our development. That Okyehene is the bottom line of what greed and the lure or money does to poor saps.

The lands must be vested in the people and not chiefs. Akyem Abuakwa, for example, used the monies accruing to the people to educate mainly royals to the detriment of the larger society.

So you have to be an Ofori Atta or a Dankwa to matter. It was the free education policies of Nkrumah which changed history and enabled "donkorfo" to go to school and compete successfully in Ghana. So okyehene's call is misplaced. It is vitiated by and tainted with veiled malice.

The 1992 Constitution with its fundamental bogus "Indemnity Clause" which allows politicians and government officials to steal state funds with impunity must be under utmost immediacy amended. That clause should be invalidated to establish financial sanity as such would mitigate graft and corruption.

Government should take over land sales and then pay these corrupt chiefs royalties due them. That will reduce multiple sale of lands by our corrupt chiefs. One thing I wish our previous military government should have done was a abolishing chieftancy in the country because it is one of biggest impediment of the country's progress is chieftancy.

All lands should be vested in the government to prevent some chiefs from selling one piece of land to numerous people. Lands in the hands of chiefs undermine development. Chiefs could be paid royalties and that should be it.
