I really do not like to use the word democracy and its several purported meanings. Usually when our brain-washed academics and their hapless followers use the word democracy, what they mean is the observance and instructions of imperialist diktat. After 500 years of imperialist oppression, any discerning African should by now know that, their kind of democracy is not only false and bogus but it is also largely hypocritical and counter-productive - to put it mildly.
What I however know is that the weight and the values of 'democracy' – particularly the imperialist type, wilts and melts in the face of nationalist imperatives. This is true everywhere in the world. In fact the greatest violaters wrong-doers and iconoclasts of 'democracy' are those very imperialist countries who claim to be the global champions of the principles of democracy.
To say that coups are not needed today, merely exposes a terrible level of naivete of the affairs of the world. Coups will always happen when they are bound to happen or when the socio-economic conditions in a given country are manipulated by alien interests, to let it happen. And again, as we speak, it is those false self-acclaimed prophets of democracy who continue to engineer many coups and regime-changes in resource-rich countries all over the world.
I think it is the height of double-standards and the most crass form of shameless hypocrisy for people – especially the political parties who have benefited from the 1966 coup d'etat in Ghana as well as those who applaud it with all its attendant violations of human rights, to opine today that coups are not needed and that it was wrong for the interim government (in Bourkina Faso)to have banned members of the old regime from contesting elections in the country. Is this a Freudian slip of an apology for the banning of the CPP from contesting in elections after the 1966 coup?

Mr. Tarantula, thank you for your write up. Africans, particularly our intelligentsia should be honest to themselves to say that the Western democracy which we chose to swallow, hook, line and sinker, is not working for the African, at least, not for Ghana. We should not continue to be pretenders. This multiparty ism in Ghana is certainly not helpful. At best what this system of governance has succeeded in doing is to divide us instead of uniting us.
When the late General Kutu Acheampong came up with the idea of Union Government(UNIGOV) under which all Ghanaians would owe allegiance to their motherland Ghana, instead of parties, as is the case now, our very academics shot the idea down simply because Acheampong did not have letters beside his name. The academics as usual felt nothing good worth considering could come from somebody who had no University classmate; but what are we seeing today?
The multiparty ism as practiced in our dear country if not properly looked at the second time, is surely going to break up this nation.
Ghanaians have become so polarized along party lines such that even families, the very fabric of society, are breaking up, institutions of state supposed to be independent to safeguard the interest of all are now doing the bidding of parties their leaders choose to associate with as is the case in yesterday's brutalities the police meted to their compatriots on a harmless demonstration to seek the common good to ensure the country remains at peace with itself after the impending 2016 elections.
It is a high time we started to re-think about the proposal the late Acheampong brought up as, if for nothing at all, it would keep this country together as one entity.

military regimes in Ghana were some of the most corrupt period. I am not sure how long you have been around. In military regimes, the leaders steal and when you talk about it, you get a beating, thrown in jail, or disappear. Journalists arrested from left to right, sometimes radio stations are banned. Let no one deceive you. By the time the so called elections are held in Burkina, the coup plotters would have stolen so much-opportunists. There are way many better alternatives than a coup. A lot of the coup plotters in Ghana disappeared under AFRC and PNDC but I bet you the leaders of AFRC and PNDC were no exception to corruption. Stop kidding yourself. Do your research well and you will get a better picture brother.
