The gov't of Ghana is not serious. These second and tyres are tyres which cannot be used in another country but because of some people's pockets, the government will have to sit down unconcerned for innocent people to die.

Even if there are bad ones, there may be good once too. So buy the good ones.

Actually it is not the imported used tyres that is the problem but those that have been over used in the country that cause accidents.

There is no need to insult anyone. The government should reduce the duties on NEW tyres to 1% in order to encourage it's use.

If you put a new tyre under your truck and carry 15Mt load instead of 10Mt, guess what will happen. So please lets give chance to second hand car tyres. Even my own car has two second hand tyres in front and two new tyres at the back and I have used it for morethan eight months and still going strong.

you have to measure the depth of the tyres. anything under 2mm is extremely dangerous to use. can skid off the road at anytime...sudden brakes will slide the car..driving in rain is suicide mission. so dont drive until it bur ...

The importation of use tires should be regulated, only the good ones should be allowed into the country. On another note don't buy car if you can't afford good tires.

Apart fron high cost of fuel,how many car owners can afford buying brand new tyres in Ghana today if he relies solely on his meagre salary. As for you Garo, wait and get a car and you'll know how hot the ground is. After the ban on second- hand fridges, make a survey and know the number of people the government has "disenfranchised" of using a fridge. The government should always take workers salary into consideration before coming out with these "killer policies" I rest my case.

you dont have to drive until it burst before you know its bad. if the depth is 2mm or below, that tire is 85% used and has no grip on the road. any small rain will make it hard to drive, sharp curve will skid the car off the ...

People are dying because of bad roads, no road signs, very heavy Custom Duties on Vehicles and New Tyres etc. Why is the Ghana Government not producing new tyres for sale? The Govt interferes everywhere but can not see to NATIONAL INSURANCE CARDS TO BE ACCEOPTED IN HOSPITALS.
Reduce Custom Duties and new Tyres may be inported or build a factory and stop fully the inportation.

i am tyre trader and import 5-10mm tires into the country from uk and japan which is 100% better than brand new chines ones.

the problem in Ghana can not be wholly attributed to second tires, we should first check our MANHOLE roads, vehicle overloading which police seems unconcern.
i buy second tire in uk all the time for my car is upto the police to check the minimum tread and punish the offenders.
why not leave the buyers to dictate the market , because in all business enviroment the quality will determine the demand , and all those who import bad tires can not sell eventually.
Its very competitive business and buyers have a lot of choices
thousands of Ghanaians earn their living from this trade so we better think twice, instead of sabortaging the business in favour for INDIANS AND CHINES IMPORTERS

Ghanaian governments has never come up with their own ideas that match up with their life style and their economy. They do not manufacture cars but they impose heavy duties on imported used cars, they don't manufacture even a bicycle tire but they are willing to get rid of used tires in the country.
Do these governments even consider their thoughts, the state of the economy, the living standard of the people, etc. before coming up with their ridiculous agendas?
Oh! no, no because they are busy stealing for their own well being, leaving the very poor citizens who voted them to power to magically make things happen on their own. Go ahead Mr. & Mrs. government and ban all used cars and tires and see how high transportation will be rocketed because of this your reckless thinking. How will people then travel around the country when you can't even pay your workers. Of all the problems in the country the one close to your heart is used tires. With this your economy how many car owners can buy a new tire? and if they do how much will it cost the common trader who is travelling around the country to make ends meet?
