The only amicable settlement good for Okine and the church is for Okine to go to prison for at least fifteen years and the church paying a hefty compensation to this girl and her family.

Ghana is a civilized nation and under no circumstance should the country, for that matter, the courts, allow a barbaric act to be perpetuated by some stupid and irresponsible people to go on unpunished . The Church Elder who defiled the teenager is an animal and does not deserve to live amongst us. That stupid man is a child molester and should be referred to as such, and not as a Church Elder. I would like to ask the court not to look at any other factors such as him being an outstanding member of his community or any other reason(s)and use that as an excuse to give him a probation or short prison term. If the court ever does that, it would be viewed by law abiding citizens as a miscarriage of justice and subsequently, give people a reason not to respect the court system or give any credence to court decisions as fair and justified. Secondly. I think the teenage girl did suffer a tremendous pain, in particular, the pain she endured when she was penetrated in itself justifies a hefty compensation for her, even though, no amount of money will be enough to compensate her for the unbearable pain, and also, the shame and the stigma she will have to carry with her for the rest of her life make it more reasonable for the court to show their compassionate side and ask the so called Church Elder to pay a hefty amount of money (I mean huge amount) to the fifteen year old teenage girl as a compensation for her unbearable pain and suffering. Also, please, keep him away from society and let him languish in prison for a long term.

The church should know that, this is not a counselling issue where the church can get involve to bring peace or settle marital problems.
