24 hours strike is OK? In ALL the civilized countries doctors strike is not accepted and is met with immediate dismissal and revocation of license to practice. It is bush Ghana where such behavior is tolerated.

Go and see the quality healthcare delivered by others in civilized countries where no such allowances and freebies are given to any government worker.

That is why the Catholic hospital sacked 14 doctors yetsreday. I commend them for showing leadership. Just like President Reagan fired ALL US Air Traffic controllers who went on strike rather than negotiate and play politics with US national security. We are waiting for President Mahama to follow suit.

Holding people health hostage because of fuel and freebies is a criminal act. The doctors should be sued to account for any deaths resulting from their actions.

In the meantime the Mahama administration must hold they pay while on strike, and send them notification to vacate their bungalows. If he does so the doctors will return to work immediately.

Politicians are getting fat? Then enter politics and get fat some. The NPP strongman MP for Manhyia was my mate, he is a doctor at Komfo Anokye, now enjoying in parliament. Any doctor can do the same.

My very own brother got PhD in Engineering but he accepted a position at Bank of America because the pay was substantially higher than going to teach engineering courses at the university. or he should have organized strike because people with masters at some companies are enjoying more than PhDs? We are all free to decide for ourselves what path we want to take.

But if you are referring to illegal activities enriching some then you cannot compare, otherwise someone can say the cocaine dealer is enjoying so me the brain surgeon must receive 200 gallons per month. Is that the logic you are using? Twea.

70% of all Ghanaians do not have toilets and baths in their living places and must either go to public toilets or, do it at the beach, in gutters or in the open in full view of one and all.

In a country where 90% of the working population earn less than GHC400 a month and in many cases, less than GHC100 a month, govt functionaries with no pedigree gleefully ride around in freely fueled state-of-the-art 4X4 vehicles freely provided by the state.

Ghana is a country where the Chairman of the ruling Party is implicated in a conflict where several sophisticated arms and ammunition ostensibly meant to be used for terrorist activities, are discovered in his car by the police. Of course he also gets away with the offense without so much as a pat on his wrist.

Ghana is a country where a four-hour rainfall in the heart of the capital city can cause a flood which in turn triggers an explosion and a fire which kills over 150 poor souls. Two months later and after all the hue and cry that followed this tragedy, charred bodies are still being discovered only a few meters away from the scene of the explosion.

I can go on and on for a whole day enumerating failure after hopeless failure of a govt that does not seem to be able to make out its left from its right.

Can somebody ask that car-thief who has been wrongly imposed on us as a Health Minister, if he really, truly and honestly thinks that Ghana is a civilized country?

Can somebody also tell him or rather ask him what is so secret about the imaginary govt counter-proposals that he claims cannot be exposed to the public. If they think that they have the right to divulge the details of the doctors proposals to the public, why cant they do the same for their proposal - if indeed it exists at all?

What my mind cant reach is how could this country possibly have arrived at this incredibly pathetic point?

Is Mr. Mahama and his appointees not having conditions of service? Did Mr. Mahama increase his and his appointees salaries and back date it? It was right ja? What prevents the doctors from doing same?

As I said, the state institutions, like the NDC govt are now colossal failures hence are now irrelevant so no sensible person is prepared to deal with them.

Even if you live outside the country, u surely have relatives back at home so you are one way or the other affected by the strike action. Hence it is better to appeal to the parties to go to the negotiate table and sort things out

Tell the minister that in civilised societies, people of his type will never be ministers because we all know what he and Carl Wilson did at Tema port.

By the way, your post clearly shows that you are a paid NDC serial commentator. Whatever are the consequences of the doctors strike action should be seen as a direct consequence of the government's inaction in resolving the issues.

I am of the considered opinion that in civil societies an individual such as Alex Segbefia knowing what we know about him in matters concerning the origination, implementation and completion of dubious judgment debts such as has never happened before in his position as the Dep Chief of Staff, should not be anywhere close to any govt, let alone head any ministry and the health ministry at that. It is a serious lack of judgment and bastardization of leadership and the governance process because he wears the garb of one who lacks credibility. And it is not surprising that, the conditions of service document of the negotiations after it was handed to him, found its way in the public domain.
Having said that, the deaths of Ghanaians arising from this bungled conditions of service negotiations will surely be laid at the doorstep of Alex Segbefia's govt, which is the NDC, led by President John Dramani Mahama, why, because the doctors gave this govt and Alex Segbefia as the Min of Health one clear year to address these matters. Alex Segbefia in a civilized society ought to have acknowledged letters sent by the GMA in this regard, but since it is not a civilized society and it is an uncivilized govt, the letters were not even acknowledged and responded to, by Alex Segbefia as the Min of Health. So much for civility in our country and a character who wants to talk about civilized societies.
The earlier his govt solves this matter, the better it will be for his govt because, the political mileage and demagoguery they seek from matter is not there, has never been there and will never, ever be there. There is no way Ghanaians can be incited against the doctors in this country. Ghanaians are very sensible and know the worth of doctors who they have developed relationships with over the years because of our bad Healthcare system which sees patients trooping into our hospitals on a daily basis to see these same doctors over and over and over again and you know what, they are treated and they get well to contribute their quota in building and developing this nation. They understand and value the work of the doctors. They appreciate the services they render and it is not going to change.
Alex Segbefia and his bloodthirsty Mahama led NDC govt which has become synonymous with the death of Ghanaians and didn't even spare the life of the late President Atta Mills must ensure Ghanaians have their doctors in the consulting rooms much sooner than later because enough is enough. They wouldn't want to be at the receiving end of the anger of Ghanaians. Ghanaians need their doctors in the consulting rooms now.

Yes it is true that in civilised countries strikes don't last that long. In the UK they hardly last longer than 48hrs at a time. There a major reason why this is so. Striking workers are not paid by the employer. It is the union which should pay it's members if they can afford it. The unions are not able to do this easily beyond 2 days. They will go bankrupt if they go on long strikes. The solution is simple. Govt should pass legislation banning employers from paying striking workers and all the senseless strikes will become a thing of the past. Furthermore the law should compel all union members to be balloted before going on strike. Two - thirds majority should be the minimum to enable a strike to be declared. The government should have the courage to pass the legislation. Ghana needs no more labour unrest at a critical time like the one we are in now.

Is the issue of civilized doctors not striking beyond 24hrs or in civilized countries doctors don't strike beyond 24hrs? I am confused

In a civilized country, doctors and other health care workers have COS. INFACT because they understand the importance of health, they pay the healthcare worker more than the politicians. No wonder we have half the doctors trained in Ghana working in those civilized countries. This is really an upside down country where even the citizens can't demand their due from the government. They keep them in perpetual ignorance and lord it over them. Only in an uncivilized country would this happen
