Over d years all d "NOT DONE DUTIES & PROJECTS", ADD UP, WHICH LEAD TO D DOWNWARD MOVEMENT OF SOCIETY & COUNTRY.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT D LAW OF KARMA IS ALL ABOUT ...... YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.

NURSES WHO HAD NOT BEEN PAID FOR MONTHS, CONTINUE TO GO TO WORK FOR ALL THOSE MONTHS. HOW ARE THEY ABLE TO SURVIVE FOR OVER 11 MONTHS WHEN THEY ARE NOT PAID ?

MY SUSPICION IS THAT JUST LIKE THEIR COUNTERPARTS IN OTHER SECTORS OF D GOVT., THEY RELY ON BRIBES THEY EXTRACT FROM PATIENTS AT CLINICS AND HOSPITALS.

MAJORITY OF U GUYS CALL URSELVES CHRISTIANS & MUSLIMS. YOU ARE ALL HYPOCRITES !!!
YOU & PEOPLE IN GOVT. HAVE A STRANGLE HOLD ON D THROAT OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY.

Could you also remember that Rawlings used to incite TUC workers to strike against Liman's government in order to over throw it fraudulently? And could you remember that he used to take 'Kenkey' to Legon to demonstrate how the size had shrunk under Liman and we ended up in "Rawlings Chain" but nobody could talk? Could you further remember that Acheampong and Rawlings used the mild IMF conditions under Busia and Liman respectively as justifications for overthrowing their governments deceitfully? Could you still remember that PNDC reintroduced the IMF and World Bank into the economy with more stringent conditions after the coup without apologizing to Liman?

I don't know what the so-called leftists are talking about, and I don't believe NPP is behind the strikes either. As far as I know NPP is only highlighting the failings and excesses of the NDC government hopping to translate them into votes for the party in the next elections, and that is a genuine and legitimate politics since the failings are true and not false. Everybody in Ghana knows that cost of living under this government is unbearable and NPP is democratically presenting itself as an alternative and seizing the opportunity to convince the electorate not to vote for NDC in the next elections.

Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with an opposition highlighting the failings of an incapable government in order to wrest power from it democratically. NDC is responsible for the strikes because of the massive corruption, over spending, reckless borrowing and overall economic mismanagement that have characterized the regime and brought untold hardship on Ghanaians. Moreover, NDC could not frivolously spend $5bn of public money outside the budget in 2012 to buy the conscience of gullible voters, and expect everything to be normal in the subsequent years without any difficulties in our fragile economy. This is why Ghanaians are wallowing in hunger and being overtaxed.

The doctors are also using their right to strike to put pressure on the govt to cave in to their unreasonable and outlandish extortionist demands. Members of govt also have the right to apply whatever leverage they have to bring the doctors to their senses, and this threat of immediate evacuation from their bungalows is one!

Should they resign and still be occupying those houses? Those who resigned should not have more than a day to be kick out!

Years back, Kenya banned doctors on the public pay roll to run private clinics. Either go public or private. This was enforced amidst threats of mass resignation. Most swallowed those threats and remained at post.
In Ghana, practically all the doctors are working in private hospitals and clinics if not owning same. They are making loads of money from those practices and they still want to raid the national coffers?

Staying in a Govt bungalow for free for about 30 years should enable you put up your own house after retiring. The old Gen is very right. Saying it as it should, and which many Ghanaians fear to do. No one should compare himself to elected politicians, as there is no job security in their work. After every election, a lot of them become jobless.

There are serious implications for a doctor who will resign from state server under this condition.When such doctor is going for employment elsewhere he has to rely on the state for a recommendation, which the state will give or just refuse to give. When such doctor want employment by the state again the state can here employ him as a house officer. It means that the salary and other benefits of the doctor will be reduced, including his retirement benefits.
There is also an universal law that a person does not stand in thorns and pick thorns. Thus if the doctors do not return to work before any agreement is concluded a citizen of this country can go to court and have the whole agreement annulled. Being on strike or lock-out whiles negotiations go on is like one party holding a gun on the head of the other.
In 1996 the workers of Bilfinger and Berger, then engaged on the construction of some roads in Accra embarked on strike, which turned violent. The police intervened and int the process three workers were shot in the leg.
The workers dragged out the General Secretary of their union, forced the managing director into his office and forced him to sign what they term conditions of service. I covered that strike and when I entered the Managing Director's office on that day the said collective agreement was just signed. I told the parties that what was done wall null and void, and to no effect. A date and time was set up, the workers return to work, we then sat down and concluded negotiations.
I heard Mr. Ustin Gamey stating this morning that medical officer employed by the Ministry of Health do not have conditions of service, but have and appointment letter. Whiles I was in the Civil Service there were conditions of service for every employee of the service, starting from the labourer who at the bottom up to 24 or 26 for directors and others. Engineers, Medical Officers, Accountants, Legal Officer, and you name it all have conditions of employment under that civil service document. I got to know the other time that the schedule has been reduced to 14. I was engaged as a Labour Office, category A officer, who is not entitled to overtime as spelt in the Civil Service Conditions of service. That category of employee have a salary scale, annual, increment, leave, free medical care up to a certain level because medical bills were paid by the state. There is out of station allowance, accommodation whiles out of station or on transfer, there was housing allowance, car allowance and all that is what is a condition of service in any organization.
Negotiations of conditions of service, employment and none employment are meant to vary conditions of service, and in some instances the parties agree to remove some benefits from them.
Other workers in the health sector as well as medical officers are engaged under the civil service conditions of service, thus, let us not peddle falsehood.

But if a school of though suggested they can resign but hand over their bungalows, it is not good enough to say that out of anger. The demand for them as any other professionals in the developed world necessitate they are accorded the diligence. Otherwise the ordinary person will suffer. If that then where is the human rights we are talking about. The doctors must also know that their actions can criminalised them but we are not saying that now. I am very sad you of all will say such a thing. The question we need to ask ourselves is why did the president say dead goat doesn't fear knife, when and where did he say that. Secondly do the doctors concerns true that is their right to demand such things? If so why shouldn't he sit down and do what is right for them? I don't think we should sympathise with the government that there is economic hardship so workers and doctors should keep quite on their rights.,do you know Mr mensah that the government ordered school shoes for school children while doctors salaries were not paid? A national airplane was going to be bought had it not the intervention of world bank who refused to support the purchase?

The only way for a dead goat to fear knife is to cut its head off and that is what the government want to see hence workers been hard on the government to do the right thing this time.

Compare the average teacher for example to his counterpart around the globe? Also, take a look at how much money has fallen between the gaps, pitch in the resources that we have including oil. If we have any one to blame for this crisis, it is this government. The people that have died as a result of this strike must not die in vain, it must be a wake up call for politicians to find ways to stop corruption and spend our money to improve health care, education and security. I just want to say that asking the Drs to resign and hand over their keys is not the way to go. Foreign doctors will not come to Ghana for the love of the country or medicine. They will come if they are unemployed or uncertified. The bottom line is they will only come if they are well paid, which would be no problem for the Ghana government. They will rather pay a foreign doctor at least 5 times the money they pay our own and give them all the pecks and then some. Nobody knows what they paid Cuban doctor but I bet every pesewa, they paid them more than our locals, they don't work for free. Is that what we want? We have no respect for our own. Govt should sit down and reason with these doctors. One cannot compare Doctors to farmers or fishermen. They are self employed, they don't negotiate their wages. They get their money when they sell their goods. Drs have to wait for months before they get paid. 1 for 3. Try getting foreign doctors for the money you pay Ghanaian doctors. You will get no one, not even an intern to come to this country to work.

So you think the doctors will make a killing if they worked overseas.Well, let me tell you. Doctors here don't get house, fuel, clothing etc,etc allowances in the U.S. They get paid and that's it. And housing is very expensive.Average mortgage is at least$1500-$2500 or more a month.Workers demand too much allowance in Ghana. Nurses don't get allowance in the U.S. We rent or buy our own houses. So these Doctors need to get off their high horses and go back to work as they took an oath to be life savers. Yes you make make good money in the U.S but most of it go to everyday necessities like what these selfish doctors are demanding. Thank God there were working Doctors at 37 Military hospital to save a striking doctor's life. I hope she gets a new outlook on her actions of going on strike.

Not this time and not on this issue.You are dopting a military method to solve a critical matter that bodes on life, nationhood and your own citizens. Doctors are a very essential group of people in a country. they are also humans and will listen to anybody with wisdom and integrity. Talk to them but not when you are receiving your benefits and they are not. Listen to their grievances and put your wisdom on the table. The length of the crisis is due to lack of justice and wisdom. It appears my dear motherland has lost its power of negotiations and respect for wisdom. the threat of bringing in Romanaians and Cubans will not solve the problem as they did not in the past. My sympathies for all the patients and relatives of the patients, the sick and the dying. There is much more wisdom required in this impass from both parties but not Nunoo Mensah's suggestions and utterances.

Gen Nunoo Mensah should not be proud of his advice to the President of the GMA. The young man was taken aback because he was not expecting that hog-wash of thinking from a person so respected. Military guys stay in barracks till retirement. hence his comment about keys to bungalows. The solution lies in the meeting of cool heads. It is my suggestion that the GMA announce a detailed plan of Action and deadlines to achieve certain objectives. It may stretch over a year of few years. The strike should be a start work when an objective is achieved and look forward to theachievement of next objective. It may not be possible to achieve all the objectives at one sitting though it is the ideal. Comparing what personnel in the presidency, military personnel and parliamentarians are gaining, the doctors are not over demanding. Government Budget placed emphasis and priorities, wrongly.Government must cut down costs and pay to those who make the country safer and healthier (the doctors, teachers, nurses and policemen)
