Sad MPs started the strike to fight for their allowances and backpays. Then the attorney general people. We also saw the Junior Docs strike for their due. So, in Ghana now, we live in a culture of strikes before government listens.
People have come to distrust gov't when it comes to negotiations. It is pretty annoying if we see all these many presidential staffers, ministers and their deputies, DCEs and MPS with their fat allowances and ESBs while those really doing real work get nothing. Can anybody tell us here what are the conditions of service for teachers and nurses as well as their ESBs? How many MPs, presidential staffers will continue to work for 22 months without salary? We now see that the playing field is not much levelled. That is why we have everybody now striking or attempting to go on strike. Sad Docs are on strike but can we really blame them?

Prez should set example by cutting the allowances of his staffers, appointees and MPs. Then, the Docs and others will see the playing field as levelled. He should also pay teachers nurses and other workers who have worked for months and years without salaries. Then, workers will not threaten government with strikes. Until then, people will always ask for more by comparing what they get to that of politicians.

The culture where all the land and its gold belongs to one man and the people are his slaves. Nonsense! The old order have to change and give place to new. With this old tradition, you employ some one to manage the affairs of the country and he becomes like a king, asking the rest of the people not to ask questions, no accountability etc. He starts to distribute the national cake to his family and friends etc. neglecting important sectors such as health care, education and security. Strikes are better than war, some times it takes war, not strikes to put pressure on our gov. to spend our money in areas that can promote growth in the country.

The culture you talk about, members of CCG, is brought on by people who come to your respective houses of worship, listen to the hypocritical speeches given, pay for their "collection" contributions with unclean money and go out each week acting on the very political sermons they hear.
In a society where leaders of our churches, with more titles to choke a cow, shamelessly engage in politics of the tribal kind while dressed up in church attire, we should expect the chaos we've derived and arrived. Government cannot be held hostage by a nation where in each household cheating on taxes, cheating on utility bills, throwing trash where they do not belong and ignoring civic responsibilities is routine and normalized. I see not failure of government but a failure of religion and religious organizations that once captivated the souls of my generation to do good at all times. A new generation that worships money earned by foul means and parents who defend family members charged by society for evil or deviant acts is a society that came about not by government but through churches that gave a darn about saving lost souls and more about political preferences. Shame on the people who would use God's name and places of worship to cultivate hatred for and on behalf of preferred political parties and or tribe.

The culture of strikes and disrespect for authority and the elderly can be traced to the AFRC and PNDC eras when the leaders of the putsch came up with "power to the people" mantra and started off by dissociating the elderly and Chiefs from mainstream governance to the extent that messangers in offices and workplaces constituted themselves to Management Board members giving orders and instructions to their former bosses and directors and calling all these leaders nation-wreckers and thieves.
Some of these young ones then shouting "let the blood flow" are the very persons who have grown up and have taken up the mantle of leadership of our dear country today.
Paradoxically, however, these same people have become more corrupt than the people the accused then and in many cases had to send to their early graves either by torturing them physically and mentally or outright firing.tied to the stakes.
If we really want to reverse or curb this canker, the Christian Council should brace themselves up to the task of revolutionizing the mindset of the citizenry. This, one might say is an arduous task and therefore cannot be handled by the Christian Council alone. They have to reach out to our Muslim brothers, traditionalists and Chiefs all to be guided by renowned Sociologists, Anthropologists,Psychologists using well thought-out tools of education
