  We must ban importation of meat &chicken products to enable local production to thrive.Also there must be more education to alley or negate consumers fear of using the chicken products .There should be more assurance from government to public and visitors to the country that Ghana is safe in terms of its poultry products in order not to turn visitors and tourists away.

  Dear Ato, it doesn't matter where the meat comes from because avian is spread across boarders by bird immigration. It doesn't have anything to do with imported chickens. It is very easy to learn about how avian is spread on the www. So please educate yourself before blaming imported poultry. On one point that I agree with you is that we should do more to produce our food locally.

  SHAME ON THE PART OF ALL THE VETINARY SERVICES IN ALL REGIONS OF GHANA AND THE MINISTRY OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE, FOR DECLARING A NATIONWIDE OUTBREAK OF BIRD FLUID WITHOUT GOING ROUND THE WHOLE COUNTRY TO CHECK ON POULTRY FARMS BEFORE MAKING THIS DECLARATION TO THE PUBLIC. THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE MADE THIS PUBLIC BECAUSE THEY'VE NOT CHECKED OTHER REGIONS OF GHANA, NORTHERN,UPPER EAST, WEST AND BRONG AHAFO THE HIGHEST PRODUCERS OF POULTRY PRODUCTS(MEAT AND. EGGS). I ASK ARE THEY DOING THIS JUST TO EXPECT FUNDS FROM DONA NATIONS OR TO SAVE THE LIVES OF GHANAIANS IN ALL REGIONS OF GHANA?. AM IN THE NORTH AND NO ONE HAS VISITED MY FARMS TO CROSSCHECK ANY SIGN OF THE VIRUS YET MY COLLEAGUES POULTRY FARMERS AND I STILL PRODUCE AND SELL EGGS TO PEOPLE. They requested some 30 or so new vehicles to help the officers fight the spread of the deadly virus to human. I think, the request was turned down by the government as being outrageous.
  So, the Agric Ministry is doing what it can to contain the spread of the deadly avian influenza. What a country we come from!

  Awareness creation of Avian Influenza is in progress, especially in my district by Vet. personnel. Adequate resources are however needed to enhance activities.
