The judge is not a medical officer to know if somebody has a mental problem so why should he send him to a mental hospital if he is not a medical officer to know he is mentally ill since there is nothing in their book that says anytime somebody comes to court behaving like a comedian he should send him to mental hospital,let us put what we believe aside and follow the logic here to answer this question.

It is known all over the world that whenever somebody attempts suicide that individual is taken to a hospital and in the hospital before that person gets released psychiatrist or somebody with liicense in that field will have to examined him to know if that individual is mentally ill but in Ghana we don't do that,rather we charge the person for a crime,so the question is why are we very much concern or expect the judge to send him to a mental check up when we say the judge is not a medical officer?

In that profession you cannot say somebody is mentally ill if you are not a medical expert in that field as some of you are doing saying he is mentally ill,you can only suspect but you cannot judge,you cannot even say somebody is sick of fever when you have not examined the person,it is ethical issue that is eluding us.

Why we don't fight for the others,is it because we are happy this one wants to take the life of somebody we don't like that we want to protect him making him special,can we launch a crusade to get all others we suspect to be mentally ill out of jail?

I ask again,why did the judge not allow further investigations as requested by the police? Why the indecent haste to scuttle the investigations? Does the judge know something about the case? Whenever somebody attempts suicide in Ghana they say that is a crime but all over the civilized world such people are taken to the hospital for medical evaluation but over the years these idiots didn't see anything wrong with that but when this guy who came to court to feign mental illness is jailed these useless organizations which were dead in the past now resurrected to fight for him because he wanted to kill the president to make them happy,they have no sympathy for the intended target of this guy who went to church to see where the president usually sits and went to get a gun going to church three good times looking for the president before he was caught.

What record do they have to prove he is mentally ill apart from what they claim was a treatment of a fetish priest,do we use treatment of fetish priests as evidence in court?

It is understood that the man was not convicted for attempt on the President's life; rather he was convicted summarily for weapons possession under the Weapons Act. Unlike an indictment offence, a summary conviction offence (also called summary offence) doesn't require a standard trial, with representation. The question to ask is whether sanity is or must be a factor for consideration in a summary judgement, and whether the 10 years conviction is within the maximum jail time prescribed by the law.

[Don't listen to anybody who says that a summary conviction doesn't apply in a criminal case; it does in less severe crimes such as weapons possession]

Anything or any aspect of human endeavour that deals with thinking and behaviour is a social science. Pedagogy another branch of psychology is used to teach people and not medical officers. If the confusion in the minds of these group of people is true, then schools should have been closed down and all pupil and students send to the hospital.

STRANGELY, NOT EVEN THE CHIEF JUSTICE HAS CONDEMNED THE JUDGE'S BLATANT MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE BECUASE THE SENTENCE FAVOURS HER AND HER CHURCH RATHER THAN THE CONSTITUTION OF GHANA AND THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS OF THE POOR GUY.

HIS MOTIVE FOR ENTERING THE CHURCH BUILDING WITH A FIREARM SHOULD BE DISREGARDED BECAUSE HE TALKED ABOUT AN ATTEMPT ON MAHAMA TO TAKE OVER THE PRESIDENCY OF GHANA.

Many murder prisoners are lindushing in Ghanaian jails who never had their mental status examined. Why this particular can? It is very Paramount he should have been provived legal assistance, it is seems their is some political interest in this case.
I hope the those crying out loud on this case would also help others in jails to have their cases reviewed. Assaination attempt on any president in the world is a serious matter and must be treated as such.

Our understanding of mental illness is only if the person strips naked and become dirty, not able to keep his hygiene etc. In some mental cases, the person hears voices and become helpless, they can only do what the voice tell them. Some have killed their own children, mother, father, friend and strangers. Many have jumped into rivers killing themselves. Remember the co-pilot who nose dived the plane killing all the passengers and crew? The doctors told him not to work but he refused to tell his employers for fear of loosing his job and continued working normally till disaster struck. That is why every human being is given this right that must not be violated, it does not mean he must be freed.
