What he is dishonest about and not saying is that Ghana's economic indiscipline and decline is the brainchild of all governments since independence.A stronger Cedi in itself is not a panacea like he want us to believe.What is important and transparent though, if we deploy efficiency in goods and services ,we will become a cheaper and efficient exporter ,attract more tourism,spur economic growth and expansion. That will be the single most potent way to address Ghana's mess.A stronger Cedi is only a catalyst to import more for consumption at home.

Nobody is paying heed to Mr. So-called Economic and Financial Guru, Bawumia any longer, except the fool-soldiers of the NPP party across the spectrum. Both the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) together with the Government of Ghana have come out and made it clear to the populace about the few reasons why the Cedi can't hold its own and depreciating rapidly against some bags of major currencies across board. To the discerning Joe Publics out there, the story is very simple, thus, one does not go knocking a few zero off a weak currency likes ours to match that of the Dollar or the other major currencies and expect it to perform the same.

So, if we want to go for broke versus the Almighty Dollar, then we should grow what we eat, manufacture what we use and wear as well as managed to import some, bring to an end our cap in hand attitude toward these same majors we are striving hard to compete with, that fellows, would bring some amount of glory to the Cedi as well as recognition, but not knocking down some zero to par with the Dollar and go ahead to proud our moola with the Benjamin Franklin's greens. It simply do not work that way, people.

Whether the rate is declining faster than the era of Kufuor's administration or not, the bottom line is that it's bound to depreciate due to the fundamentals by which the Cedi is based on. What's the purpose of knocking some zeros off the Cedi with the aim of reducing the amounts of notes one transports to and fro without appropriate instruments in place to support and sustain that mode. The Cedi started gaining a zero or two before Kufuor even signed off his administration courtesy of the constitution.

Now, if yours above is the sole important reason as to why Kufuor-led administration did what they did, then, why don't I advise my NDC government to do exactly the same and all would possibly be well with the Cedi once again, huh? Thence, we don't have to do much at all, just knock some few zeros off and fanfare ourselves stupid with hosanna chorus for some wonderful and unprecedented achievement like Bawumia is busily trumpeting in here.

When Dr. Bawumia was a dep govner, there was still coruption so he must give us a break. Electing NDC or NPP into power is like electing hyenas to take care of goats and when the goats are consume then we start crying faul. The bottom line is every Ghanain must just ask him or herself, 'What can I do for my country?' Instead of waiting for a politician to come give them jobs. No individual was born into this world to depend on government for his or her success. Imagine someone completing university only to join an association called Unemployment graduate association? What a life? That alone is a big coruption. Anyway, I will be having a success seminar with some Ghananian youth to teach them how to make progress in life even when everybody is complaining. In Europe the banks were lending to high risk debtors who defaulted, in Ghana too we are borrowing too much and importing far too much. We export raw wood but import furniture whilst we have good furniture manufacturers who export. We also draw cash and distribute it to party members to vote for us. All that contributes to the economic downturn.

Based on that one can compare with the current rate using a base rate. For the fact that the knocked off some zeros and made the Ghana cedia equivalent to dollar at that time meant in real terms it was so. Note that Japan is 3rd largest economy in the world and South Korea too is probably the 3rd largest economy in Asia. These countries even produce almost everything the need and export hi-tech goods.
But about ¥100 =$1 and ?1000 =$1.

Is the good pink sheet professor also saying remittances are bad. He should read World Bank reports on remittances.
Without which a lot of countries will be failed states likes Somalia.
Remittances in some developing countries are worth more than exports or next to highest export earner.
Phillipines is a fantastic example of how successful a well planned remittances regime provides wealth to a nation.
It is not clear therefore is Ghanaians will see as a propagandist, Dr Bawumia or the NDC.
It is therefore not right to debase remittances abroad and pretend you are jabbing the NDC.

You don't knock off zero and just put your currency at par with the dollar. why don't strong economies like China and Japan peck at their currencies at par with the dollar? The doc just knocks the zeros and says "cedi, you are now at par with the American dollar".
Secondly, see how the NPPists are lauding him. In which village did the NDC say what the doc is claiming? NPPists in London shouldhave understood that it is not good to remit under the current situation. Failing to benedit from trmittances is the problem of all govts. The Phillipines for example is the best example of a country with a good policy to benefit rom its citizens abroad.

Bawumia should have been nominated as the NPP's presidential candidate. He has a better grasp of the issues facing Ghana more Akufo-Addo does. Bawumia is out there doing the heavy lifting for the NPP, while the party's leading candidate is no where in sight. Case in point, he was the one who defended the party at the supreme court hearings and not Akuffo-Addo. It is a shame that, but for tribal politics, he should have been the NPP's presidential candidate. In my opinion, he is in the wrong party, because he will never be their leader.

Why are we crying, is it because economists say wants are insatiable? In 1970/80s, half of elementary pupils never had the chance to high school, half of GCE O-Level students couldn't make it to 6th-Form, and only a quarter of GCE A-Level students made it to tertiary institutions. Why, because there were not enough places. From secondary to university, students were using lanterns, and only a third of Ghana had electricity. Ghana was an agricultural economy and we ate what we grew. Today, everyone wanted to live a European style, rural-urban migration growing compared to any middle income economy. And Ghanaians cry over everything. I am wondering how Greeks are fairing, a country that is noted for western civilization but now almost bankrupt. One thing our politicians should know is that, US Republicans don't come to Europe or go to Asia to tell them how America economy is poorly managed. The same thing that opposition parties in Europe don't go to tell Americans how Europe is managed. So, don't travel to Europe to blackmail your country because you don't hold HEAVEN'S KEY. President John Dramani Mahama is doing what Napoleon couldn't do.

This is the reason why in the dry season the level of Water goes down cause no rain. This is fundamental geography. I think Bawumia need some basic geography.

The attempts to strengthen the cedi exchange rate by throwing US Dollars into the market week after week is like King Canute trying to stop the tide. With a disastrous low cocoa harvest in 2015 of only 650,000 - 700,000 tonnes, lower oil prices,high producer price inflation of 23% per year, no electricity for industry to operate and strikes by nearly every public sector, despite huge Single-Spine wage hikes (which broke the bank), how can the cedi appreciate ? Using Ghana's reserves to try to lift the value is simply not sustainable. A short-term lift is then followed by the inevitable decline again. This is a prime "short" situation - bet against the cedi and you will be a winner, as the economy is in serious decline and this is visible to every man in the street.
