  There should be a concerted effort to assist farmers to export their crop yields. The government should discourage technical officers from demanding payment for providing services to farmers. The rules and procedures for obtaining permits should be refined to make it easier to start a business. The way it stands currently, an entrepreneur has to pay their way to even begin to implement their business strategies. These obstacles simply create inefficiencies in efforts to revive the economy. I was in the lands department office when a local woman came in to obtain titles to land she had purchased. Right in front of me, the head of the district department office insisted on receiving payment before appending his signature. If the government wants to assist the private sector, it only needs to look at the behavior of its own employees as a start. To encourage production and consumption of local produce, it is time the government adhered to basic economic principles and induce local demand. Stop subsidizing foreign imports and impose a duty on such imports. The Ghanaian palate has been hoodwinked into preference for foreign goods, while the crooked ministers have perverted the system to benefit themselves. Why should an agricultural country subsidize food imports when such foods can be grown locally at a competitive advantage? What are we thinking as a nation of people?
