Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with an opposition highlighting the failings of an incapable government in order to wrest power from it democratically. NDC is the cause of the strikes because of the massive corruption, over spending, reckless borrowing and overall economic mismanagement that have brought untold hardship on Ghanaians. Moreover, NDC could not frivolously spend $5bn of public money outside the budget in 2012 to buy the conscience of gullible voters and expect that everything would be normal in the subsequent years without any difficulties in our economy.

The npp are a lazy opposition whilst the ndc would oppose anything coming from the opposition. Maybe monthly review of budget against actual expenditure by PAC and reporting back to parliament to take action where needed would be better than parliament creating it's own budget. Reviewing the budget and asking for changes to be made before approval is a better option.

If Ghana fails to enforce it laws, corruption will continue to sky rocketing. Ghana's parliament is weak, the presidency is indiscipline and the enforcement agencies are all corrupt. Unless the enforcement agencies do their work, Ghana will continue to sink.

J. Rawlings do the same thing to Voltarians when he was in power for twenty years? What about Atta Mills. The good old Prof was in power for three and a half years yet he was not selfish to only concentrate on his people in Ekumfi Etuam and the central Region but rather his whole thought was for the general good. No wonder under the care of Prez Mills, Ghana achieved a growth rate of 11%, single digit inflation and the smooth implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy where newly recruited police personnel received the nominal equivalence of 500dollars as monthly salary. Compare these achievements to the nepotism and selfish policies of the Mahama government that has crippled the Ghanaian economy. If they could do that it would have been great and could be called to empower the parliamentarians in question. Sarfo you should not expect them to be able to do that since they come from different professional and educational background that have nothing to do with national budget. What most people know is dollar-cedi exchange rate, increase in the petrol price and transport and it effect on commodity prices. During your term of office as a minister what did you do to resolve the problem? It worked to your advantage because few MPs could questioned you after your budget speech. So why now? All because of bogus education heavily dependent on ancestral notes and not on research publications.

As you are aware ,there is strict Separation of Powers with Efficient Comgressional Oversight in all matters of Appropriations in the US system whereas the the Ghanaian system lack complete Checks and Balances due to the Superimposition of Functions. Just ask yourself ! If a Senior Ghanaian MP also holds an Executive Cabinet post, where will the Oversight come from??

In Ghana,a Minister of Finance is supposed to present his Budget to Parliament.That was the practice since independence to when Osafo Maafo was the Finance Minister, to this day.And if Parliament was/is not equipped(expertised)to Scrutinized it to whatever,whose fault is it?.The question is:who "teared in pieces to analyse and compared"the Budget presented by Hon Osafo Maafo to that of Parliament's,then?.Again,was Osafo Maafo so powerful,then?.
Improvements in our system should be encouraged.but knowing our nature as he rightly saidb,criticism should not be misdirected as an attack on the Current Finance Minister for clueless backbiters and lobbyists to take advantage to accuse the Finance Minister(Mr Terkper) unnecessarily. Accusations,if any,in this regard should be solely at the door steps of Parliament, for lacks of its own version of Budget to compare. Therefore, Concerns raised by Hon Osafo Maafo is worthy of note for innovations or to improve the systems in my personal opinion.

Instead of casting stones laced with falsehoods at the current Finance Minister, Mr. Know-it-all Osafo Maafo needs to explain why, under his term as Finance Minister, he tried to enter into some bogus financial deal in Germany on behalf of Ghana. When his NPP trickery was exposed, Maafo quickly lied that the contract papers were in German and that he understands no German. Apparently, the Ghanaian Embassy in German was stacked with folks who understood no German, if one is to believe Osafo-Maafo. Then there was the other NPP attempt with Osafo-Maafo as Finance Minister to borrow money from a foreign outfit that turned out to be a storefront with no credible business credentials.
